MAC RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday 2013 Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, & Swatches

MAC Bad Girl RiRi Lipstick
MAC RiRi Hearts MAC Lipsticks

MAC Bad Girl RiRi Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte taupey nude [with a Matte finish].” It’s a medium-dark, rosy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich, opaque color coverage, and the consistency was just lightly creamy–enough that it didn’t tug or pull at the lips much but still left a matte finish behind.  It wore well for five and a half hours and was neither drying nor hydrating. It’s nothing like Nude from the fall collection. Bobbi Brown Soft Nude (P, $24.00) is glossier. MAC Spice (LE, $15.00) is not quite as warm-toned and has a sheen but is still very similar. MAC Shanghai Spice (LE, $15.00) is lighter, less matte. MAC Double Shot (P, $15.00) is browner, less matte. MAC Brick-o-la (P, $15.00) is pinker. Guerlain Avarice (P, $49.50) is similar. Burberry Antique Pink (303) (P, $30.00) is lighter just a smidgen. Bobbi Brown Uber Nude (P, $24.00) is browner, less matte. See comparison swatches.

MAC Pleasure Bomb Lipstick ($16.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte fuchsia [with a Matte finish].” It’s a vibrant, brightened fuchsia with some red and cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had extremely good pigmentation, and it gave full color coverage when applied. The consistency was, again, creamy enough so it didn’t drag much on lips (just a tiny bit) and left behind a matte finish from the get-go. This shade will basically last until you remove it–it’s very, very long-wearing but it starts to get a bit drying after six hours of wear.  Guerlain Provocative (863) (LE, $49.50) is warmer, redder. MAC All Fired Up (P, $15.00) is redder. Givenchy Fuchsia Irresistible (205) (P, $36.00) is less matte. MAC Moxie (LE, $15.00) is a smidgen more fuchsia. MAC Lickable (P, $15.00) is less matte. MAC Impassioned (P, $15.00) is similar. MAC Girl About Town (P, $15.00) is a touch bluer-based, less matte. Guerlain Gigi (P, $49.50) is less matte. Guerlain Champs-Elysees (P, $35.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches.

The MAC x RiRi Hearts MAC Holiday Collection launches in December. The collection also repromotes RiRi Woo (review here).  I don’t have a specific date yet, and as soon as I do, you’ll see me update the collection’s official information post. Your best bet is to catch me on Twitter or Facebook, as I usually make a mention on social media first 🙂

I’m such a sucker for packaging! I LOVE this! Even though I already have Mac Girl bout town, and you did mention it as a possible similar shade, I might just wanna pick it up because of the packaging=P

Kristin Avatar

OMG OMG YAY YAY YAY!!!! MINE i never got riri woo i may finally break down and get it as i dont currently own any reds. Russian Red was always my fave i went thru atleast 4 tubes in five years and never got a red again as i had this idea it made my lips look little and thin. BUT im finding myself drawn to them again.

beck Avatar

bad girl reminds me enough of Honeylove
and pleasurebomb reminds me enough of
Love Goddess except more matte in appearance.
Pleasurebomb will fly I imagine.

divinem1 (Melissa) Avatar

I like the packaging, but none of the colors call to me, plus I really dislike Rihanna’s choice to flaunt her reunion with an abusive partner. This will be another pass.

xamyx Avatar

From what I understand, it was an isolated incident, instigated by her (meaning she struck first), and there was mutual combat. Also, here in the US, our Justice System is predicated on rehabilitation/reformation, and to my knowledge, he has not reoffended, and has completed his sentence. She has apparently let it go, so we should, too.

Besides, the collection is by MAC, and aside from MAC placing her name on the products, and having already paid her for that, she had absolutely nothing to do with the collections.

Amy Avatar

Comments about this really have no business on this site, but your response is appalling.

“From what I understand, it was an isolated incident, instigated by her (meaning she struck first), and there was mutual combat.”

I suggest you read the police report; he nearly killed her. I’m not exaggerating, he literally almost choked her to death, after first punching, elbowing, and biting her. Someone striking first does not give you the green light to nearly kill them. Self defense means employing the least amount of force necessary to neutralize your attacker. What he did was not self defense, it was retaliation and a loss of control. He has not once expressed remorse for his actions, but instead painted himself as the victim and gone on to show aggressiveness several times since then. Just because a woman trapped in the cycle of abuse forgave him doesn’t mean the rest of us should.

Check yourself, seriously.

I’m so bored of this damned RiRi stuff. I’m not a fan of her particularly, and it would have to be an exceptional product to make me buy something with her name emblazoned on it, and they’ve been overselling her stuff ALL YEAR. Give it a rest MAC! ¬.¬ Pleasure Bomb is pretty, but I have Moxie and Quick Sizzle, so I don’t need it at all!!

Christine Avatar

Hmm.. I actually think they have been underselling the stuff in the sense they created artificial scarcity. I wanted lipsticks of all instalments, and being one that will not stalk the site around midnight and will not queue in front of shops, I did not stand the slightest chance of getting even just one product.

I find that frustrating, actually. I can get the idea a brand would want to create buzz by promoting constant sellouts.

But Mac also disappoints loyal customers repeatedly with this release’s strategy – when there’s no real chance of getting products fantastic blogs like Temptalia have gotten you into, that is a brand I’ll rather downgrade from my top ranks. And will get less, not more inclined to run after their LE products in the future. There’s too many alternatives to queue for artificial scarcity and essentially make a marketing victim out of oneself.

beck Avatar

Yes I agree. I did’nt get anything not a fan.
i’m getting tired of the price hikes, i’d
rather spend the money on another high end brand
like UD,Nars,Hourglass,Chanel, Guerlain etc.
where I don’t have to chase things around etc.
I mean 18.00 for a nail polish from MAC is
getting ridiculous to me.

xamyx Avatar

Not only does it turn me off from the LE products, it just makes me stay away from the brand altogether. My local mall has 2nSephora’s & an Ulta, as well as Macy’s (which has recently started carrying Inglot, as well), so I find it rather easy to simply walk past the MAC counter.

suedechik79 Avatar

You literally only end up being able to buy one or maybe two Riri products (best shot at Riri Woo) and it takes hours of staring at the computer. I tried with both releases. Fool me once, shame on them, fool me twice, and I accept responsibility for my waste of time. Im not doing it again.

Ms.Reyes Avatar

Well, I’m new to lipsticks and decided I really wanted these due to the packaging and this review. I went to the website at midnight and it said the sale would start in 12 hrs. At 12pm est I refreshed the page and easily bought a set. It was so easy I tried to see if I could purchase another set, which I did. I do understand what you guys are saying about creating hype. I mean from a marketing stand point it’s genius but it also is a double edged sword as it puts customers off when they aren’t able to actually get the products. I did, however, have less luck when the products launched at other stores and I tried to purchase other products I decided I wanted. Their sites were slow and inconsistent with launch times for the sales.

Angel Avatar

I like both colors. I think the nudish color will look great on me 🙂 But, as far as the fuchsia goes, I’m torn. I have Moxie, Girl About Town, AND Impassioned. I really can’t justify buying this lippie based off the color alone. But… the packaging. THE PACKAGING! Is beyond cute, and i’m a sucker for some cute, girly, fun, eye-catching packing. What to do, what to do?

Lourdes Avatar

I kept telling myself I was skipping this collection…..I should now better than to lie to myself lol. Looks like for sure I’ll be getting the lipsticks & maybe a Riri Woo backup (I want the packaging lol). The colors look great on you!

Saira Avatar

Hey there,
Both of the lippies look amazing on you. I wanted to know how similar is Pleasure Bomb lipstick to the Maybelline color sensational lipstick in Vivid Rose. Thanks

Erika Avatar

I really love the two new shades (especially Bad Gal RiRi—I just HAVE to have it!), but would it be a waste to get Pleasure Bomb if I already have Lickable, Girl About Town, Impassioned, and All Fired Up? I mean, I’ve always wanted to get Moxie back then (except I don’t remember if this was before I got the first three shades I mentioned)… 😆

Oh and BTW Christine, you didn’t mention it, but how does Pleasure Bomb compare to Embrace Me?

Sheena Avatar

Do try them if you get a chance. They are perfectly matte. And apply more opaque compared to mac retro matte lipsticks. Of course you can layer them and they give 6-8 hours of wear. In terms of quality and formulation they are amazing but the only downside is there are only 3 colors all of which are great colors

dayna Avatar

Ugh, these are literally the only things I thought I would be getting from this collection. The fact that the 3 are all SO dupe-able disappoints me. I’m not going to rush or stalk a website for lipsticks that I can easily buy similar products of during the rest of the year. None of the lipsticks from all three of these Rihanna collections caught my attention. Oh well, on to the next collection.

Kelly Avatar

WOw do I really want that Pleasure Bomb. Gorgeous shade. I’m so in love with the lipsticks of the Riri collections. Being a girl who much prefers a bold lip to a neutral lip, they’re perfect. The formula is so long lasting as well <3

ana Avatar

Would you say that Bad Girl Riri would look nice on cool/neutral (NC15 in the winter and NC 25 with a tan) skin tone? I’m so iffy with this one. Riri Nude looks great on me but warm nudes tend make me look yellowish. Thanks! 🙂

Jay Avatar

Hi Christine,

How well suited do you think these two colours are for dark-deep brown skin tones? I know Riri woo, Nude and TTT has been described as flattering for WOC. Dying to know!

pucci Avatar

hi christine how does pleasure bomb compare to flat out fabulous? both retro matte right, is it still worth buying even if i have the latter already? thanks! love the colours on you as always! 🙂

Jammee Avatar

Christine, I totally missed out on Pleasure Bomb because my local MAC only had 2 in stock. How crazy is that? I was there for the opening too. Anyways, is Impassioned the closest to it?

Tara Avatar

Hi Christine,
Apparently I missed out on Pleasure Bomb. I was looking at your swatch gallery at comparable dupes, it’s kinda hard to identify what is closest, would you mind giving me your opinion? I want the closest color to Pleasure Bomb, as it is so gorgeous. What are your thoughts on the closest colors?
Thank you so much! And Happy New Year! 🙂

Tara Avatar

Thank you so much for your reply! And for everything you do. I don’t comment a lot, but I enjoy your site so so much. Happy New Year! 🙂

Janique-ka John Avatar

I had no problems whatsoever purchasing any of the lipsticks… the only one i couldnt get my hands on was the very first ririwoo launch.. and by the second time around i knew what i had to do. I got ririwoo, talk that talk and Pleasure bomb since those are the only ones I was interested in.

sheena Avatar

Hi christine! I wanna know how does pleasure bomb compare to lime crime velvetines in pink velvet. Would it be a good dupe? I have all fired up but it’s not the same as pleasure bomb. I really want pleasure bomb or a dupe from a good brand that is matte and exact
