Friend Like Me

MAC Friend Like Me Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, medium pink with neutral undertones and a cream finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in a single layer, while the texture was lightly creamy, emollient without being slippery, and denser in the tube but not to the point where it dragged or tugged on my lips during application. The color applied evenly but had a tendency to separate along my deeper lip lines. It stayed on well for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time but some color did settle into my lip lines over time.

Formula Overview

$20.00/0.1 oz. - $200.00 Per Ounce

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.

Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.

The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

Princess Incognito

MAC Princess Incognito Lipstick ($20.00 for 0.1 oz.) is a muted, dusty corla with warmer undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly across my lips without tugging. The texture was creamy, smooth, and velvety with a slightly denser, thicker feel, though it never felt heavy on. There was a bit of product that separated along and settled into my deeper lip lines but wasn’t noticeable until after two to three hours of wear (and it lasted well for four hours). The formula was neither drying nor hydrating to me.

Seeing the bullet of Princess Incognito, I was thrilled but then I saw how dry and matte it looks applied and that pretty much killed the thrill for me. Something this matte and dry looking would just not work for me at all.

I was also keen on Princess Incognito from seeing it from the bullet, but once I saw these pictures I’m not sure… has too much coral and will look unflattering on me. When she showed only the lip swatches the color looked more brown, but once the whole face is `available`, it’s quite coral.
I’ve been so much time on this website that I started knowing when a color will suit me or not based on how it looks on Christine. 😆 It’s not that we look both the same with the same lip color (sometimes something very flattering on her looks bad on me), but I know how to interpret results.

I didn’t look at the full face photo but you are right, Ana Maria – it is much more coral than I realized. I just looked at the lip photo, where it looks more rosy pink but it was the texture that changed my mind with this. The colour probably wouldn’t work for me either but I hadn’t got past the photo showing the texture.

I want a couple things from this collection for the packaging. I like the color of Incognito but it’s a bit light. I may get the dark pink lip stick. And maybe I’ll pick up the eye liner since I love MAC’s Graph Black Technakhol.

Oddly, these 2 were my favorites. Rajah is 100% VG III renamed, as several MAC SA/MUA’s and myself found out for ourselves yesterday! And the fuchsia probably wouldn’t do me any favors. Besides, I have Mittai Pink from last year. Sooo, I did buy A Friend Like Me after seeing it WITH lip liner and gloss. Probably my lightest lipstick in my stash. If I see a Princess Incognito still hanging around come June 1st…?

I just picked up Friend Like Me since it is similar enough to my LE Samantha Ravndahl; probably my most used MAC lipstick shade ever and that’s saying something… I had the UD dupe, Native, but tossed it because I find the formula feels so waxy and hateful (and the taste is a total turn off) on my lips. I’d rather take a B-rating from a MAC.

I love the hot pink, but surely, I have enough of those ?.

I definitely thought there would be more dupes for Princess Incognito, I’m surprised! Do any of you have ideas for dupes that aren’t listed? I am trying to avoid buying as I’m sure I’ve got something similar.

Aubrey Avatar

I was trying to find a dupe in my stash too…I have Bareminerals XOX lipstick and using the dupe feature, that looks pretty similar in color (although a different finish). Maybe you could check out the dupes for that color as well?
