MAC Bonsai Bloom Huggable Lipcolour
Now available online (originally slated for a June 2nd launch; in-store date is June 9th on my press release!), there are new, limited edition shades (along with some repromotes) of MAC Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.), which is described as a hydrating, “gel-like lipstick with rich, glossy shine” that wears for “six hours.” The formula tends to be semi-sheer to semi-opaque with moderate shine, lightly clingy (not in an uncomfortable way, but it wears longer than more slippery formulas) with decent wear (four to five hours) and light to moderate hydration. It is the type of formula that feels denser in the tube and softens as it “melts” against the warmth of the lips. I’ve also noticed that some shades self-level after a minute or so after being applied. I think they’re best suited for someone who likes sheerer lipsticks that are comfortable but not slippery and wants some hydration.
MAC Bonsai Bloom Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “cool nude-pink.” It’s a muted, medium rosy pink with subtle, cooler undertones and a fine, gold pearl and light shine. It had medium coverage, and as it is a color naturally more similar to my lip color, it may look wildly different from to person as the natural lip color comes through a lot. The texture was thin, lightweight, and sat fairly well on the lips. The color went on evenly and lasted for four hours. I found it lightly hydrating overall. Tom Ford Beauty Alicia (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Clinique Pink Honey (PiP, $15.00) is warmer (95% similar). Guerlain Kiss Blossom (LE, $37.00) is more pigmented, cooler (90% similar). NARS Orgasm (P, $28.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Conte (202) (P, $37.00) is more shimmery, more pigmented, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Bryan (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (85% similar). Pat McGrath Love Supreme (P, $40.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC Babetown (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Guerlain Gemma (DC, $58.00) is more shimmery, darker, more pigmented (85% similar). ColourPop Juice Bar (LE, $7.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (80% similar). MAC Cantonese Carnation Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “warm rose.” It’s a medium-dark rosy pink with subtle, cooler undertones and a fine, gold pearl. It had semi-opaque coverage that went on evenly and allowed the natural lip color to still come through. The consistency was lightweight but had enough suspension in it that the glossier texture didn’t sit in lip lines noticeably. This shade lasted for four and a half hours on me and was lightly hydrating. MAC Love Beam (LE, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC I'm Game (LE, $20.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Chanel Eblouissante (165) (P, $45.00) is warmer (85% similar). Guerlain Madame Reve (862) (DC, $58.00) is cooler (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Raspberry Shimmer (1) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, lighter, brighter (85% similar). Chanel Etourdie (98) (P, $37.00) is warmer (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Good Luck Mochi Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “rosy mid-tone pink.” It’s a medium-dark, slightly brighter, pink with subtle, warm undertones and a creamy finish. This shade didn’t have pearl like a lot of the other Huggables. It had more coverage–closer to truly semi-opaque–but color pulled into lip lines a bit, and it did not seem to go on as evenly. This shade lasted for four hours on me and was lightly hydrating. Laura Mercier Raspberry Ripple (P, $25.00) is more muted, cooler (90% similar). MAC Little Buddha (P, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, more pigmented (90% similar). Bobbi Brown Spring Pink (DC, $37.00) is brighter, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Brave (P, $19.00) is less glossy (90% similar). Givenchy Rose Boudoir (204) (P, $36.00) is brighter, warmer (80% similar). Chanel Edith (424) (P, $37.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Estee Lauder Ambitious Pink (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter, more pigmented (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Origami Orange Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “creamy orange.” It’s a slightly muted, medium rosy coral with fine, light pink pearl. It’s a lot more interesting than “creamy orange” would indicate! The texture was lightweight, balmy but not too slippery, and glided on easily while laying down smooth, even, and mostly opaque coverage. This shade lasted for five and a half hours and was moderately hydrating. Tom Ford Beauty Les Mepris (LE, $52.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). Givenchy Wanted Coral (16) (P, $34.00) is warmer (90% similar). Estee Lauder Bad Angel (330) (P, $32.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Something Wild (46) (P, $57.00) is darker, less glossy (90% similar). Chanel Rouge Brulant (191) (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Flocking Fabulous (LE, $19.00) is cooler (90% similar). Dior Diorosphere (649) (P, $37.00) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). YSL Orange Crepe (82) (P, $38.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Three Wise Girls (401) (P, $42.00) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Grace (LE, $36.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). MAC Pretty Boy (P, $19.00) is warmer (85% similar). YSL Rocking Coral (5) (LE, $38.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (85% similar). Christian Louboutin Beaute Miss Loubi (P, $90.00) is less shimmery, lighter, brighter (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cherry (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). Guerlain Rouge Sensuel (DC, $58.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). NYX Rags to Riches (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). NARS Niagara (P, $26.00) is less shimmery, lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Lady at Play (P, $25.00) is less shimmery, warmer, less glossy (85% similar). Pat McGrath Emmanuelle (P, $40.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Mia (LE, $36.00) is less shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
MAC Seoul-ful Huggable Lipcolour ($20.00 for 0.11 oz.) is described as a “light, creamy pink.” It’s a medium rosy pink with warm undertones and fine pearl. It had mostly opaque coverage, though bits of the natural lip color will peek through, with a milkier consistency than the other shades. This one applied mostly evenly, but there was a little color that settled into lip lines. This shade wore well for four and a half hours and was hydrating. MAC Sunny Seoul (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). L'Oreal I Pink You're Cute (175) (P, $8.99) is less glossy (90% similar). Chanel Fleurie (139) (LE, $45.00) is warmer (90% similar). Chanel Edith (424) (P, $37.00) is warmer (90% similar). MAC Little Buddha (P, $19.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Paul (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). NARS Summer Fire (LE, $28.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Bobbi Brown Spring Pink (DC, $37.00) is darker, more pigmented (85% similar). Guerlain Georgia (DC, $58.00) is warmer (85% similar). Laura Mercier Raspberry Ripple (P, $25.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). YSL Caress Pink (9) (P, $34.00) is brighter, more pigmented (85% similar). Pretty and great for summer! Does anyone know what is the difference between these and their patentpolish lip pencils (other than the packaging)?
The texture is very different, IMO! Patentpolish is much thinner and has a lot more slip!
I’m liking these, especially Cantonese Carnation and Oragami Orange. The orange just seems like it might be wearable for me.
Origami Orange reminds me of some of the really bright corals but in a much more muted and toned-down fashion.
I’m really liking Origami Orange, and since you recommend it I’m tempted to add it to my collection! But one of our cars just broke down, so my budget is probably going to be non-existent for a while :/
Oh, your poor car! I hope you’re able to get it running again soon!
Doesn’t look like it. According to the mechanic the engine is dead, and considering the age of the car, it’s not worth replacing it. 🙁
I’m so sorry to hear that, Lulle! My sister recently faced a similar issue (cost to fix it vs. age/value of the car), and I know it was really hard on her to make the decision to let the car go 🙁
These are easy skips for me. Either too sheer and/or the color doesn’t apply or settle evenly. There’s way better formulas out there for less than $20
Yay! Money saved 😀
You look so fresh and pretty, like a spring flower!
Thank you, AmyD!
I tried one of the older ones and it was opaque enough for my liking, but the formula wasn’t anything special. Do you feel like they have improved?
The formula feels the same to me!
These ALL look absolutely glorious on you! That’s the distinct advantage to having lighter or less pigmeted lips: you can wear sheer shades, as well as everything else, with equal aplomb. I love sheer lipsticks, especially during summer, but my lips have strong color to them. And not a nice pretty pink or red pigment to them, either. But I will most definitely try Origami-Orange and Cantonese Carnation on. Both are stunners. Here’s hoping one works!
Thank you so much, Nancy!
I think only origami orange will be a colour for me. Really sheer pinks don’t Look Good on me. This is dissapointing because I Love the huggable formula. But so I will Save Money which I Need for the new urban decay lipsticks (wishlist is sooooo Long).
I was surprised that these weren’t quite as pigmented (in general) as the last release!
Yes, I Love Fashion Force for example.
They all look so pretty on you Christine! I’m loving Seoul- ful most right now- but the shades are very Asian inspired I think. Guess that’s why the names are what they are huh? Count me in for a few- Thanks for the swatches!
My pleasure as always, Trish!
Very nice for summer! Origami Orange looks gorgeous!
It does!
Carnation and Origami Orange are quite pretty! Most of these are pigmented than I expected.
The Huggables are definitely a more pigmented formula!
Origami Orange? Well I just haaaave to have that one, what a fun name and what a nice color 🙂
Enjoy it!
These make your lips look really healthy! I might take a peek at these at some point. All of a sudden I really like sheer, moisturizing lip colors. I picked up a Sheer Revolution lipstick and I’m OBSESSED with it; I really feel like a whole world has opened up to me now! I used to only wear bright, matte lipsticks. I’m ready to delve into the sheer side I think!
They are comfortable to wear! I like more of the last release of shades than these, though.
You look especially happy in these pictures 🙂 Is it the joy of wearing something comfortable after so many months of matte liquid lipsticks? lol
Thank you, A! 🙂 I’m sure it’s just an illusion – I’m not really someone who has mood changes!
Great to see the swatches, Christine! Huggable lip colour is one of my favourite lipsticks formulations. I’m really looking forward to checking these out when they are released in the UK.
Happy to share, Saira!
I ordered Origami Orange yesterday (free express shipping too!) based on seeing it on you. At last I think I might have found an orangish colour I can wear. I have tried several but my skin has a definite olive tone that makes it tough sometimes.
Fingers crossed it works well for your coloring, Stephanie 😀
Usually if it looks good on you, it looks good on me. Similar colouring most if the year. I’m greener in the winter though.
Decisions, decisions! I really like these shades. I’m on a pick 1 and be happy you got it budget tho lol tough times at the BBon residence :/
It’ll be a tough choice! Which one are you leaning towards?
I decided on Cantonese Carnation. Origami Orange tho! That’s the first orange lipstick to tempt me. I’m hoping it’ll stick around a bit. Idk why but for this summer I’m really feeling the semi-opaque and sheer makeup. But orange? I’m really growing lol
Growth is good 😀
