MAC Heirloom Mix Lipsticks

MAC No Faux Pas Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “hot pink [with a Matte finish].” It’s a bright, fuchsia-red with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had full color coverage with a lightly creamy consistency that applied smoothly and evenly without tugging on the lips. This shade wore well for six and a half hours and left behind a strong stain. It was neither drying nor hydrating for me. MAC Catharina (P, $23.00) is more muted, glossier. MAC Good Kisser (LE, $16.00) is a smimdgen lighter. Too Faced Melted Candy (P, $21.00) is glossier. MAC Red Balloon (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Illamasqua Glissade (P, $26.00) is cooler-toned, glossier. Estee Lauder Dominant (P, $30.00) is glossier. MAC Good Taste (P, $22.00) is more muted, sheerer. NARS Yu (P, $25.00) is warmer. Milani Hot Pink Rage (P, $5.49) is lighter. MAC Moxie (LE, $16.00) is slightly redder. MAC Girl About Town (P, $16.00) is darker. Buxom Exhibitionist (P, $21.00) is glossier. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Rebel Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “pink plum [with a Satin finish].” It’s a medium-dark berry with cool, pink undertones and a soft shine. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and it was easy to apply due to its creamy consistency. The color lasted for six hours and left a stain behind. It was neither drying nor hydrating. This is part of the permanent range. MAC Fashion Revival (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted, matte. Marc Jacobs Beauty Headliner (608) (P, $28.00) is brighter, lighter. Inglot #293 Lipstick Cream (P, $12.00) is darker, glossier, warmer. YSL Forbidden Burgundy (12) (P, $34.00) is darker. Marc Jacobs Beauty Seduce Me (128) (P, $30.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Venom (P, $22.00) is more shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Violet Fatale (P, $50.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Salon Rouge Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “clean berry red [with a Matte finish].” It’s a deepened, medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, and the texture was mostly creamy and didn’t tug on the lips. It seemed to have a thinner quality, though, and it wasn’t quite as even in application compared to other shades with a similar finish. The color lasted for six and a half hours and left a stain behind. It was slightly drying. MAC Dangerously Chic (P, $23.00) is lighter. MAC Frank-n-furter (LE, $16.00) is more matte. Urban Decay Mrs. Mia Wallace (LE, $22.00) is brighter. MAC Roxo (LE, $16.00) is more muted. Urban Decay Gash (LE, $22.00) is glossier. Chanel La Desiree (327) (LE, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Just a Bite (LE, $16.00) is similar. NYX Chic Red (P, $4.00) is more matte. MAC Prolong (P, $18.00) is warmer. MAC Such Flare (LE, $16.00) is slightly warmer, more matte. MAC Runaway Red (LE, $16.00) is similar. MAC Absolute Power (LE, $16.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Sparks of Romance Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “true red [with a Matte Frost finish].” It’s a medium-dark, brightened red with subtle, cool undertones and barely-there gold shimmer. It had almost full color coverage, and the finish is was semi-matte. The consistency didn’t tug at lips, but there was a slight texture that I could feel due to the shimmer content. It wore well for six and a half hours and was slightly drying. MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $16.00) is more muted, less red, matte. MAC Ruby (LE, $16.00) is warmer. Too Faced Melted Ruby (P, $21.00) is glossier. Estee Lauder Vengeful Red (P, $30.00) is similar. Bite Beauty Rioja (P, $28.00) is more muted. Tom Ford Beauty Vampire Kiss (LE, $50.00) is cooler-toned. Chanel La Precieuse (317) (LE, $34.00) is more matte. MAC Glam (DC, $16.00) is lighter, brighter. Urban Decay 69 (P, $22.00) is brighter. Maybelline On Fire Red (P, $7.49) is glossier. MAC Ronnie Red (LE, $16.00) is more matte, darker. MAC MAC Red (P, $16.00) is darker, cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Tribalist Lipstick ($17.50 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “deep purple berry [with an Amplified finish].” It’s a berry-red with subtle, cool undertones and a very glossy finish. It feels nothing like MAC’s Amplified finish. Due to the high slip in the formula, it doesn’t apply evenly and feathered within two and a half hours of wear. The color lasted for six hours, but it looked disastrous by that point with how much feathering and settling had occurred by then. Kat Von D Motorhead (P, $21.00) is more matte. Bite Beauty Bordeaux (P, $28.00) is cooler-toned. Maybelline Espresso Exposed (955) (P, $7.49) is similar. Urban Decay Shame (P, $22.00) is slightly redder. MAC Sin (P, $16.00) is more matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

These lipsticks are from the upcoming Heirloom Mix collection, which launches online on October 19th and hits stores/counters on October 23rd. International locations should see this sometime in November.

Hi Christine, does Rebel look like Fashion Revival? They look similar to me but I haven’t seen any comparisons between them. Thank you!

Pretty! This whole collection! But it might be a little too cool toned for me. MAC is killing me right now…I can’t keep up with your reviews for their releases let alone the products! And it does seem they’ve really been playing up reds this year…to the point where I don’t know if I can stand another MAC red. But this collection might tempt me. Lovely (and on you).

chris Avatar

I am so glad they are doing reds again. There was a time when I would get one almost every collection. I wish they would bring back Queen’s Sin or Miss Dish

Stacey Avatar

How many versions of reds Mac comes out with? The shades look identical from previous LE. Only Christine can tell apart. They all look the same on the lips if they are smidgen lay apart.

Ginny Avatar

Ohhh I don’t know. Usually I’m all over the LE reds and I like the color of Salon Rouge (since I missed Frank-n-Furter and Gash). But I might get the dupe Dangerously Chic instead, even though I can tell it’s lighter. Or, you know, both of them.

Rebel is my go-to shade when I do Elsa from Frozen for kids’ parties and I’ve burned through my tube. I think I’ve just found a great excuse to buy a new (sparkly!) tube! >:D

Syma Avatar

I have Girl about Town and I love the shade, but it doesn’t stay for any longer than 2 hrs on me, so I have been looking for the same shade in a matte finish. Will No faux pas do?
Thanks, I love your reviews!!

GabiRM Avatar

They’re beautiful colors! But I think MAC is overdoing red lipsticks, I have too much reds in my collection, from mac, my faves are ruby woo and russian red.Otherwise, I really liked the pink of this bunch. Awesome review as always!

Hm… I have to say that I don’t really see the difference between the regular and the frosted matte lipsticks at normal viewing distance. I didn’t want a super shimmery look, but it’s less special than I’d hoped. The original Tribalist was a great vampy lip. I’m sorry to hear the new one is a letdown.

Sparks of Romance <3
Rebel is such a classic beauty!
And, what a pity about Tribalist.
So many new LE's from MAC for the holidays, just looking at the photos made me dizzy 🙂

Jade Avatar

Yet more lovely mattes from MAC and yet again I won’t be bringing any home! Ah well! Thanks to you I know I don’t need these and I can focus on filling out more unique shades in my collection! Thanks again!

And once again I’m really happy I snagged Good Kisser, the undertones are so bang on perfect for me!

giavanna Avatar

Is their a difference of the formulation of the lipstick “tribalist” from this collection and the style warriors collection? I had it before and used it all so I want to get a new one but I don’t want to get it if the lipstick is like what happened to the Stereo Rose msf.

Meetri Avatar

So I ordered sparks of romance and I do have glam that you listed as a dupe. I’ve been on a hunt for a bright red almost neon that doesn’t end up orangy or too pink. What would you suggest?

Janet Avatar

Christine, thank goodness for your reviews. I just ordered No Faux Pas and Rebel. I am tempted to get a couple more, but you saved me from buying Tribalist since I love the Amplified finishes I had it in my cart, but thought to myself let me check what Christina said since I forgot when I read originally read your review. Such a shame, it looks like it could have been a beautiful shade. I own so many reds so I will wait until they get released in store so I can swatch and pick one, but that will be hard since you make them all look so good lol

Hi Christine,
This is my first comment on your website. I would like to thank YOU for all the reviews. Everytime I’m going to purchase make-ups, I check temptalia.com. It has been very helpful! I trust your judgement and the ratings of the products, it is actually very well thought and well graded.
Thanks:)

Hie Christine,
Hope you’re doing great =). I’ve been a silent reader of your blog and it’s my first ever comment here =D !
I wanted to know how’d you compare no faux pas to kelly yum yum ?
Thank you
Lots of love xx
