MAC x Proenza Schouler Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.10 oz.) come in four, limited edition shades. The collection launches online on April 21st and in-stores on April 24th. Each lipstick is housed in metallic, square tubes.

Mangrove is described as a “bright clean orange-red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a brightened, medium coral-red with warm, orange undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage that applied evenly and smoothly without dragging or tugging at the lip during application. This shade wore well for six hours and left a stain behind, though it was just slightly drying. MAC Dangerous (P, $16.00) is darker. MAC Rozz (LE, $16.00) is redder. MAC Scarlet Ibis (LE, $16.00) is darker. MAC Lady Danger (P, $16.00) is darker, more orange. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pinkfringe is described as a “vivid flamingo pink [with a Satin finish].” It’s a brightened, light-medium pink with subtle neutral-to-warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff, and the texture was very creamy and emollient, so it did create “lines” if you pressed your lips together. The color wore well for four hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating. YSL Fetish Pink (8) (P, $34.00) is less shimmery, a little lighter. MAC What a Feeling! (LE, $20.00) is sheerer. Too Faced Razzle Dazzle Rose (P, $21.00) is sheerer. Maybelline Pink Pop (P, $7.49) is cooler-toned, less shimmery. MAC Divine Choice (P, $22.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Primrose is described as a “sheer berry plum [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a medium-dark, cool-toned berry plum with a glossy shine. It had semi-opaque color coverage that applied somewhat unevenly with a little settling of the color into lip lines. As the color wore away, it did seem to migrate and settle more into the lip lines. It managed to wear four hours and left a stain behind, which is quite long for a Lustre finish, and it wasn’t drying. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is more opaque. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is brighter.Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is more shimmery. MAC Rebel (P, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned, less glossy. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Woodrose is described as a “light pink with beige [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a light beige with a rosy tint and a soft shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, though Lustres are a sheerer range, so it is unusually opaque. The consistency was creamy with enough slip to apply without tugging, and it applied evenly the most part. It wore well for three and a half hours and was a little drying. MAC Pure Pout (P, $22.00) is warmer. Maybelline Blushing Beige (915) (P, $7.49) is not quite as pink. MAC Innocence Beware (LE, $16.00) is slightly cooler-toned. MAC Crème d’Nude (P, $16.00) is slightly warmer. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Boyfriend Stealer is purpler on me!

Also, you can actually compare any two shades I’ve swatched before here: http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery — just enter the two you’re looking for, and it’ll pull up swatches for both. If you think they’re dupes, you can even submit them right there 🙂 I’m happy to give you my insight any time, but I’m also trying to spread the word that this feature exists, too!

Hello! Lovely pics:) do you think Mangrove is a dupe for Toxic Tale?

I tried to do comp pics with your feature but the pic for Toxic Tale does not come up!

Thanks:)

Oh no, I want them all :/. I’m really into springy type colours atm, so pinkfringe is right up my alley. As is primrose, it just looks so slick. It’ll be nice over currant liner! Ahh can’t wait, love your swatches 😀

I love Primrose and Mangrove – fortunately for my wallet, I am not a fan of MACs lipstick formula.

I have to say (once again) I cannot believe how cheap and ugly the packaging for this collection looks. It’s like a horrible powerpoint slideshow background from 1997.

Mangrove shall belong to me! Sad to see Primrose was so uneven as that is the one that I was most interested in. Thanks for the reviews Christine!

Love your swatch gallery! But I could only find the liquid lipstick version of Hourglass’s Muse, and I was wondering how the tube version of Muse compares to Mangrove (Sorry if that’s a silly question, but I remember the tube form appearing different from the liquid form)? Thanks Christine!

I was super excited about Woodrose, it really looked like the perfect pale nude. I loved that it was a lustre becuse I think nudes look better and more natural when some of my natural lip color shines through. Unfortunately it’s way too opaque for a typical lustre, so it’s a definite pass for me. 🙁

Morning Christine (well morning here)
Do you happen to have any information about it’s availability in México or internationally?
Thanks.
I think I need Mangrove and possible Pinkfringe but mostly Ocean City, I’m waiting for your review tho xD. <3

I’m not sure I’ll actually buy anything from this collection but can I just say that this is probably the first time in a long while that MAC has released a collection where almost every colour would suit cool toned skin better than warmer skin tones. I’m a little jealous though 🙂

Veronica Avatar

I wouldn’t call this an overtly cool-toned collection when it contains shades like Mangrove and Pinkfringe. Not that somebody with my skin tone (NW10) couldn’t pull off shades like that, but I’d say it’s more like a well balanced collection than and overtly cool-toned one.

I got really carried away with the pretty packaging and the colours (Primrose and Mangrove called out to my inner being) …. then I saw the price. What is MAC’s justification for selling these for $22? Are we really paying $6 more for the packaging? I was going to get each lipstick but now I’m going to have to rearrange my priorities lol. I love MAC lipsticks but I’m not sure I love ’em THAT much! lol.

Shars Avatar

*Sigh!* At least the blushes aren’t priced up more than they would be for a LE collection so I will definitely try to grab one or both. I really love the packaging though…. *decisions decisions*

Veronica Avatar

I love Mangrove and Woodrose, but agh….the packaging. I mean, the colors are gorgeous, but what were they thinking with the word placement? Think how much sleeker and balanced that tube would look if the writing ran vertical instead of horizontal. I might take a stab at Woodrose if I stumble upon it in stores, but it’s not a collection that inspires me to go running after it.

Kat Avatar

What a coincidence that on my science test today there was a question about mangrove swamp biomes… But anyway, could you please tell me which is the darkest out of Blushing Beige, Pure Pout and Woodrose?

Vilkas Avatar

Thanks. I love Ablaze, but that waxy texture is the worst. Wow-I’d not found that side by side comparison tool-I have a similar enough coloring that your examples are like I’m trying the product on myself! Thank for all you do!

Helene Avatar

I really wanted Primrose to be opaque (sp?) My wallet is happy that it’s on the sheer side, though. I’ll not buy it. Mangrove on the other hand looks very interesting. I love Lady Danger, Mangrove is a bit like a younger sister, and would look really good on a sunny early summer day. It’s a must try in person for me. Strange, I usually don’t like the warm colours on my lips, but lately I love to one day go with Up the Amp or heroine and the next use Lady Danger.
Lipsticks are so much fun!

Kathryn Avatar

It’s funny, I went in to see Pinkfringe but walked out with Mangrove and the matching liner. I wore it that night and look out did I get some attention. Also, I must agree Christine that Dynamo is awesome as well.

Stephanie Avatar

I dunno I like the packaging but none of these lipsticks are doing it for me :/ especially not at that price point! I’m waiting for the blushes to get my compact fix 🙂
