Fierce Flamingo (208)

Make Up For Ever Fierce Flamingo (208) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cool, bluish undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that didn’t build up much beyond that.

The texture felt smooth, lightweight, and more velvety with only light slip. The color applied fairly evenly but had a touch of streaking along the outer edges of my lips–more visible in the photo than in person–along with a tendency to gather around any natural texture on my lips. It wore decently for five hours and felt non-drying.

Formula Overview

$23.00/0.11 oz. - $209.09 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to "blur, smooth, and hydrate" with "intensity of a matte and the comfort of a cream" and delivers "ultra-pigment[ation]." The consistency reminded me of the more new-school "matte" formulas that feel velvety without wetness/shine--the ones that feel more silicone-heavy and primer-like, which are often thinner, too. I'd say that the new Rouge Artist formula has a little more traditional creaminess, so there was a satin shine (which was as marketed--satin finish!).

The consistency was smooth, lightweight, and thin without feeling clingy. In the close-up photos, there were several shades that looked like there were little bits scattered on my lips, almost like it had pilled, though I didn't feel it when I pressed my lips together and couldn't see it in person.

They had mostly opaque to opaque color coverage in a single layer. Most shades applied evenly and sat well enough on my lips, though there were some that emphasized my lip lines slightly. They wore for four to six hours on me with some of the very rich, deeper shades lasting a little longer than that. The formula felt mostly non-drying to lightly hydrating to me.

There was a sweet, slightly floral scent that was noticeable on for the first few minutes, but I didn't notice any taste.

Juicy Grape (210)

Make Up For Ever Juicy Grape (210) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, medium berry with cooler undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips. The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and comfortable to apply with more of a hybrid, velvet-cream feel. It stayed on nicely for five and a half hours and felt lightly moisturizing over time.

Daring Mulberry (218)

Make Up For Ever Daring Mulberry (218) Rouge Artist Lipstick (2020) ($23.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a deep, slightly muted, berry with cooler undertones and a satin sheen. It had medium pigmentation that did not build up to much higher coverage as the shade had more slip than others, so the color just seemed to get pushed around rather than added up.

It could have applied a little more evenly, though it didn’t settle in my lip lines too noticeably. This shade lasted for four and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Dear MUFE: I thought we had asked you before…..if it’s not broken, don’t fix it. This brand, even more than UD reminds me of Venice and Vienna. Bygone glory. Actually, it’s pretty sad.
