MAC x Chris Chang Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches
MAC Royal Woo Eyeshadow
MAC Royal Woo Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pastel lemon yellow [with a Matte finish].” It’s a bright, medium yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a soft, lightly powdery texture that was a bit dry and emphasized the dryness on my lids. I happened to have a “free” eye for testing, and I was expecting these to fall pretty flat without primer (they actually applied decently without it, though), so I figured I’d try them over primer as well, and the primer helped to smooth out the drier, chalkier consistency of the eyeshadow. MAC Electric Mandarin Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “neon mandarin orange [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium, coral-orange with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, lightly powdery consistency that made it sheer out a bit when applied, so it had to be patted on, rather than swept, to maintain true-to-pan color. This shade wore for eight hours before fading. Make Up For Ever S748 Coral (DC, $21.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). MAC Dynamo (LE, $22.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Mu Mu Bloom Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “hot pink [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium pink with cool undertones and a satin finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was fairly buildable on the lid. The texture was soft, lightly dusty, but very blendable on the skin. The color wore well for eight hours. Huda Beauty Ruby #9 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Sephora Tulip (PiP, ) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (95% similar). ColourPop Tart Me Up (PiP, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (95% similar). NARS Domination (P, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). Urban Decay 1960 (LE, $19.00) is darker (95% similar). MAC Pale Pipa Eyeshadow ($17.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pastel turquoise [with a Matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium aqua with cool undertones and a matte finish. This was the worst performer of the four, as it was semi-sheer in coverage, hard to build up, and moderately powdery–so it was already sheer to begin with and tended to sheer out further applied. I would recommend using a white, tacky base underneath this one to give it something to adhere to. It lasted for seven hours before fading. Disney by Sephora Blue Oasis (LE, ) is brighter (90% similar). MAC Powerful Performance (LE, $17.00) is brighter (90% similar). Sephora + Pantone Universe Cascade (LE, ) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Sephora Helen P (LE, ) is brighter, warmer (85% similar). I’m going to pass on these shadows, but that’s a gorgeous look that you did with them!!
Thanks, Sarah!
Love the look you created with these! I don’t wear brights on my eyes very often so I don’t think I need any of the shadows but it’s very inspiring!
Thank you, Lulle! 🙂
That eye look is right up my alley.
Awesome 😀
Bummer about Pale Pipa 🙁 That was the color I was most looking forward to, it would’ve paired nicely with Cloud Gait lipstick, but that has its own issues (sigh). I’ll think about Electric Mandarin, it’s dupe-able, but I’ve been on an orange kick lately, and the packaging is so pretty.
I hear you, Katherine! Pale Pipa was sad 🙁
Yeah, between my Coastal Scents 252 palette and Sugarpill pan shadows I could blend up something like Pale Pipa. It looked like a nice baby blue though.
Love the look you did! I like the mandarin shade, i think i will look into MUG poppy, cheaper and better performing. Excelent work again, Christine!
Aw, thanks Mandy!
The look you created is stunning! I would love to see a video tutorial of how you apply and blend your eyeshadows – mine never seem to come out as seamless and with as much depth as yours do 🙂
Thanks a lot! I have some older tutorials still on my channel, and while I don’t pursue video as a format any more, I don’t really apply my makeup differently either!
Oooh! I’ll have to check that out – thanks 🙂
The look you’ve created puts me in mind of a toucan’s bill, they are such beautiful colours. I’d buy all except Royal Woo. However, the only one I’d actually buy is Electric Mandarin as I already have Bird’s Eye View and Pipa is not good enough to buy, altho I love the aqua colour, I’d go for a dupe. Looking at the dupes for Mu Mu Bloom, there are a couple of mint shades put down as possible dupes!! Weird lol.
I wish Pale Pipa performed better – not wholly surprised or anything by its performance, but the others DID surprise me, so I was sad when it didn’t!
Toucan.. nailed it!
Pale Pipa was a hopeful for me but it’s not going to work out. I thought it might make a nice summer wash shade.
Aw, darn! I think it would be hard to get an even wash with it 🙁
Those 1st 3, please and thank you! Love them much!
True story, Christine; the past 2 nights in a row I have been taking the vivid yellow, oranges and pinky-purple from my BH Foil Eyes palette and on the back of my hand, doing an nearly IDENTICAL practice run of an eye look I’ve been chomping at the bit to do! Same color theme, but metallic, same placement of shades, with the exception of no light aqua. Gonna do this!
But with a hit of vivid PURPLE instead. RIP, my Brother. See you in Paradise. ???
Do it! Do it!! 🙂
Such sad news that came out today!
“HOW MANY YELLOW EYESHADOWS DOES ONE PERSON NEED?!” I say to myself as I put Royal Woo on my wishlist. ::sigh:: I’m a sucker for yellows and beautiful packaging.
LOL! It is a good question, though 😉 How often do you wear yellow, Ceebee?
More than you’d think! It’s my favorite way to add a pop of color to an otherwise neutral look. I am not a huge fan of straight up neutrals on me, so if I need to do something a bit more toned down, I throw yellow on the inner corners or something. My idea of “toned down”. 😉 I also wear it with brighter looks. But lets be honest, I’m totally going for the packaging here.
Love the look you created!
Thank you, Liesbeth!
I’m in love with your eye look! I love the packaging and the bright colors. That yellow looks amazing! It’s a shame about the blue, because in the pan it’s absolutely lovely. The color looks a lot like the Tarte Clay Pot Liner in Mint (much more blue than green), so I feel I’m covered there. I don’t look great in lighter blues, so I’d only use if for accents, anyway. For the same money, though, I’d go for the Melt Radioactive stack over these.
Thanks so much, Rachel!
The packaging looks like it;s a lot of fun but the quality is all over the place on this!
Pale Pipa was definitely a disappointment!
A beautiful eye look and such a big difference without and with primer. Which is what I love so much about MUFE Artist’s shadows…I don’t HAVE to wear a primer(if I don’t want to) to get great results. The packaging is beautiful, though, so I’m still going to consider these.
A really great eyeshadow doesn’t need primer, IMO, for things like application/pigmentation/blendability. Depending your eye shape/skin type, that’s where I think primer can be either a must or not, but I just feel like great eyeshadow will at least apply beautifully with or without primer!
I don’t wear colors like those but I am going to get at least one item because I like the packaging.
I hope you can find one to love and wear!
That yellow is brilliant! It’s too bad about Pipa, though, because the color is so pretty.
I wish Pale Pipa was better for sure!
That eeeeeeye look!!
🙂
I’m going to pass, but I love the look that you came up with!
Thanks a lot!
I LOVE the look you did with these!! I want Royal Woo and Electric Mandarin, and possibly Pale Pipa.
Thank you, Erin!
