Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries:
[Writing this a week early… not sure yet.]
Weekend plans:
Hanging out with hubby and Winnie, probably see my parents. The usual!
What was the last TV show you binged?
We watched Love is Blind, Season 2! It ended up being a lot better than I expected; definitely a fun, enjoyable time. The reunion was particularly well-done as far as reunion shows go, too, which was nice to see.

Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Wet n Wild Mega-Last High Shine lipstick in Strawberry Lingerie
Weekend plans: There’s an air show in town this weekend. We will prolly go at least once. It’s also my husband’s birthday tomorrow. He’s been swamped with work so I don’t even know what he wants to eat yet!
What was the last TV show you binged?: I’m finishing up Ugly Betty rn! My husband and I are watching The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel but I’d say we’re watching it at a leisurely pace lol
Happy Birthday to your husband Joyce and I hope you get to go to the Air Show. I am sure your kids will love it too.
Might get the Clarins serum at U today. It’s really frustrating to have all your m/u packed…since before the holidays. This blog makes me want to play. Binging Sanditon. As with most UK/ BBC shows, the production values are impeccable. IMO, the acting not up to that standard. Mixed feelings about having a Jane Austen ‘completer’ deal with more contemporary issues. The issues are very real and deserve their own series, though maybe not as an overlay to a regency period drama. The outspoken young thing, the salacious brother/sister relationship, and slavery/ wealthy West Indian heiress (the actress for Georgianna Lambe is the best so far, and she’s US, not Brit Rep.)…..Those plot lines seem a bit anachronistic or contrived, popped in there to make a regency drama more relatable. Plus, Shonda is on for season 2 of regency drama, replete with Mama Pat tie-ins. Maybe regency is overdone at present. For S&G, binged Fairfax. Pretty funny parody, though it would offend some.
I guess it’s time to unpack your makeup kjh – the bag is calling you! My sister is a big fan of the Jane Austen series, although I don’t know if she has watched the one you are talking about here. It’s very sad and disappointing when the acting is not up to scratch and modern day issues are thrown into the mix.
The Clarins serum is absolutely lovely – I purchased it one (when on sale and that is such a rare phenonmen here) and it was so soothing on my skin.
I find the Inkey list HA Serum to be pretty good, as a much less expensive product.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: I have received my Chanel Rêve de Camélia Illuminating Powder. On my skin (face and swatched on my arm), it does not add any color, just a natural glow from within. And it gives such a beautiful luminosity when applied on bare eyelids or on top of the eyeshadow primer from Rare Beauty. Love it!
Weekend plans: Some cooking and plenty of rest.
What was the last TV show you binged? Not a TV show per se: Netflix docuseries Midnight Asia.
Hi Nicole, do you know if the Chanel comes in different shades or is there just the one? I have been hunting on line and only see the one they are labeling, “beige”. I am very fair skinned, like really white, and always worry about things that I just want a glow from, actually darkening my skin and making my face look darker than the rest of my body! I know that you are fair skinned and say that it doesn’t add any color to your skin tone but videos that I have looked at all look like it is adding color. Maybe I am seeing the wrong product but it is listed as the same name. Anyway, would love to know if you think there is more than one shade. Thank you so much.
Hi Deborah, this 2022 Chanel release comes in one color listed as “beige rosé”. I am fair skinned with neutral u/t but leaning towards cool as I have some pink and no yellow. My personal preference is for a highlighter/ illuminating powder that does not appear like I applied one. It has been difficult to find such a product that becomes one with my skin and does not leave a color (orangey, yellowish or a “shadow “). The ones that I purchased in the past and still have, they all show up (CoverFx The Perfect Light Highlighting Powder in Moonlight, Clinique Up-lighting Illuminating Powder in 01 Nude Glow, Hourglass Dim Light, Becca in Champagne Pop, Opal, Vanilla Quartz, Rose Quartz). Some of these have hints of pink or are beigey and by looking at them in the pan, you would say that they should match or come close to my skin, which is not the case. In the pan, the Chanel one looks to me like a very light beigey-peachy shade. I can’t explain if it’s due to the (formula or the pigment combination), but it melts in the skin. Btw, it does not contain talc. Before writing these line, I have swatched on my arm all the products I mentioned, and on my skin all of them show color except the Chanel one. It seems that I have finally found a highlighter that matches my skin. I suggest you to watch the review from Angela van Rose on YT. She has a couple of videos on the new Chanel Rêve de Camélia, and in the one from February 23, 2022 she compares it with other illuminating powders/highlighters including some previous releases from Chanel. I watch her videos especially for swatches of highlighters and bronzers as we have similar preferences in terms of shades for fair skin. She is swatching in daylight whenever possible. As a note, my skin leans more on the cool side that hers. When she swatches on her arm, I see some yellow in her skin, but again, it might be the light. Hope this helps. 😊🌷
Thank you so much, Nicole. I really think it would work for me. I may have a bit more yellow in my skin, based on your description. I use to always say I had pink undertones but I now think I am more on the neutral side. I do think the skin on my face pulls more pink but my body is more yellow. I visited the Cle de Peau counter when I was in Seattle and the beauty associate told me I was wearing the wrong shade of foundation, too pink according to him, so he offered to remove my foundation and apply a better match. He removed my base makeup and then picked the foundation he thought would match me and then after swatching 4 different shades, ended up putting a pink leaning foundation that was essentially the same one I had on! He admitted that I was a hard one to match. Anyway, I think I am going to go for it. It sounds lovely.
My pleasure, Deborah. I think it will work for you. I know what you mean when referring to the foundation. All the foundations I have are neutral, however it must be a neutral capturing the right balance between yellow and pink. Not easy to find for me.
The Illuminating power from Chanel seems to have worked well on you Nicole. I am also very pale with pink undertones and most illuminating powders turn goldy on me because of their undertones. I think Chanel may have got this one right.
Indeed, it seems to work on me Genevieve. I was so happy that I finally found an illuminating powder that gives a natural luminosity and matches my skin undertones, that for a moment I thought of buying a back-up. The fact that it went out of stock in less than 24h (on Chanel’s Canadian website), and that it has remained so, did curb my enthusiasm.
Recent Purchases/Rediscoveries: Nothing new.
Weekend plans: Some sort of outdoorsy activities on Saturday, hiding from the rain on Sunday. Family calls and the usual stuff around the house. Not in the mood and mental space to make any plans still.
What was the last TV show you binged? I haven’t watched a TV show in ages… maybe it’s because I don’t own a TV. 😅 I mostly watch YouTube videos, and even if I know about shows like Loves is Blind and 90 Days Fiancee is because I watches commentary video on them (I like especially the ones focused on the psychology and gesture interpretation).
I haven’t binged in something since the first season of The Marvelous Miss Maisel… and even that I don’t think I watched more than two episodes a day.
I hope you get to go outdoors Ana Maria because it always lifts a person’s spirits when you do. Is it still very cold/wet where you are?
I recall from last week that your computer had a malfunction, so I hope it is fixed now and wasn’t too expensive.
I am not a big binger on TV shows either.
Spring is around here… just it will rain tomorrow.
The computer repair wasn’t cheap, but at least it was solved fast. I’ve come to the point in life when time is more important than money.
Aww, Winnie is still investigating and exploring your beautiful yard! Too bad I can’t get a cuddle or two with him today, because I am so very nervous and just a wee bit terrified.
Purchases/rediscoveries: Nothing purchased. But, I did have fun using some very good old ColourPop eyeshadow singles in a a few shades of green and a white gold duochrome in conjunction with a few shades from your SG x Temptalia Quintessence palette, particularly that dark, rich teal! With MAC See Sheer lipstick.
Weekend plans: I’m here in BUMC in downtown Phoenix for my surgery today. So, I guess we could say that my weekend ought to be interesting…I get to spend it in the hospital. Hopefully, you’ll all hear from me later. But, any which way it goes, I know that God has me. 💞
Last TV show you binge watching? A classic from the 90’s: The Nanny! I love Fran Drescher (I may have spelled that wrong!)
Best wishes Nancy – I will be thinking and praying for you over the weekend. I hope you packed some lipbalm! That’s one of the things I really needed when I was in hospital last year. My husband bought me sunscreen instead…LOL
Christine’s dark rich teal is such a winner, isn’t it? And I love the Flying High shade in On the Horizons Light too.
When I finally get to visit my family, I need to re-watch a few episodes of The Nanny! with my mom. It brings so many good memories.
Sending best, best, BEST wishes to you Nancy! Everyone here is rooting for you and hoping you’ll be back at the makeup table and feeling great really soon!
I hope all went well with your surgery, and praying for a speedy recovery.
Hi Nancy, I hope your surgery went well and that you’re well on your way to a full recovery!
Recent Purchases: Victoria Beckham Twist and Pout lippies. Love them.
Weekend plans: Resting.
What was the last TV show you binged? In the middle of Bones. I bought a DVD of the best of Your Show of Shows ( reading Mel Brooks’ auto biography) and will watch that when finished with Bones.
I just looked up those two lipsticks you purchased – and my – they look gorgeous shades. I would love to get some of them myself – but they are $56 + shipping to come to Aus. A tad too expensive.
Yeah, I was skeptical of her stuff at first, especially at the price point. But I tried a lid luster during lockdown and now I’m hooked. She is not as expensive as Tom Ford, lol! But similar to Dior/Chanel. I guess because it is a relatively new brand, it seems odd and off putting. But I have bought Chanel and Dior, so if I am going to shell out for that, hey not? She is expanding the products slowly.
Purchases: nothing; Rediscoveries: 2 of the 3 Buxom self-made 6 pan palettes have been my fall-backs this past week (Mink Magnet, Designer or Die, Satin Seduction and Dusk Til Dawn have been ones I’ve used this week). Also, every few weeks, when I take out NARS Old Church Street duo, I thank my lucky stars that I found it discounted AND had the good sense to buy it!
Weekend plans: maybe go to the gym tomorrow and then shop around at a few bakeries to see where i want to order a cake for my daughter’s baby shower. Then on Sunday, a trip with a friend and my daughter to a pottery out of town where they’re selling “Bowls for Ukraine” – all the proceeds go to the Canadian Ukraine Foundation to help with the crisis in Ukraine.
Last show I binge watched: Stay Close on Netflix. I would watch Richard Armitage in just about anything but this was such a stinker – I mean, a real stinker in spite of a pretty good cast by and large. I’d read the Harlan Coben book (calling it a “novel” is giving too much credit) and wondered how it is that this man is such a popular writer. Well, the Netflix adaptation was even worse….but Richard Armitage sure looked gorgeous, in a scruffy, world-weary, hard knocks sort of way.
Buxom made some of the best singles back in the day – and I could never get them here. Bronze Bod, Jaded, Dusk till Dawn, 24K Stilettos to name a few, where some of the ones I was very keen on.
The Bowls for Ukraine pottery idea is such a good one and these kind of bowls (in various sizes) would quite useful when entertaining. I think the people of Ukraine need all the help they can get.
I hope you get to find a good bakery that can make your daughter’s baby shower cake. How is she travelling at the moment?
Love Buxom lip glosses!
This pottery has done similar fund raisers in the past…usually to raise funds for local food banks. They used to have the loveliest restaurant attached (and all the dishes were from Donn Zver) but it closed down a few years ago, just pre-Pandemic if I’m not mistaken. I’ve purchased a number of their mugs, bowls, etc. over the years and they’re lovely.
I don’t understand the question about my daughter travelling? She lives about 15 minutes or half an hour from us so travel’s not an issue.
And those Buxom shades you mention…they all happen to be ones I was lucky enough to get (24KT Stilettos was a recent find at a discounter; I can’t even begin to explain how delighted I was to find it as I had never been able to get it when Sephora carried most, but not all, of their singles).
, RECENT PURCHASES: A new electric razor.
WEEKEND PLANS: My husband’s birthday is Monday, so we’ll celebrate this weekend. We’ll go out to dinner and bake him a pineapple upside down cake.
WHAT WAS THE LAST TV SHOW YOU BINGED?
I think it was The Witcher Season 2. The last few months I’ve been binging more on horror movies or arts and crafts videos on YouTube.
Happy Birthday to your husband Rachel and I hope you two have a lovely dinner out. An upside down pineapple cake seems like an old favourite……
He asks for pineapple upside down cake every year!
Happy birthday to your husband, Rachel! I love pineapple upside down cake but, in spite of my love of baking, I’ve never actually made one!
They’re easy to make and delicious.
Haul: Other than picking up a flavored lip balm, nothing this week.
Weekend plans: Nothing much. I developed a sore on the top of my right great toe which since I am a diabetic, is not good. I think my boots rubbed it the wrong way. Anyway, I was treating it just with an antibiotic ointment. That wasn’t helping and so had to resort to Drs. orders. So, I have been pretty much immobilized and that combined with two other issues, resulted in my falling back into a bit of depression and fits of crying for no good reason, other than release. As many here on the blog know, I am a cancer survivor. I had breast cancer in 2000 and will be 22 years cancer free in May. While that is wonderful, my oncologist during my treatment, told me that I would likely die from breast cancer, just when was the unknown. So, anytime I have an unexplained ache, pain, change in my system that always sends me into a bit of a tailspin. The other issue is when I do go in for my routine testing, I agonize for however long it takes to get the results back. So, I was behind in testing, not having had a mammogram, lab work etc for 3 years. Yes I know, I need to be better. Finally decided to go get everything done and now I am just waiting for results. I have a pain in my left shoulder that is relatively new, a persistent cough and if that isn’t enough, the toe sore!! Anyway, I really freak out while waiting for results. My daughter was 5 when I was diagnosed and her teachers always knew when I had tests pending as she was different during those 7-10 days. She would come out of class and run to me and ask me if I had results yet. I feel so badly that I impacted her childhood in this way although she swears that she is fine. Her pediatrician told me that it would just give her a healthy respect for cancer and that she would likely just be more aware which isn’t a bad thing. Not sure if he was just trying to make me feel better or what. Anyway, I am in that waiting period. I start out the day okay and as the day wears on, I get a little worse until I am just sitting and crying for the last couple of hours of the day. So, my weekend will be more of the same. I know it sounds crazy given that I am 22 years out but still happens. I guess I don’t have the strength of mind in this particular area. The good news is that the sun is shining and no snow if the forecast so I am cautiously optimistic that spring may be around the corner. I still have snow on the ground around my house.
TV show: Frankly, I don’t watch a lot of TV. However, it is on all day. I like the noise of it in the background. I tend to have it on true crime stations and love the Dateline Secrets etc. series. The last show that I actively binge watched was/is Outlander. Season 6 is going on now. I have been trying to get the books read but haven’t been in the mood for reading which is I think the first time in my life.
Gosh Deborah – things haven’t been too great for you lately. Firstly your toe – I am so pleased that you consulted your doctor because these things can turn septic really easily and I hope it’s responding to the antibiotics and no doubt doctor’s orders to rest. Immobility is so hard to accept and I am not surprised that you have ended up feeling depressed and despondent.
I think it was a bit hasty for the oncologist to tell you you would die from breast cancer though – I mean treatments have improved a great deal since your last episode and here you are still in the land of the living. A careless comment like that has obviously taken root in your psyche and it has made you extra worried when perhaps you didn’t need to be.
Anyway, I sincerely hope that all your test results come back negative and fine. And perhaps a bit of the sun will cure that pesky cough too.
I am glad that you are getting back to your interest in makeup and coming onto this blog. I do look forward to hearing what you’ve been up to and how you are going.
My husband is a fan of the Outlander series, but the books are long winded and, quite frankly, not well written. I think Diana Gabaldon’s editor need to take a stronger line with her and reduce the books by half. I was quite disappointed in the last few ones and couldn’t finish them.
Thank you Genevieve. I agree, things like that settle in my psyche and I struggle to keep them at bay. By the same token though, while I was going through my chemotherapy, I was feeling particularly tired, nauseated and sore so laid down on the couch to rest. Aislinn was 5 years old and she was in her bedroom playing. All of a sudden she came out and very matter of fact said, “Mom, I talked to God and he told me that you aren’t going to die from cancer.” She turned and went back into the bedroom and I can’t tell you how many times I have replayed that little moment in my mind.
I have started book 1 so many times and can never get past the first couple of chapters. I read voraciously and wondered why I couldn’t get into the books. The friend who got me started watching the show, told me I had to read the books first and she was telling me how wonderful they were. I just couldn’t get into them. I have heard that she can be a bit difficult to work with and they don’t exactly welcome her on set. Another day of sunshine today so hopefully I will turn the corner. Thank you again.
That sounds like a lot to deal with. I am sorry you are going through so much.
Thank you Sarah. It has been a difficult winter, that is for sure. The sun is shining today, although still cold. It is really a combination of a lot of things not the least of which is the fact that I live alone and although my brother and mother live less than 5 miles from me, in the winter time, it can be difficult to even navigate the 5 miles. I am hoping spring will help me snap out of it.
Doctors can make such hasty, not well thought out remarks. I do understand you worrying of course and I hope you’ll get the results very soon.
I do think crying is a good thing to be honest, I find it helps at least a little bit.
I find it really hard to read these days, after depression hit it’s been like even if I don’t have the energy to do anything, I don’t have the calmness to sit down to read. I miss it so much, I read a lot, a lot, all the time, even when walking.
Sending warm thoughts your way, take care!
You are so right about Doctors. When I was in nursing school, I was assigned to care for a postop woman who had had abdominal surgery about 6 months prior and the incision had never healed. They had used a mesh to close her abdomen as there wasn’t enough muscle to close without it. I was in her room with her and her family when the Doctor came in the morning after surgery. He examined her, told her everything looked good, answered a couple of questions and left the room. He got just outside the door when he turned and said, “Oh, and by the way, you have cancer.” Me, the poor little nursing student didn’t know what to say. While I know by the strict letter of medicine, he is likely right but you are right, I didn’t need to hear it. Thank you Helene.
I hope your toe sore heals quickly. Waiting for mammogram results are nerve-wracking. I pray yours will be all clear. Hang in there, hon. I know how hard the depression monster is. I hope you’ll be able to move closer to your daughter’s soon.
Thank you Rachel. Yes, it can be difficult. We have had 3 consecutive days of sunshine so I am hoping the worst of winter is over and once I can get out and move around, I am sure I will begin to feel better.
All these new smells are so interesting to Winnie!
