MAC Mind Control Lipstick

MAC Mind Control Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright cherry red [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a brightened, medium-dark red with cool, bluish undertones and a very, very fine dusting of gold and pink micro-shimmer (it’s really not noticeable as a distinct shimmer, only as a sheen). It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a creamy, moderately emollient consistency that glided on easily and didn’t feel heavy on. It seemed thinner than the typical Amplified. It wore well for five hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Bite Beauty Tannin (DC, $24.00) is lighter (95% similar). Cle de Peau Dragon Red (P, $65.00) is lighter, glossier (95% similar). Shiseido Ruby Copper (RD501) (DC, $28.00) is lighter (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Armie (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (95% similar). MAC Como La Flor (LE, $19.00) is cooler (95% similar). Hourglass Innovator (P, $32.00) is warmer (95% similar). Bite Beauty Coulis (LE, $24.00) is lighter, more muted (95% similar). Estee Lauder Boldface (P, $32.00) is darker (95% similar). Besame American Beauty 1945 (P, $22.00) is cooler (95% similar). Urban Decay Spiderweb (DC, $18.00) is lighter, brighter (95% similar). MAC Stunner (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Make Up For Ever C404 (DC, $22.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty #009 (LE, $36.00) is cooler (95% similar). Shiseido Poppy (RD312) (DC, $28.00) is lighter (90% similar). Clinique Cherry Pop (P, $19.50) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Sephora Popsicle Lips (28) (P, $8.00) is lighter (90% similar). Estee Lauder Noirish (P, $32.00) is lighter (90% similar). Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $45.00) is darker (90% similar). Bite Beauty Red Velvet (DC, $24.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Braised (DC, $24.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

MAC Which Witch Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep plum [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a blackened purple with subtle, warm plummy undertones and a dash of violet micro-shimmer. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a consistency that had moderate slip–it definitely slides around on me and could be a shade that feathers for some as a result. Application could have been better, but it isn’t the worst I’ve seen; some visible streaky and general unevenness, so I would recommend a lip liner with this one. It wore well for four hours and left a stain behind, while the formula was neither hydrating nor drying. MAC Power My Spirit (LE, $19.00) is cooler (95% similar). MAC Instigator (P, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Nevermind (LE, $7.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Smoked Purple (P, $19.00) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Revlon Midnight Mystery (P, $8.49) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Firm Form (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Estee Lauder Extrovert (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). MAC Noblesse (DC, $21.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). MAC Yung Rapunxel (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Phenomenal Woman (LE, $19.00) is darker, brighter (85% similar). Makeup Geek Shady (P, $15.00) is darker, brighter, more pigmented (85% similar). ColourPop Hutch (P, $7.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Train Bleu (P, $27.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Bite Beauty Berry Rouge (LE, $26.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Guess (DC, $6.50) is cooler, less glossy (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Scandal (226) (P, $30.00) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). ColourPop Feminist (LE, $7.00) is darker (80% similar). MAC Fervent (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). MAC Potent Fig (LE, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Well, I posted my comment under the preview for this not expecting that you would have a review up so soon! You are a total miracle worker. And now, I have to decide if I’m going to buy these, lol! It just drives me nuts when Mac puts out a new release the day before!

Very true and I’m not going to. I am thankful that Mac doesn’t go crazy with their prices. So, I can swing it financially. But, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to catch it on the internet. Just depends on them really. It really is more important to sleep some and keep my job, ya know? lol! I honestly am sweating the CP collection a lot more. Fingers crossed it’s well stocked and releases at a reasonable time!

I get Brooke Candy isn’t like, a *HUGE* name or anything, but for such dupeable shades they should’ve at least had some special packaging for incentive to buy them. Especially considering Brooke Candy’s shtick is more about her visuals than her music. That makes these a pass for me, but the colors are nice!

Which Witch would have been better if it wasnt so slippery. I think dark lipsticks can be hard to wear because its easy to notice it settle in lip lines, so I always get something really matte to prevent that. Its a pass for me.

I’m SO glad I got to see your comparison swatches for these! I always read the review first and then check out the comparison swatches (that’s almost always how I read reviews). I don’t mind fiddling with finicky products so even if something gets a C rating, I might check it out and love it… BUT… I honestly can’t tell a difference looking at Instigator next to Which Witch (I imagine if you wore one on Monday and the other on Tuesday people wouldn’t be able to tell the difference)! So while I may adore the name… I feel comfortable passing on this one! I thank you and my bank account thanks you (which is a total lie because you KNOW I’m just going to pass on this and buy something else instead LOL! xo

LOL Very few LE collections get the discount anymore. You used to get it on all of them except the licensed stuff (even special packaged Holiday and Summer collections – I have my receipts to prove it). MAC actually denies this though. They’ll tell you the PRO program doesn’t change and it’s always been this way. IMO that’s the most frustrating part.
