MAC Pretty Natural Lip Kit Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Pretty Natural Lip Kit
MAC Pretty Natural Lip Kit ($29.50 for 0.31 oz.) is a pinky-beige set of shades, all in full-size, so this is one of the better value kits from Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale. The set of shades works well together, and for what they are, they are decent. I find MAC’s Lip Pencil formula to be harder to apply as it is quite stiff/firm, and it is quite drying. The lipstick was the best of the set.
Pretty Natural is described as a “midtone warm nude.” It’s a light-medium, pinky-beige with warm undertones and a satiny sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that went on fairly evenly, though the color had a tendency to pull into lip lines (which worsened as it wore). The texture was creamy and glided on without tugging, while the color itself lasted for four hours and was neither hydrating nor drying. MAC High Tea (P, $16.00) is more shimmery, lighter. MAC Japanese Maple (LE, $16.00) is lighter. MAC Love Happens (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler. MAC Naked Dream (LE, $16.00) is cooler, less glossy. MAC Boca (LE, $16.00) is darker, cooler. Marc Jacobs Beauty Roleplay (110) (P, $30.00) is darker. Charlotte Tilbury Confession (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery, darker. Bobbi Brown Blush (P, $26.00) is darker. MAC Wear with Flare (LE, $22.00) is brighter, warmer. MAC Wear with Flare (LE, $22.00) is brighter, warmer. NARS Barbara (P, $32.00) is darker. Guerlain Galiane (15) (P, $51.00) is glossier. Feeling Fine is described as a “soft beigey pink with pearl.” It’s a light, pink-beige with multi-colored shimmer (a mix of lavender, gold, white, and pink). On the lips, it is sheer, so it doesn’t add a lot of color, and I noticed the lighter base color was visibly lightening my natural lip color while adding noticeable shimmer–but your mileage will vary a lot on this one, as it will depend vastly on your natural lip color. The gloss had a light-medium weight to it, was tacky, and stayed put for three hours. This shade has been released previously (but has always been a limited edition shade). L’Oreal Pretty Precious (LE, $9.99) is less glossy. MAC Dressed to Dazzle (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. Chanel Star (LE, $29.50) is lighter. Maybelline A Wink of Pink (P, $4.49) is less shimmery, darker, more pigmented. Marc Jacobs Beauty Love Buzz (324) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery, warmer. Revlon Snow Pink (P, $7.99) is more pigmented. MAC Boundless Beige (P, $19.50) is lighter. MAC Rags to Riches (P, $20.00) is more shimmery. MAC Poetic (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, less pigmented. MAC Lovingly Yours (P, $22.00) is less shimmery, more pigmented. Bobbi Brown Rose (LE, $24.00) is cooler. MAC Steel Kiss (LE, $15.00) is more shimmery. NARS Bimini (P, $26.00) is more shimmery. MAC Oh My Darling (LE, $15.00) is less shimmery. Dior No Angel (353) (P, $29.50) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.
Subculture is described as am “underground pink.” It’s a muted, medium peachy-brown with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had a dryer, firmer consistency which really needs firm pressure to achieve color coverage. I’m not a big fan of the standard MAC Lip Pencil formula as I find them hard to use all-over the lips and mildly tolerable along just the edges of the lips. This is part of the permanent range. It lasted for six hours but is pretty drying on its own. MAC Boldly Bare (P, ) is lighter, brighter, warmer. MAC Boldly Bare (P, ) is lighter, brighter, warmer. MAC Nice ‘n’ Spicy (P, $19.50) is darker, cooler. MAC Etcetera (P, $19.50) is darker, cooler. MAC Have to Have It (LE, ) is cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

That’s a really great deal! But unless you’re new to makeup the colors are pretty dupable.
True!
I definitely like the lipstick. Wouldn’t necessarily buy the kit for it though.
I hear ya!
I ordered this and the other Mac lip set(I bought the other for the gloss and pencil-gifting the lippie as I have it) in my 3rd round of shopping this sale since my surgery, lol! The reviews online are 5 stars and it is actually backordered. So, knowing Nordstrom, I may not ever in reality receive it. After reading this review, I won’t be upset if I don’t as long as they don’t charge me. I like the lipstick and the gloss used individually. I have no other mac lip pencils..this pencil doesn’t look good! I got the other set for the Heroin pencil because I have none like it and I do use a liner a lot. I was hoping that the three products layered would resemble the photo on the promo pic. But, the gloss is kinda melting the lipstick. That drives me batty! Now I want to return it!
Aww! I don’t know whether to root for your order or not, lol!
Such a nice bargain, and it does make for a really pretty nude lip when all 3 products are used together! I actually wanted this one, however, I think it may be too light on me. After all, Maybelline Blushing Bud, MAC Pure Zen and Velvet Teddy are all rather light on my lips and as a result, always need a darker lipliner and gloss to work. Then again….so tempted because this has those. Subculture is too light for me I think, though.
It’s not a bad deal if you would use ’em all, but otherwise it may be a skip.
I love the way these look on you. They’d look crazy on me!
Thanks, Vijaya!
These colors are right up my alley, but if I’m not mistaken, the lipgloss is a repromote from the nude Look in a Box MAC had last year for the Anniversary sale, in which case I already have it. And if it isn’t, it looks similar enough for me to resist 🙂 And I also find MAC’s regular lip pencil formula to be a bit stiff and drying but I have Spice because it’s a pretty good go-with-everything color (I’m wearing it now). I prefer their cremestick liner formula, but it only comes in 4 colors 🙁 The lipstick is very pretty though.
I think it is, but I know it came out before.
I love the lipstick!
Yay!
I like the shade of the lipstick and the coverage but I couldn’t pull the shade off. Perfect for a smoky eye look with warm toned skin though.
It would be a great lip with a smoky eye – good call!
Pretty colors but it would be chalky on me. In addition, I have so many lipsticks that I don’t need more. I use UD Ozone lip liner/primer and like it. It is white in the pencil but applies almost clear.
Ozone is great!
That looks like the perfect lipstick shade! Thanks for the swatches 🙂
No problem!
I love the colour of Mac subculture but the one I have is sooo ridiculously stiff and dry, but a friend of mine has it and says hers is not stiff at all. So annoying
Your friend is so lucky, lol! You and I have to suffer 🙁
My lips feel dry just looking at the lip pencil swatches. How does Kylie Jenner even pull off this Mac lip pencil without ending up with a desert mouth!?
Maybe primer or a little lip balm 🙂
The lipstick and gloss are very pretty. I hate stiff lip pencil formulas. Ugh.
Same 🙁
I LOVE Subculture! Easily one of my favorite pencils (and products in general) from… MAC (there was a slight pause as I was trying to think of what I really wanted to call them LOL) I wear this all the time in videos… Love love love!!!!
I can only line with them, but they are just so stiff for totally filling in lips for me!
The lipstick is right up my alley, but Subculture lipliner simply sucks. It is so dry, it tugs on your lips so much it hurts… It is not drying on my lips though and it’s a beautiful color.
It is sooooo firm!
The pencil seems to be a great nude, seems to suits to everyone !
The color is great!
It looks great but apart from colors are dupable, probs its too light for me, considering that velvet teddy is the ultimate nude… nice try though.
I could see this being too light then!
This looks like a great natural lip for my skin tone. I went ahead and ordered it but it’s back ordered. What are the chances it will actually arrive? This is my first Nordstrom order.
It really depends – there’s a good chance, but it may not go through.
I really love this!! I have a feeling it would be just perfect on my fair/light skintone. Add this to the list of things to hunt down.
Enjoy it, Jade ;D
