MAC Trusted Instinct Veluxe Pearlfusion Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Trusted Instinct Veluxe Pearlfusion Eyeshadow Palette ($44.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a rather plummy palette with some warmth. The shades coordinate well with each other, and I liked that not all of them were incredibly glittery as some of the other Veluxe Pearlfusion palettes have been. If you’re unfamiliar with the formula, it’s supposed to be a “hybrid formula” that can be applied dry for sheer color, wet for opaque color with supreme blendability. I agree that the formula in the palette is easily blended, but at times, the shades blend too readily, sheer out and fade, and often, the colors run together and create a muddied appearance due to the very soft, sometimes powdery and other times crumbly, consistency of the shadows themselves. I think a good primer is a must here to help the shades stick better without sheering out so easily. I get good wear, though, and all five shades lasted for eight and a half hours.
Trusted Instinct #1 is apale, warm-toned beige with a frosted finish. It was sheer applied dry, semi-sheer applied damp. It was slightly powdery to work with. This type of shade seems to be in the majority of the Veluxe Pearlfusion palettes (some variation on beige). See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Trusted Instinct #2 is a warm, reddish taupe-brown with a frosted sheen. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer and looked browner, but applied damp, the gray became much more pronounced and more opaque. The consistency was lightly powdery but blendable. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Trusted Instinct #3 is a medium-dark, warm-toned plum with a copper-red undertone and a pearly sheen. The texture was soft enough that it was a bit crumbly to work with when dry, where it also had semi-sheer coverage. It was easier to use with a dampened brush, as the eyeshadow smoothed out more. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Trusted Instinct #4 is a medium-dark, golden brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had sheer color payoff applied dry, and it was mostly opaque applied damp. The texture was soft but a little dry. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Trusted Instinct #5 is a blackened taupe with hints of purple and brown that has a more frosted, slightly sparkly, finish. It is fairly sparkly, though a lot of the sparkle doesn’t translate onto the lid, but there is some fall out over time. It had semi-sheer coverage applied dry and opaque pigmentation applied damp. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Some of the shades are very nice, which is a good change for the formula. In the initial swatches, I liked the shades in the other palette better, though. 🙂
Hopefully that one performs better!
I’m glad to see that the two colours I like the best in this has dupes in the big palette, I just forgot the name, same collection. Duh, how stupid to forget.
It was surprisingly dupable!
Pretty!!! I really like this.
Yay!
The #5 shade is a beautiful dark brown! The palette overall is too warm for me, but I am glad that this one didn’t turn out as poorly as I seem to remember the recent palettes in the same vein being!
I was surprised this wasn’t cooler-toned!
The colors are pretty, and not over-the-top pearly like I thought they’d be. They sound too powdery for my taste, though.
I do like that they toned down the glitter in these!
This is a pass for me.
Would be a pass for me, too!
On the one hand, it’s nice to see a more workable formula here. On the otherhand, by toning it down, it loses that bit of uniqueness the formula had. It just makes me question what niche this formula fills.
I’m really not sure. I feel like they’re too shimmery more often than not, but then they’re also too easily blended/sheered out, so I’m not sure if it’s just for someone who wants one or two shades at a time, more washes of color than real color. I want to like these, but they tend to fall short.
I almost feel like these were meant to be kind of like pressed pigments – the shimmer/wash that the more pearlescent pigments (think something like Kitschmas) can give, only less mess.
I could actually get down with that, if they actually worked that way.
I don’t usually care for these palettes but these colors are very pretty. I love #3!
The color combo is nice!
Not a fan of these – very, very dupable colours that I am sure everyone has a lot of somewhere.
Yes, definitely dupable shades!
The package is just awful. What were they thinking? Same with the bigger palette.
I wonder who decides on packaging and whether they thought it would appeal to most or not.
I always find Pearlfusion shadows really sheer and lacking in richness! The color selection is nice though.
Yep! They are designed to be sheer dry, then opaque damp, so if you want any semblance of richness, you have to use them damp 🙁
I see what you mean about muddied, the all over look is not as plummy as I would expect, just looking at all the shadow pans. But I definitely see how it came together and ended up browner. Too bad, I’m all about plummy, haha.
The plum is definitely not as visible ON the lid, since it just doesn’t… get there. It’s a great combo but doesn’t quite come together without a real base.
Love checking out eyeshadow palettes from MAC!! I think I love these type of palettes with more wearable shades 🙂 Which was your favorite shade in this palette?
The last one!
Hmm, too bad they tend to be a bit too sheer. The color are lovely though.
I wish they were easier to use!
