MAC Wash & Dry Crisp Whites and Hipness Blush Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Blush
MAC Wash & Dry Blushes

MAC Crisp Whites Blush ($24.50 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “pale tangerine with pearl.” It’s a light-medium, peachy-orange with warm, yellow undertones and a soft, satiny sheen. It had a fairly soft, smooth texture that was blendable on the skin, while the finish appears pearly at times, once on the skin, it seemed more semi-matte to satin-like, but it wasn’t noticeably shimmery. The color seemed to darken slightly when applied to bare skin (unless you’re very dry, it can happen with some blushes due to the natural oils on the skin) and shows subtly on my medium complexioni, but it is likely a color better suited to lighter skin tones unless you’re going for subtle. It wore well for eight hours on me. MAC Freshen Up (LE, $35.50) is darker, brighter (and potential to be redder). Urban Decay Kinky (P, $26.00) is darker. Urban Decay Indecent (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, cooler-toned. MAC Style Cast (LE, $21.00) is slightly more shimmery. Makeup Geek Smitten (P, $9.99) is darker, more matte. Dior Amber (002) (LE, $56.00) is yellower. NARS Luster (P, $30.00) is darker, more shimmery. MAC Blazing Haute (LE, $25.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

MAC Hipness Blush ($24.50 for 0.16 oz.) is described as a “light peach.” It’s a medium, pink-coral with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff with a soft, thinner texture that wasn’t powdery but was harder to blend on the skin. It seemed to stick in certain areas and darken in some areas but not in others–I highly recommend using a translucent powder under this to make it easier to apply, as it wasn’t forgiving. The version released in this collection is about two shades darker than the version I have from the Fafi collaboration many years ago, and the older version I have didn’t stick or darken in places like this one did. On me, it wore well for eight hours before fading. ColourPop Early Bird (P, $8.00) is a cream blush, pinker. Chanel Crescendo (250) (LE, $45.00) is pinker. MAC Secret Admirer (LE, $22.00) is a cream product. Tarte Pampered (LE, $26.00) is lighter. MAC Fleeting Romance (P, $23.50) is warmer, more orange. Tarte Irreplaceable (LE, $26.00) is pinker. Tarte Bashful (LE, $26.00) is similar. Gucci Beauty Coral Flower (P, $49.00) is similar. Surratt Beauty Ponceau (P, $32.00) is darker. Guerlain Coral Blush (LE) is darker. Tarte True Love (P, $26.00) is similar. Tarte Crave (LE, $26.00) is similar. Too Faced Melt Into Spring (LE) is similar. NYX Summer Peach (P, $5.00) is similar. NYX Pinched (P, $5.00) is darker. NYX Peach (P, $5.00) is a smidgen lighter. NARS Amour (P, $30.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

The collection will be available online on May 14th and in-stores on May 21st.

Pleasantly surprised by your grades. These are getting much better reviews and grades then I thought they would. After looking at your swatches and picture I am interested in the crisp white now. Which one would you pick for fair skin? It seems like hipness is a little bit too pink, not sure.

I liked the swatch of Hipness but I think it applies too dark for me and if it’s hard to blend… I’ll pass. Looking forward to the bronzer reviews 🙂

This doesn’t have much to do with this post. But I’ve heard through the grapevine that a highlighter by wet n wild is a dupe for MAC’s whisper of guilt. I have WOG but it’s literally on its last leg. So I picked up the highlighter called Hollywood Blvd from the drugstore a few days ago and after I brought it home I swatched it next to WOG and they’re basically identical. I just wanted to ask if you could do a review of Hollywood Blvd and compare the two just because I’ve probably spent close to $200 on highlighters look for WOG dupes, and I’ve found some great products along the way, but this one is definitely the closest and the least expensive! So I just wanted to try and save some people the time and the money.

I’m going to leave these two blushes alone. The one is too light and Hipness doesn’t blend easily. Besides me already having Nyx Pinched and Nars Orgasm, both of which blend nicely and look really nice on me. Too bad Hipness had those issues!

Well, Hipness is the sort of pink-coral that ends up emphasising redness in my face, so that’s a big no. I like Crisp Whites, though. I like Freshen Up better, but I’d settle for the blush if need be!

It is funny, because the description MAC uses for it ALWAYS throws me off (“peach”), so I’m like, “Wait, why is this so pink??” Though I remember it as coral-y color, and then when I compare them, they’re like sisters. They’re very close in tone and color, but the Fafi version is lighter, which is only more noticeable because the version in this collection seems more prone to darkening on the skin.

I am in love w/ the packaging from this collection, but not really impressed by the selection of colours there are. I was thinking of getting Hipness, but I don’t know if it would show up on my nc50 skin tone

This swatch of hipness looks so much pinker than the swatch from Marine Life in 2010. I missed the boat back then, but I’m not sure I’m interested if this one is difficult to blend.

Which dupes to Hipness do you think are most similar to the Hipness shade from To The Beach? I’ve been wanting Hipness from TTB for so long so I’m disappointed the product underperformed and it’s not the same shade! Blagh to MAC! Thanks for the honest review Christine! 🙂

Savannah Avatar

Meh, disappointing. I have uneven skin texture on my cheeks and I need a blush that isn’t a total pain to work with. If it’s that bad on your nice skin, it’s going to be a nightmare on mine. I guess I dodged a bullet though.

How does Hipness compare to Mighty Aphrodite from the WW Collection? It looks kinda close. I’ve been looking for something comparable and I’m almost out of MA, and MAC said they are not planning on releasing it again.

Hello Christine!
Thanks for the great review, I’m kind of disappointed with this collection, products aren’t that great at all, I think mac is abussing of the “cute packaging compulsive buyer” more focused on collectors than actual make up users. I have a question how does the crips white blush compares to the Linda blush by Julia petit ? I have that last blush and they look similar, maybe it’s a bit darker ? Let me know, thanks !

Cindy Avatar

Theyre so pretty! I wanted both crisp whites and freshen up, but they look so similar now. If one was to only buy one of them which would you recommend?

Shannon Avatar

I purchased Hipness Blush when I came onto Nordstrom.com. Beautiful blush but I’m not sure why it’s considered a frost on the packaging because it’s not.
