Hocus Focus Colourful Face Kit
MAC Magic, Mirth, & Mischief Review: Face Kits
I like that MAC tried something new – a face palette. I haven’t seen them put out a face palette in quite some time, and the tiered system of this compact is convenient. These palettes actually do have some heft to them, so they’re not ultra lightweight or anything. (I was very surprised at how heavy my bag was when I purchased the palettes in general–sure felt like I was walking out with a lot!) I think at the price range, these feel a little steep. It’s hard to tell just exactly how much product you’re getting of each and if it’s really a better deal than if you bought them separately.
Hocus Focus Colourful Face Kit ($38.00 U.S.)
- Pretty Baby is a soft, powdery pink beauty powder. Beauty powders can be used as all-over powders, blushes, highlighters, etc. It’s really up to you on how you want to use it, and depending on your skin tone, what may be the best use for it. I remember when it launched with the Diana Ross collection and I’d use it everyday, but I couldn’t tell you what it did for my skin/face.
- Sunsparked Pearl is a pearly peach highlighter. It’s one of my favorite MAC highlighters, because it has subtle shimmer and a great “glow” factor. I’ve always felt it worked particularly well on warm skin, but it’s also nice on cooler skin.
- Peachykeen is a peachy-coral blush shade that is available all the time. It’s one of my favorite blushes (MAC has an excellent line of permanent blush shades).
Fab-racadabra Bronze Face Kit ($38.00 U.S.)
- Golden is a golden-brown bronzing shade with subtle gold pearl shimmer.
- Buffed & Polished is a glitzy gilded bronze with golden shimmer. It reads a little chunky shimmer to me, though, so it’s not my favorite to use on the face.
- Sunbasque is a deep bronzy peach. Again, it’s an excellent blush and part of the permanent shade range.
I liked the Hocus Focus Colourful Face Kit best. I think it’s wearable for both warm and cool skin tones, and I think it works well to give you a brighter, glowier look without a fuss. The Fab-racadabra Bronze Face Kit is exactly that–a bronzing kit. Since I’d rather just opt for a single bronzer than a whole kit full, it’s not my thing. I think it may lean too orange for some as well.
- Product: 27/30
- Value: 8/10
- Ease of Use: 4/5
- Packaging: 4/5

I really like the Fab-racadabra face kit,but I didn’t really need another bronzer – one of which looked like chunky glitter on me with no color :S But I did really like the Buffed & Polished blush, the color looked really good one me, I just can’t justify the price for only that blush ;P
Do you have any recommendations for a similar color?
Woops! Think I got the names mixed up and got my answer 😛
Soft & Gentle MSF is kind of similar, more of a paler gold than a peachy gold, though.
Hey Christine,
I know you must be very busy with all the new mac products but i was wondering if you were going to be doing reviews on the holiday eyeshadow palettes? I’m looking to get smoke and mirrors but want to see your review on it before i purchase it online!
Thanks a bunch!
Definitely will be 🙂
wow very beautiful!
Hm, I wasn’t going to get any of these, but I do like Hocus Focus a lot. I’m going to have to see how much it’ll cost in the UK.
Okay – Hocus Focus is the only thing that has moved me. And that’s good considering how broke I’m going to be during the holidays!
I have Peachy Keen and I love it! I bought it at least six years ago and within 5 or 6 months I used it to the pan, since then I retired it for other things but I still have about 1/4 of a pan left. Recently, I started using it again and I am determined to use it all up because I forgot how much I love that colour. I do really like the packaging of the tiered system and all the colours of the face kits are so pretty!
I wasn’t drawn to either actually. I skipped on Hocus Focus since I have Pretty Baby from Hello Kitty and I also have Peachykeen. So no real need to get it just for Sunsparked Pearl. The bronzing kit didn’t make it into my bag either since I have a Golden & Sunbasque. Goodness, I got a lot of stuff!
If I didn’t have Peachykeen I would have bought Hocus Focus. I saw these at the store and they are really cute and compact. I’m excited about the mini pigments!
I love blush I would love to get both of these palettes! Definitely on my Christmas list. The only MAC blush I have is Peaches.
i don’t think there is enough color payoff to warrant the price on these items
Very lovely. I own nothing full size from Hocus Focus and that will be the one I am getting for my skintone. I like the idea of these because I do not wear a lot of face products, and having this with a small collection of shades/types of cheek products in one spot is great! I think they should add these face kits to every holiday collection. 🙂
These colors are not very brown girl friendly 🙁
lol i was just about to ask which would be better for NW45! One of these are the only thing I’m getting from the holiday collection.

Hey, I wanted to know if you tried the new Nars Stylo liners? I can’t seem to find anyone who reviewed them yet….
Nope, haven’t!
I love the first kit. Do you know if Sunbasque is similar to the Nars Orgasm blush?
i got the fab-racadabra, and im nc40..it works well on my skin tone.. but i might get the hocus focus just bcoz of the highlighter and the packaging..lol
