MAC Keepsakes/Smoky Eye Bag Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Keepsakes/Smoky Eye Bag
MAC Keepsakes/Smoky Eye Bag ($39.50 for 0.62 oz.) is a cool-toned set of shades in silver and gray paired with a black eyeliner. The two work together well, though the gray-black is the more unique shade of the two. It includes an Extra Dimension eyeshadow duo (0.14 oz.), In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara (0.44 fl. oz.), and a Powerpoint Eye Pencil (0.04 oz.). Everything in the set is full-sized, and it all fits into a small, glittery, zippered bag. In May, MAC released smaller-sized Extra Dimensions eyeshadows at $19.50/0.04 oz., whereas the duo contains 0.14 oz. in total, so there is a value of $68.25 there, plus $22 for the mascara and $16 for the eyeliner, for a total value of $106.25–so it is an excellent deal if they’re products you would use. Even if you just liked the eyeshadow duo, it is almost the same as what you would have paid on two singles (and you’ll get more–I have no idea how they managed to get more product into the compact, given they’re visually the same size as the singles).
Treasure Me is described as a “light silver.” It’s a brightened pop of silvery white with a frosted finish. Applied dry, it was semi-sheer, and applied damp, it was semi-opaque. It was a little dry and soft enough to be almost crumbly, but it was smoother when applied with a dampened brush. This shade wore well for eight hours before creasing slightly. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Tall, Dark, & Handsome is described as a “soft black with silver sparkle.” It’s a blackened gray with cool, bluish-undertones and a pearly sheen–one of the less frosted shades with this type of formula. It had the same color payoff, which was opaque, both dry and damp, so it doesn’t have a buildable formula. The texture was soft, blendable, and smooth, while the color wore well for eight hours before fading. This is a repromote. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Engraved is described as a “rich black.” It’s a medium-dark black with a matte finish. It had fairly good color payoff in one stroke, and it wore well for eight hours before fading slightly on the lower lash line for me. It’s part of the permanent range. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Oh wow, Tall, Dark, & Handsome is gorgeous :-O Is it available all year round as a mono or a refill as well?
I don’t think any of the Extra Dimension eyeshadows are permanent!
🙁
Tall, Dark & Handsome is beautiful!
It is!
I was waiting from you for these shadows.
Sorry I’m so slow!
Oh, I meant to see you wear this set, not just the swatch set. I know you got many products in queue.
Gotcha! 🙂
I really like Tall, Dark and Handsome. I like the eyeshadows, but the liner is a bit of a downer.
I hear ya!
Let me first of all thank you for your helpful review!
Tall, Dark, & Handsome is pretty beautiful! Love it!
I would like the other shade was another neutral color (pewter, copper, brown, gray, etc.). For me, white isn’t the best pair with black to create a really gorgeous dark smokey eyes. In my opinion, of course.
It’s more of a contrast than I’d reach for myself 🙂
Further to Melissa’s comment…I wonder why they don’t make the extra dimension shadows permanent, as they seem to do so well! I’m sure they’d sell a lot, even just from the people who missed out during the (apparently customary) LE collection release clusterf…uh, struggles.
The greyblack shadow is pretty, but this set’s a bit less exciting than the others. Also, ‘Smokey Eye Bag’ sounds like what you get in the morning when you have a really late night and fall asleep with the remnants of your party eye makeup on… 😉
I kind of feel like anyone we really want them to make permanent, they don’t 🙁
Except for two years later when it’s a lipstick. Maybe.
Another nice set but I don’t need these colours. I do wish MAC would make the Extra Dimension shadows (or the best of them) permanent and also not in such huge containers as they were a few releases ago. I much prefer the smaller sizes (and somewhat smaller price tags) and like the idea of these duos.
It would be awesome if they did the smaller ones as permanent shades!
Tall, dark & Handsome is gorgeous.
It is!
Yay! Some cool toned colours. BUT – I wish the Tall, Dark and Handsome colour was more grey than black, as the eyeliner is black. Sigh.
It seems like the liners are off in the sets!
This set looks very nice! Tall, Dark, & Handsome is beautiful.
It is a really rich shade!
I’m really liking the quality of these sets! Not a fan of the colours, but maybe the other set with the burgundy shades! Tall, Dark, & Handsome is so on point with the name!
Haha! Very true 😉
I’m confused – originally when Tall Dark and Handsome came out you rated it as b+ but now it’s an A in this release – has their been a change from that formula to this?
Hm, I’m not seeing the B+? but I would imagine it was a group rating before if it was, since it was only in the past year or so that we had the technology so I could rate individually etc.
The original review is here (http://www.temptalia.com/mac-glamour-daze-extra-dimension-eyeshadows-reviews-photos-swatches-part-2) and the group grade as A-.
The glossover is here –

Reason I remembered was that I purchased it when it was standalone two years ago and thought that it was actually about what you rated it – a B plus. I was surprised to see it get an A this time around.
It’s auto-populating wrong – because I don’t see it on the actual review post (the original one, which was a group rating). The only thing I can think of is if I wrote the review before MAC released any info on it, because the formula is touted as 6-hour wear, which is unusually realistic (or short) compared to the general long-wear claim. I can’t remember, unfortunately, as that was a couple of years ago.
Tall, Dark, and Handsome is amazing. I’ve been looking for something just like it! Don’t want to give MAC my money though 🙁
Tall, Dark, & Handsome is gorgeous!
