MAC Keepsakes/Red Lip Bag Review, Photos, Swatches
MAC Keepsakes/Red Lip Bag
MAC Keepsakes/Red Lip Bag ($39.50 for 0.31 oz.) includes three, full-sized red-hued lip products, plus a glittery bag to put them in. The set launches October 17th online and will head in stores on the 23rd (see full details here. The set contains $47 worth of products (plus the bag). Though I love the color of Ruby Woo (a very classic red), it is drying on me over time, so you may want to carefully prep lips and be aware that you may need a little balm beforehand. Topping with the gloss helps to mitigate some of the drying qualities of the lipstick, but it had a tendency to feather after a few hours (which I don’t usually experience).
Ruby Woo Lipglass is a brightened, medium red with cool, blue undertones and a creamy, glossy finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage with a thick, tacky texture. It bled slightly on me after three and a half hours of wear, though the color wore five hours on me in total. Guerlain Rouge Parade (920) (LE, $30.00) is darker. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $15.00) is very similar. MAC Driven by Love (P, $19.50) is more shimmery. MAC Send Me Sailing (LE, $15.00) is sheerer. MAC Russian Red (P, $15.00) is not quite as blue-based. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Ruby Woo Lipstick is a deepened, medium-dark red with cool, blue undertones and an ultra-matte finish. It has full color coverage that wears for hours and hours (I took mine off after eight hours). It was somewhat drying on me, unfortunately, after about two and a half hours of wear. Kat Von D Hellbent (P, $21.00) is less blue-based, darker. Chanel La Precieuse (317) (LE, $34.00) is similar. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $16.00) is similar. NARS Dragon Girl (P, $25.00) is similar, slightly pinker. Maybelline Very Cherry (P, $7.49) is similar. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches/ view dupes.
Ruby Woo Lip Pencil is a medium, pink-red with cool undertones and a matte finish. It’s not a comfortable product to wear on its own, and it takes some work to get an even layer of color if you actually fill in all of your lip area. It does cling, and it makes my lips look like raisins. It lasted for eight hours on me, but it was very drying on its own. It was surprisingly a lot lighter than the lipstick, though. MAC RiRi Woo (LE, $19.50) is darker. MAC Trust in Red (P, $19.50) is similar. Urban Decay 69 (P, $19.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

I was thinking about getting this set for my mom. She’s all about red lips. But now I hesitate.
Not keen on the lip pencil in particular 🙁
Hi Christin, could you make a compare between the new and old Ruby Woo lipstick? I had a same name lipstick but the colour is deferent.
All my tubes are the same, but I don’t think I have anything older than 2 years or so…
Thank Christine. But i still see the new brighter. Thank you anyway
Even though it’s a cool toned set I love it on you. It really brightens up your face.
Thank you!
Call me ridiculous but i love the pouch the most out of everything
They want to lure you in with the packaging, so it worked in this case 😉 Nothing wrong with that!
I want to own this just for the pouch 🙂 soooooooooooooooooo stunning on you Christine 🙂
you are looking smashing hot in this
Did you do wear testing on all the products combined Christine? Just wondering if layering would help the gloss from bleeding at all. Love the pouch it comes in!
It doesn’t – the gloss bleeds on me whether alone or over a lipstick.
Ruby Woo is EVERYTHING! such a classic, stunning cool-toned red. That lip gloss looks gorgeous as well.
It is a nice shade of red!
Ouch, that lipliner looks uncomfortable. I feel like Ruby Woo is sufficiently clingy/drying without it!
I almost want this. Just for the liner lol. I kinda regret skipping the RiRi Woo liner. I can live without the gloss and lipstick though.
I really like the color. The pencil sounds like it’s better suited just to lining and not filling in the lip. Bleeding gloss, though, is a deal-breaker. It sounds like one would be better off just buying the lipstick on its own.
Love the bag and everything in it! Looks like the quality is pretty top notch – too bad the nude version isn’t as high quality as this one! I would be all over it!
Do you think you’ll get this one, Stephanie?
You have the gloss listed twice in the gloss over. The pencil is LE, I see, but can you only get it in the set?
It is only available in the set!
Phooey!
Thank you!
Ruby Woo really looks good on you! I’ve hesitated on this color in the past thinking it would be too cooltoned, but since it looks good on you, I may reconsider but get a demo first at the MAC store.
I actually think that blue-based reds look better on me than warmer ones!
I’m so happy, in an odd way when there are sets I don’t want to buy! I have Ruby Woo, the lipstick, and I love it even if it’s a bit drying. If the gloss feathers on you, it will on me, and that’s not a look I go for 🙂 Money saved for other things, yay!
Will you review the Dior holiday edition? I saw it today, and while I liked the look of everything, I found it disappointing when I swatched. I though the palettes lacked in pigmantation, the shimmery highlighters, if that is what they are, a gold and a pink one were very sparkly, the lipsticks nice, I only checked two of them, but the half-half idea would probably annoy me. The mono eyeshadow in whatever they call the formula was very sparkly, sheer fine sparkle. I didn’t take a closer look on anything else. Anyone else tried this? If so thoughts?
Sorry for putting this here, right in the middle of MAC lip products 🙂
I will try, but no promises!
It would be interesting to see what you think about it, but if you have to buy it, I’d pass if I were you. The quint without the purple eyeshadow was a bit more pigmentet, but the middle colour, the silver wasn’t very good. The one with the purple was quite bad, I thought, especially the purple, but the middle, gold shadow was OK, if you like very shimmey golds, that is.
I had high hopes for the Dior holiday edition, but I will not get anything from it.
Now I’m leaving this Dior talking to say that Ruby Woo is a fantastic lipstick, a true classic, at least that’s what I think.
I want ruby woo. It’s next on my MAC list. I’ll pass on this set though.
At least the lipstick is permanent 🙂
Does each product come with a box or does it all come just in the pouch with no other packaging? Because I love everything except the lipgloss and it would be a cute stocking stuffer and if it came in a box, it would look less… used? hahah x
While all three together have some serious wow factor, I have to admit I saw ‘Ruby Woo’ and…yawned. I mean, if you were really wanting the set, then I guess…? But I would actually have hoped for LE stuff (I know, MAC doing something LE? When does that ever happen? ;-P ).
I think I’ll get this set for my friend for Christmas, she tried Ruby Woo on at counter and loved it. I’ve told her I’m getting her the lipstick, but she doesn’t know I’m getting her the bag 😉
I. NEED. THIS. IN. MY. LIFE
Can’t wait for this collection to come out!! <3
This is the perfect gift for my mom! Red lips are her thing and i love my Riri woo, so i know she’ll love Ruby woo 🙂
Even though its drying, I LOVE the color on myself. I’m really tempted by this one!!
