MAC Keepsakes/Brown Eye Bag Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Keepsakes/Brown Eye Bag ($39.50 for 0.62 oz.) is a nice set for anyone who’s a fan of the Extra Dimension eyeshadow formula. The duo performed well, and the included eyeliner is nice (not revolutionary, not bad)–I would have loved to see a smokier, more taupe-hued eyeliner to pair with this, though. The set includes an Extra Dimension eyeshadow duo (0.14 oz.), In Extreme Dimension Lash Mascara (0.44 fl. oz.), and a Powerpoint Eye Pencil (0.04 oz.). Everything in the set is full-sized, and it all fits into a small, glittery, zippered bag. In May, MAC released smaller-sized Extra Dimensions eyeshadows at $19.50/0.04 oz., whereas the duo contains 0.14 oz. in total, so there is a value of $68.25 there, plus $22 for the mascara and $16 for the eyeliner, for a total value of $106.25–so it is an excellent deal if they’re products you would use. Even if you just liked the eyeshadow duo, it is almost the same as what you would have paid on two singles (and you’ll get more–I have no idea how they managed to get more product into the compact, given they’re visually the same size as the singles!). As a FYI, I didn’t review (or include a rating for) the mascara.

Just Gleaming is described as a “peachy nude.” It’s a light, golden beige with a frosted, metallic finish. Applied dry, it had semi-sheer color payoff, and applied damp, it was more opaque and smoother. The consistency was soft and blendable. MAC only listed the wear of the formula as six-hours, and it actually lasts for seven and a half on me. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Stolen Moment is described as a “mauvey nude.” It’s a cool-toned, purple-leaning taupe with hints of brown in the undertone and a frosted finish. It was opaque both wet and dry (not quite the buildable formula as described but might be a welcomed “flaw” for others), but the damp application made it more metallic. It wore well for eight hours on me. This shade has been released previously. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Stubborn Brown is described as a “deep rich brown.” It is a medium-dark brown with a mostly matte finish. It had decent to good pigmentation in a single stroke, while the texture was lightly creamy and didn’t tug at the lash line. On me, it wore eight hours on the lower lash line before thinning. It’s part of the permanent range. See swatches of all dupes / view dupes side-by-side.

Glad to see this got good reviews! It’s really the only thing piquing my interest in the holiday collection so far simply because I wanted both the mascara and eyeliner, so I thought it was a great deal!! I’m more interested in seeing how the Prabal products fare 😉

Now this set I do want. I’d get a lot of use for all the products and I do like the Extra Dimension formula. I have just used up the same mascara that’s included, and I thought it was OK, not the best I’ve tried, but good enough. I’m really glad to see a MAC holiday edition getting a good grade, and one I like enough to want it.

I think I need to visit Sephora and see if I can get a sample of their mascara, or at least try it on in-store. I’m allergic to so many mascaras.

i really love MAC’s extra dimension eyeshadows, and had planned to buy all 3 of the sets, when i heard about the duo’s being part of the holiday collection. i now realize i have many extra dimension eyeshadows, because i own all the repromoted shades, and i have the extra dimension mascara, so, i will not be picking any of these up. i do love stolen moment, and i wear it a lot, so i considered backing it up. but with all the eyeshadows i have,i’m not sure i really need a back-up! my collection is so out of control, and i’m trying really hard to only buy whatever is different from what i already have.

That’s a very nice duo, I especially like Stolen Moment, however, I don’t need a brown eyeliner, another mascara that I might not like, or even the bag. I wish they would sell those duos separately, I’d get the plum duo for sure, and maybe this one. But they would make great gifts to give.

I’m sounding like a real downer with many of this seasons collections as far as buying for myself goes. I’m usually trying to pare down what I want, and there’s hardly anything that’s sparked my interest, or the quality isn’t there, or there aren’t enough products/colors in a kit that I like. I shouldn’t have to talk myself into buying something. I might check out the Chanel quad, and may mostly be shopping my stash (and making my wallet happy) this season. 🙂
