MAC Uniformly Fabulous & Young Attitude Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolours Reviews, Photos, Swatches

Uniformly Fabulous
MAC Uniformly Fabulous Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a blackened purple with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff, though it was not opaque, in a single layer. The texture was smooth, thinner but not watery, and spread easily across the lips for even coverage. It dried down and did not appear “cracked” when I smiled. This shade wore well for eight hours but was drying.
The Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour formula is supposed to be pigmented, last eight hours, and be “non-feathering.” They are typically pigmented and long-wearing, but the quality of the formula is all over the place–some shades wear down evenly, aren’t too drying, and apply well, while other shades are patchy, streaky, or prone to flaking (and also terribly drying!).

Formula Overview
$21.00/0.17 oz. - $123.53 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "long-wearing" with "pigment-soaked, liquid colour" in the "mattest matte finish." The brand stated that it should wear for "8 hours" and be "non-feathering, non-bleeding." The majority of shades in the formula are opaque in a single layer, and for the most part, I felt like more was on the applicator than necessary for an even, opaque layer of product on my lips.
Sometimes, with richer and less forgiving shades (e.g. more contrast), I found it imperative to remove some from the applicator prior to applying so I didn't get too much product along the edges. Some shades applied smoothly and dried down that way, while other shades dried down and separated more noticeably along deeper lip lines, so it really was shade-dependent.
The formula was quick to dry down, was somewhat flexible, and lightweight to wear. The formula was mostly non-drying with a few, thicker shades feeling a little more drying over time. Many shades lasted six hours or longer with some definitely meeting the brand's "8 hour" wear claim.
They had a subtle vanilla scent but no discernible taste.

Young Attitude
MAC Young Attitude Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is a deep, bluish teal with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. The formula was thin and a little watery, so the color did not apply as evenly as a lot of the shades from the range have. It had a tendency to appear a little streaky with some areas appearing darker than others. It had semi-opaque coverage, and a second layer would be doable without causing texture/wear issues later on. This shade lasted for seven hours but faded more noticeably from the center of the mouth, while the formula was drying. It did leave a bluish stain behind.

UGH…totally not for me!
Money saved 🙂
Uniformly Fabulous is gorgeous!! And it rated really well, but it’s always nice to see a super dark color that isn’t streaky.
Sad that Young Attitude didn’t do as well as it seems like a really pretty and unique color. I love it paired with your eye look Christine!
Thank you, Aj!
Oh my, love Uniformly Fabulous!! How did it wear down for you Christine? The worse is when it just disappears in the middle/inner rim of the lip especially if it’s a dark color. Also, is this one of those formulas you have to take off the whole thing for touch up purposes?
I would say it depends on how long you wear it for and what you’ve eaten. You might be able to touch up here and there!
I so love the color of Young Attitude!!!! I wish it had gotten a better grade! (Or that there was a close dupe in a regular lipstick!!)
Me too! I wish it was better for sure!
While I have no clue how often I’d be able to wear such a unconventional lip color, I am loving the look of Young Attitude!
It’s a cool color!
Oh gosh! I love the color of Young Attitude, but I have to turn it and the other shade down after seeing that both are drying. But I may just have to accept that 95% of dry-down lipsticks will never work with my combination of tactile issues and dry (to me) lips.
Your lips are better off 😉
Oh you are rockin’ Uniformly Fabulous!
Thanks a lot!
I like how unique Young Attitude is!
Me too! 🙂
I LOVE them both SO MUCH!!! oh my GOSH.
Uh oh! 🙂
MAC Young Attitude I haven’t confirmed the shade yet in person reminds me of the LE shade Peacock from Lime Crime as well. It’s s shame on the formula though as it being a permanent one make sit more of a viable option for blue based teals on the market.
I wish it was a bit better as it is a really neat shade!
I love these colors! I’m glad to hear a second layer of Young Attitude would work. I don’t mind doing as second layer, as long as it doesn’t mess up the first.
They are fun!
God, I really need to get into wearing Bite Squid Ink! I bought it for Christmas but have yet to wear it.
Also, I love these colors, too bad about the formula though.
You need to wear it!!
Young Attitude is beautful! I wish it had been better; it’s the one I wanted the most! Money saved.
Same here, Tammy!
Goodness, I love Uniformly Fabulous. I’ve bee looking for this exact color and coverage. I’m just so sad that its from Mac, because they test on animals and I don’t buy their products. I wish they both had a closer dupe, because I would snatch those up!
