MAC Heroine Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Heroine Lipstick
MAC Heroine Lipstick

MAC Heroine Lipstick ($15.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “bright violet/purple.” It’s a medium-dark, red-toned purple with a satin finish. Heroine originally launched with Reel Sexy last March. MAC Seductive Intent is slightly lighter and pinker. MAC Strong Woman is darker, purpler. MAC Violetta has a light shimmer but is otherwise a worthy dupe to consider.

It will shock absolutely nobody that Heroine has already sold out (and in all forms but the polish) on MAC’s website, but do not fear, as it is a normal launch and will be hitting stores and counters next week as well as retailers like Nordstrom, Macy’s, etc.  Heroine has a creamy consistency that glides on well without tugging or pulling on the lips.  It has full, opaque color coverage and wears well for six hours and does leave a reddish stain behind. It’s neither drying nor hydrating.

Unfortunately, this shade would not flattering on me at all. I enjoy seeing your reviews Christine because our skin tones are quite similar, but this shade isn’t for me. I’d probably add it to my kit for use on clients or for really dramatic looks. Otherwise, I’d pass on it!

More of a general question but, how do you determine if a product is “red-toned”/warm or “blue-toned”/cool? You describe ‘Heroine’ as a red-toned purple but I read it as blue so I wondered what I was missing.

This looks like it could be similar to the new Maybelline lipstick. I forgot the name but it is their intense colors… something Berry.

Definitely not for me, but I surprisingly don’t mind this on you at all.. but with both the lipstick and the lipgloss on, it does pull your skintones in weird directions.. Your skin looks altogether different between the lipgloss only photo and the lipstick only and two products together. I fear on me it would only emphasize sallowness so pass.

I like Heroine, but I have comparable dupes that I like just as well. I don’t think anyone is going to hold a lIpstick swatch next to my lips to confirm if its Heroine (lol).

A little darker than this and this is how Mac Rebel looks on my lips. I dislike that lipstick on myself so obviously this would be a pass for me, however it looks nice on you Christine 🙂 .

Hi christine, I have seductive intent if i were to get heroine lip liner and wear it with seductive intent would it pull close to heroine or should i just get heroine instead?

I like the color, but I passed on this. But now I’m wishing I got the lipglass!

On another note, I’m loving your glow Christine! Anything different? Foundation and setting powder, highlighter, please? Thank you! =)

abigailod Avatar

Just beautiful! It seems like Maestro *almost always strikes me when you wear it. =)

And don’t worry, no obvious melting signs, just glow! ;p

I need your help Christine. Even after going through some 41 pages of the Guerlain reviews, I’m still unable to find your review on Guerlain Les Voilettes (even from the 2013 Editor’s Choice Awards link). Maybe I’m missing something?

Will you be kind enough to post the link? I really tried and looked for it. I wanted to learn more about how different it is from the other Guerlains that you use to set and love.

Super thank you in advance! =)

Hey Abigail!

So, I’ve never done a review for Les Voilettes, which is why you can’t find one! It’s listed on Nordstrom as Les Violettes but I’m pretty sure it is Voilettes… anyway, here’s what Nordstrom says: “Guerlain’s long-standing love affair with powders goes back 180 years and continues with the magical Les Violettes Powder. This powder is infused with minerals to fortify an invisible and flawless look. Marvelously fine and exceptionally transparent, it mattifies and sets makeup without ever caking. The sensual, velvety finish and exquisite violet fragrance have garnered a loyal following among consumers. Never before has the ability to remove shine and even out the complexion been so subtle and comfortable.”

I’m not entirely sure why it’s stated to be transparent because it IS colored and they do have shades. It definitely doesn’t provide coverage like a loose foundation, but it isn’t white powder! It is great for mattifying and setting makeup, and for me, I often use it to darken a foundation that might be too light on me. So, it’s not like Meteorites, beceause it doesn’t add any glowy/shimmer/pearl.

Thanks so very much Christine! =) I appreciate it!

So, if anything, to which MAC powder (MSF maybe?) or another Guerlain is it comparable to? I already have the Illuminating & Mattifying Pressed Powder but I don’t have any loose COLORED setting powder. I do have MAC’s Prep & Prime loose white powder but that sometimes makes my foundation look off. Thoughts?

Said it all day and Heroine started to sound like “heroin”. Not a color I think work for me, but I bought it anyway…because it’s so popular.

Fiona Avatar

I missed out on this shade last time, I’ll definitely be getting the lipstick and liner when they come out in the UK, and possibly the Lipglass! 🙂 xx

Kim Avatar

Man its sold out everywhere except ebay and amazon who are price gouging!!! $35 up to $100 bucks…How can i get this lipstick for a fair price????

Yoli Avatar

Heroine is sold out everywhere. I checked every MAC counter in town. Does anyone know if they usually restock their collections that sell out?

summer Avatar

do you know if mac will restock it .i remember i missed out on the archies girls when it first came out and then a month later i saw it restocked almost or maybe the exact same day of the month as the day it was last month so i was wondering if they would restock may 4th since it came to stores april 4th?
