Burning Nights

MAC Burning Nights Mineralize Eyeshadow Quad ($46.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a smoky mix of neutrals and a blackened navy blue. If one tends to like MAC’s Mineralize fomrula, I don’t think this would fall that short of expectations, but in order to get true-to-pan coverage and intensity, they need to be used with a dampened brush or over a lightly tacky primer.

Nano Nude

Nano Nude is a soft, golden beige with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage that lasted for six and a half hours applied with a dry brush. The pigmentation was opaque and stayed on for seven and a half hours when applied damp. The consistency was soft, smooth, and easy to blend out on the lid.

Suede

Suede is a muted, medium-dark gold with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and stayed on well for six hours when used dry. When I applied it with a dampened brush, the coverage was opaque and wore well for seven and a half hours. The texture was smooth to the touch and easy to blend out.

Jungle Green

Jungle Green is a deep, olive green with warm undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had a soft, moderately dusty texture when applied dry that made it more prone to fallout during application. The pigmentation was semi-sheer applied dry and intensified to mostly opaque coverage when applied with a dampened brush. The eyeshadow lasted for six hours on me applied dry and seven and a half hours on me applied damp.

Space

Space is a blackened navy blue with lighter blue pearl. It had sheer coverage that lasted for six hours applied dry, which intensified to semi-opaque coverage when applied with a dampened brush that stayed on for a bit longer at seven hours. The texture was drier and thinner, which made it more challenging to blend out the edges of.

This little quad is reminiscent of Chanel’s offerings and has beautiful shade combinations. It would have been the first MAC eyeshadow quad I would have considered purchasing, had it not been for that disastrous blue shade.
I really love the shades and it was such a shame that MAC did not get that blue even partially right. It could have easily been fantastic.
Gorgeous eye look Christine, I really love it.

I keep coming back to GAZE at this one! How I wish the blue were better….the more I think about it, the more I think it would be great to have, if ONLY that blue were better. For upwards of $50, which this will likely cost here, all 4 shades have to be good and the one really distinctive one should be the best of the bunch.

Okay….here’s what’s really odd and perhaps explains why “Space” (the “blue” shade) is so dreadful. MAC’s own description of the colour, from your November “latest collection” overview, is that this is “dark olive brown”??? WTH??? I’d like to know what drugs those people are taking!

I do like the Mineralize formula and I love olive colors. The blue is throwing me off, though. I’m on the fence. I do love your eye look though, very cool with the blue eyeliner. Maybe this will end up on their 40% off page in a few months.

Oh gosh – I hadn’t even though of it ending up in the “Good-byes” section, marked down. That would be wonderful, though with Jade Jagger’s name on it, I’m somehow thinking it will sell out before that.

Can some of the youngsters here tell me if Jade is any sort of social icon??? I mean, to me, her dad and his work buddies were huge icons but I’m curious about Jade herself…do people flock to her to be told what’s new and noteworthy in life?

Ginny Avatar

I’m American so none of Jagger’s kids are really on the social radar here, that I know of. Jade is also in her forties so I doubt many young Americans even know who she is. She may be more influential in the UK a la Stella McCartney.

Shame that the blue isn’t better, though I’m not fussy about the first shade, either. The palette serves as inspiration for shades I already own.
