MAC Light Flashing Ice Extra Dimension Skinfinish Trio Review & Swatches
Light
MAC Light Flashing Ice Extra Dimension Skinfinish Trio ($39.50 for 0.31 oz.) is a new, limited edition trio of highlighters that ranged from bright, silvery white to warmer, light-medium gold. There She Glows had the best texture and was most consistent with the Extra Dimension formula, while the other two felt slightly drier to the touch. The pigmentation ranged from semi-opaque to nearly opaque and was buildable, while longevity was around eight to eight and a half hours.

Glitzed Out
Glitzed Out is a bright, silvery white with a smooth, lightly metallic finish. The glow intensified when layered, so it could get to full, metallic glowing glory with a second or third layer (or applied with a dampened brush).
It had mostly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which was easily built to full coverage with less than a second layer. The consistency was fairly smooth, firm but not stiff to work with, and blendable on my skin but was slightly drier than most shades from this formula. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me.

There She Glows
There She Glows is a light-medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color coverage that adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely. The texture was smooth, blendable, and dense and firm without being stiff, so it picked up well with a dry brush and was easy to work with. There were signs of fading present after eight and a half hours of wear.

Out on the Tinseltown
Out on the Tinseltown is a very light peach with moderate, warm undertones and finer gold and pink pearl. The texture seemed slightly drier and more powdery, which was surprisingly as this gel-powder style formula is rarely powdery (in fact, that’s kind of its signature–blendable without being powdery).
It had semi-opaque, buildable color coverage that just barely added a glow to my skin. I had to layer up the product to get more of a subtle/moderate glow; I will say that it had a bit more glow in person than what was captured in the photos above. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

My thoughts on this highlighter palette? I’d gladly buy There She Glows all by itself! That’s the only shade I love, or even like, in this trio. Hope MAC makes it a permanent shade!
I have completely stopped buying highlighters. I just don’t wear them that often and when I do, I have several that are favorites and work for me so no need for a new one. It would have to be a very unique shade, light enough and with such a wonderful formula, to tempt me.
Same here. But that’s why I liked the darker selection in this release – the darkest, plum shade would have been a perfect blush for me. But the other 2 shades in that one are duds for me and this lighter one – just no point.
A very light set of highlighters that are of good quality – and MAC usually does these well. They are all quite ‘shiny’ and each seems to have its own kind of finish – I do like the metallic gleam of the second shade.
This post really makes you think about the spectra of HL. #1 and #3 have highly overlapping dupes lists, and yet are quite dissimilar.
This is so pretty. I’m a sucker for a white/silver highlight and still kind of want this just for that singular shade. But I can’t justify paying for this – for one shade, that might be less than a third of the total size of the palette – after buying Let it Glow. If it’s on sale and still available after the holidays I make no promises.
I’d be shocked if it sold through before at least one sale event since it seems available at most retailers (not just MAC’s site or something)!
I think it’s interesting – I have last year’s version of this and it’s somewhere between a staple and a holy grail for me, if I had to get rid of all other blush/ highlighters I probably could. This one just doesn’t interest me at all.
