MAC x Selena Techno Cumbia Powder Blush Duo Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Techno Cumbia Blush Duo
MAC Techno Cumbia Blush Duo ($29.00 for TBA oz.) is blush duo that features a split-pan with more of the deeper shade (Blunt) and a smaller portion of the lighter shade (Ven Conmigo). The smaller blush is hard to apply on its own, as it doesn’t accommodate the average blush brush well, and even my smaller blush brushes were too large and I had to pinch the brush head to get it to narrow and fit in the area. This was the weakest product in the collection, so I figured we’d get it out of the way.
Blunt is described as a “muted golden brown.” It’s a dark, rosy brown–almost plummy–with a mostly matte finish. It looked warmer and more like that “golden brown” in the pan, but it darkened up a lot and looked much cooler in tone (though still warm overall) swatched on my arm as well as on my cheeks. I am warm-toned, so things looking cooler than they do in the pan is usually not something I experience! The texture was fairly soft, moderately blendable, but it wasn’t the best texture for such an intense, pigmented blush as it required extra work to blend and diffuse the color. It wore well for almost nine hours on me before I noticed fading. Chanel Plum Attraction (LE, $45.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Earthshine (LE, $34.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Trippin' (LE, $12.00) is more shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Tea Petal (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Make Up For Ever S404 (P, $23.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (80% similar). Viseart Bronze #3 (PiP, ) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Film Noir (P, $24.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Ven Conmigo is described as a “beige pink.” It’s a soft, medium rosy mauve with warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was firm and difficult to get color out of; I had to scrape at the top layer to get enough powder off the surface to even show up on the skin. It wore well for six hours on me before fading.
Makeup Geek Puppy Love (P, $10.00) is darker (90% similar). LORAC Cinematic (P, $23.00) is darker (90% similar). Anastasia Blank (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Royal (LE, $29.00) is cooler (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
The MAC x Selena collection will be available online September 28th for MAC Select members and October 1st for all others. It will be in select store locations on October 6th–call your local store to find out if they will be one of those locations.

Hmm, not very convincing.
It’s definitely not the best blush!
Too bad. I saw the plum in Blunt (you are educating our views) and really liked it. Conmigo seems to have blown it. Also thought of Puppy Love, when I saw that, ’cause it’s not real pink. Minor disappointment. Doubt I’d get this for one shade, but Tea Petal might be a no go..maybe back to my skin eating cream blush formulas. The non-disappointment with MAC today is their handling of the Taraji mislabeling situation. Good resolution. Who ever expected them to gear up for another run? Nice work, MAC.
I’m glad MAC did customers right with the Taraji mistake!
So bummed to see that this blush isn’t as high performing as expected! I agree that the light blush shade is barely noticeable on the swatches and I was surprised at the bronzer shade – it looks difficult to pull off!
I wish it was better!
Are these meant to be mixed??
Since they called it a duo, I presumed two blushes, but you could definitely mix the two if you prefer. The lighter shade is stiff enough that it doesn’t really contribute to the darker shade unless I jab at it/scrape off the powder first.
Oh no!! The packaging is so pretty, and I thought the colors themselves would look amazing for medium to darker skin tones. It’s very interesting how Blunt looks completely different swatched vs. in pan, sounds like it darkened and oxidized. And the lighter color would’ve been pretty on me. IDK, I’m really hoping you got a wonky press sample, and the actual product sold to customers performs better. That did happen with MAC Star Trek Kling It On, where mine had a ton more pigment and shimmer than yours, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed on this one, hoping Selena fans won’t be disappointed….
Here’s hoping!
As crazy as this may sound, I intend on getting this. But I will be swirling the 2 shades together instead of using them separately. In which case, I believe I can get a soft, somewhat natural bronzey plum shade that I hope will look good on my medium olive skintone. If not, then as a memento!
Just a heads up – the lighter shade is stiff to the point where it doesn’t seem to alter the darker shade if swirled, because nothing really gets picked up 🙁
Thanks for the heads up! If nothing else, Blunt will still give me that more wintery bronze effect, where there’s some plumminess to it.
If that Blunt swatch was a lipstick shade I’d be all over it! I’m so excited the Selena collection is almost here and very relieved this is the weakest link. With mac le’s there’s always that worry it will be awful but with her family being so involved and the delays in release I had hope. This is a very good sign I think.
I thought we’d just get this one out of the way, lol!
I am so excited right now, because Earthshine was one of my favourite contours, right until it got too old and made my face itch. I haven’t been able to find a dupe till now and if it swatches and tests well I will DEFINITELY be getting it. Thanks so much Christine!
Also, as a head sup, Blunt is part of the permanent range as well!
I got really excited at first but when I looked up swatches online the permanent one looks warmer and less purple than the above. Will be heading to a MAC store to check though, thanks for the heads up!
Hi Christine! As a long time user of blunt, I can definitely tell you that this color is not the same as the one in the permanent range. I use blunt as my everyday contour/bronzer and there is no hint of plum whatsoever in the original. The OG is much warmer. Oddly enough, it does still do the color switch, but it’s more similar to MAC Raizin with a little more brown to it.
I might still purchase for the sake of getting a product from the collection, but I will have to use this blunt in a different way for sure!
I agree. The permanent Blunt is lovely. This is completely different and looks patchy. There is an old color called Reed I wish they used which is akin to a plummy Blunt. This does look more like Raizin than Blunt. MAC has great blush formulas, so it is particularly offensive when they put out horrible patchy blushes you have to scrape at.
Aw, that’s a real shame. Ven Conmigo is a nice color, but it sounds like a nightmare to handle.
It was!
How did MAC screw up such a basic blush shade as Ven Conmigo ? Blunt, on the other hand, is a really gorgeous shade.
So weird 🙁
Oh dear!
Yeah! 🙁
I wonder if the Blunt in this set is the same as the permanenr one.
I wish I could compare for you, but I don’t have that one!
An easy no for me.
Money saved!
Mac does it again! Remember the Rihanna collaboration with Mac. Same concept and same problem. The split pan concept isn’t working. Why wouldn’t they fix the problem. Smh.. Those colors are still and it’s hard to get any color pay off.
They should have just released two individual blushes 🙁
This was one of the products I was most excited for in the launch. I am disappointed and torn whether I should get this. Ven Comingo is nonexistent and Blunt looks a little messy. I would of paid the money for 2 seperate blushes.
I know, I know! I figured a lot of people would be interested in the blush 🙁
I’ve always been curious of blunt because some people use it to contour with. It definitely looks darker swatched than in the pan. Do you think that it would work as a contour on darker skin tones? (Nc50)
Yes, I think it could be used to contour on darker skin tones!
I use it as a contour and I LOVE it ?
The rosey-ness of the bronzer is surprisingly nice, but it looks like it’s difficult to blend out. I prefer building up color, rather then getting a ton of pigment straight away and panicking while blending it. I find I don’t reach for those blushes and bronzer’s as often. I will check out ur dupes 🙂
Hope a dupe works for ya, Nora!
Hmmm… this seems very similar to the riri x mac collection, looks half assed and rushed.
Hopefully that means money saved for you!
Wow! I purchased this item and was looking for details and pointers exactly like you laid out, thank you!!
