MAC Lovingly Yours Mineralize Glass
MAC Lovingly Yours Mineralize Glass

MAC Lovingly Yours Mineralize Glass ($22.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “pinkish nude.” It’s a rosy, meidum peach with warm undertones and subtle gold shimmer. It lightened and warmed-up my natural lip color, but the natural lip color will strongly influence the way this appears on someone, because it is a sheer gloss. It lasted two and a half hours on me. MAC has put out a lot of shades that look very similar to this, and so have other brands — see comparison swatches.

MAC Modern Romance Mineralize Glass ($22.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “mid-tone cool rose.” It’s a cool-toned, medium pink with blue undertones and pale pink and white shimmer. It had semi-sheer color coverage, but it did settle into lip lines and did not apply evenly. It lasted for almost three hours on me. MAC Got Style! (P, $22.00) is less blue-based, a smidgen darker. Chanel Baie Rose (89) (LE, $27.00) is less shimmery. Milani Pink Lady (07) (P, $5.49) is less shimmery. Maybelline Blush Essence (095) (P, $8.99) is more pigmented. MAC Petite Indulgence (LE, $20.00) is less shimmery. Chanel Insolence (P, $32.00) is less shimmery. See comparison swatches.

MAC Modest Mineralize Glass ($22.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “soft beige.” It’s a light-medium, peachy orange with a sprinkle of goldenrod shimmer. It had semi-sheer pigmentation applied to lips, but being such a pale shade, it did noticeably settle into lip lines. It wore well for almost three hours when I tested it. This is another shade that MAC loves to release often (with varying degrees of shimmer, slightly lighter/darker) — see comparison swatches.

MAC New Love Mineralize Glass ($22.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is described as a “mid-tone berry.” It’s a brightened, cool-toned berry pink with a creamy finish. It had semi-sheer color coverage, and unfortunately, it did not apply evenly. It didn’t seem to settle as much into lip lines as the lighter shades, but it had a splotchy, uneven look when applied. It wore well for almost four hours, though, which is a little longer than the others in this review. Revlon Sugar Violet (P, $7.99) is sheerer. Revlon Berry Allure (P, $7.99) is very similar. MAC Call Me Gorgeous (LE, $20.00) is brighter. Burberry Hibiscus (P, $27.00) is warmer. Bobbi Brown Electric Violet (P, $24.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches.

MAC Mineralize Glass ($22.00 for 0.20 fl. oz.) is a new–and permanent!–lip gloss from MAC that heads to counters on March 6th but can be purchased online now. There are twelve shades in total, and this post features four that I tested. The formula is supposed to be hydrating and glossy, while there’s no real word on coverage, the shades are described as “pearlescent.” They feel like lighter-weight Lipglass with less tackiness, but they’re more of a medium-weight gloss with a moderately tacky texture that’s lightly hydrating and wears between two and four hours (depending on the shade). The applicator is a rounded rectangle and feels smoother than the typical doe foot, and it also has more give and flex, so it seems to apply the gloss more evenly. The color coverage seems to run semi-sheer; noticeable color but not fully opaque. I’m not keen on the packaging, as it is bulky and doesn’t store efficiently.

I have one of these, and for me the formula is definitely moisturizing enough. I usually reapply MAC lip glass gloss after an hour or two, but I can wear the Mineralize Glass twice as long before it starts to dry out a bit. It does wear off relatively fast though.

Lovingly yours in more in my shade alley. I’m not the biggest fan of mac’s current formula a bit too sticky. I might check this formulation though sounds promising.

Hey Christine, you recently did new reviews on your old YSL Rouge Voluptes which means you’ve had them for a couple of years, right? If properly looked after, how long do you think a lipstick can last (ie. not expire)?

Hi Ammara,

I’m not a cosmetic scientist or have any scientific background, so “not expire” is really based on what the manufacturer says (to be safe), and anything longer is really at your own risk. A lot of people definitely use cosmetics long after the supposed expiration time and typically look for changes in smell, consistency, color, etc. I sanitize my lipsticks prior to storing them away, and then when I pull one out after awhile, I sanitize again! I generally use disposable lipgloss wands to apply lipgloss (except for the first time I’ve used a new formula to test out the applicator, then I completely wash and clean the applicator before putting it back into the gloss).

Hey Christine,

Have you stopped doing awards season makeup posts? Any chance of re-starting? I really enjoyed them, especially when you included info about products that you have from the artists.
