Make Up For Ever M103 & M104 Artist Rouge Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
M103
Make Up For Ever M103 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied beautifully to the lips with smooth, even coverage that had that more matte finish but did not appear flat or chalky on the lips. I felt like the formula was creamier than past mattes–more like a hybrid between the Cream and Matte formulas (see my original overview). It glided on easily but adhered for solid, five-hour wear. The formula felt non-drying while worn.

Formula Overview
$22.00/0.12 oz. - $183.33 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be long-wearing, “extremely pigmented,” and hydrating. It is available in two finishes–Cream and Matte, indicated by the C or M in the beginning of each shade’s name. The Cream formula is richly pigmented, lightly creamy without being too emollient or slippery, and go on smoothly and feel good while worn (wear ranges from four to eight hours, depending on the shade).
The Matte formula is thinner and clings somewhat to lips, though it goes on nicely and doesn’t tug, and it doesn’t always look flattering on as it can emphasize imperfections on my lips but really depends on the shade, as some look great on. I found the Cream formula to be moderately hydrating, while the Matte formula was slightly to moderately drying. All shades had a slight, rosy scent to them, though I didn’t notice any taste.

M104
Make Up For Ever M104 Artist Rouge Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep, brownish burgundy with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It did not appear matte–there was a definite sheen going on–and took two hours before the shine worn down to something more matte. The texture of the lipstick was lightweight, smooth, and creamy enough to glide on without tugging but did not feel slippery. It had good color coverage, though it was not fully opaque in one layer. This shade stayed on well for five and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. There was slight color that gathered in my lip lines over time.

The lighter one is so gorgeous on you Christine!
Thank you, Chris!
I have Rhubarb so I’m set for 103. I think 104 is too warm to even try. I don’t have Nori either for that reason.
Glad you have Rhubarb instead!
I am so so in love with this formula and am excited to see more colours! I hope they have more everyday nudes in the range at some point.
I was surprised they added more!
I have dupes, but I still like these colors!
Yay! 🙂
But of course I have fallen headlong for M103. These types of shades have a funny way of grabbing me every time, which is why I’ve got a few dupes of it from the list already. MAC Cosmo being a real favorite of mine! Nyx Euro Trash is a beauty, too.
Haha! They tend to catch my eye, too.
M103 looks like a perfect MLBB for me and I do not know how I have managed to not own anything in this formula. I always get so distracted by LEs that I forget about the permanent things I have been meaning to try!
It just might be a great MLBB!
M104 is such a divine shade, I love the finish too.
It is a nice one!
103 is an outstanding color — I’ve long coveted BB Pepper, but wasn’t keen on the glossier finish. This really has my attention.
I just love the sharp edge of that lipstick. Something about that teardrop shape, with the sharp edge, just totally does it for me.
