MAC Heavenly Creatures Mineralize Eyeshadows
MAC Heavenly Creatures Mineralize Eyeshadows
MAC Heavenly Creatures Mineralize Eyeshadows ($20.00 for 0.06 oz.) features nine shades: Aurora (peach, green, brown melange), Bright Moon (grey, silver, icy green melange), Earthly (beige, peach, cool brown melange), Invincible Light (icy white, lavender, warm gold melange), Magnetic Attraction (orange, pink, gold melange), Neo Nebula (cream, warm amethyst, warm pink melange), Sky (green-gold, turquoise, cobalt melange), Universal Appeal (gold, bronze, violet melange), and Water (yellow, lime green, blue melange).
- Aurora is a warm, golden medium-dark brown with a soft champagne sheen. It has swirls of light yellow-toned pink, dirty olive brown, and red-brown. It’s on the sheer side when applied dry, but it’s more opaque when applied wet. Dior Aurora is slightly darker. Buxom Golden Retriever is a touch darker, more red-toned. MAC Heavenly Bliss is a bit lighter, less warm. MAC Love Connection is more frosted, so it looks a bit lighter and more metallic. Milani Fusion is slightly more metallic.
- Bright Moon is a cool-toned silver-shimmered gray-blue. It has swirls of gray-blue, silver, and aqua-blue. When applied dry, it has good color payoff, and when it’s applied dry, it has better pigmentation and applies more smoothly. The metallic finish is more apparent when it is used wet. It looks just like MAC Frozen Blue, which might be a smidgen more silver, but they’re really close. Urban Decay Crystal is less blue.
- Earthly is a gray-tinted medium-dark brown with a pearly metallic sheen. The swirls are gray-beige, copper, and dark brown. It has good color payoff both wet and dry. MAC Caviar Dreams is a bit darker. Bare Escentuals A-Ha is warmer, darker. MAC Magical Mist is similar but more subdued.
- Invincible Light is a pale warm pink with a subtle golden shimmer. It’s pretty sheer when applied dry and better when applied wet, but it isn’t as smooth as I’d like–slightly gritty. It has swirls of ivory, copper, pink, and lavender. MAC Star Crystal is grayer. Bobbi Brown Black Ruby is pinker.
- Magnetic Attraction is a coppery coral-red with subtle golden shimmer. It has decent to good pigmentation when used dry (it looks more orange), and great color payoff when used wet. It has swirls of raspberry pink, golden yellow, and coppery orange. MAC Spicy Smoke is more intense. Milani I Heart You is redder. MAC In the Sun is darker, browner. MAC Red Hot Copper is similar but darker. MAC Coppering is more intense.
- Neo Nebula is a slightly mauve-y pink with a metallic finish. It has swirls of light pink, medium warm pink, and mauvy plum. When used dry, it’s very sheer, but when used wet, it’s smoother and more pigmented. MAC Rose Light is slightly pinker. Inglot #399 is pinker and darker. Giorgio Armani #7 is more muted. MAC Pink Union is slightly more purple and darker. MAC Circa Plum is darker, grayer.
- Sky is a faded blue with a hint of green with a green-gold shimmer. It has swirls of light-medium green, electric blue, and cobalt blue. The color payoff is sheer when used dry, and it’s better when wet, but it’s still not fully opaque. Urban Decay Shattered is a bit more teal. Guerlain Les Ombres de Nuit doesn’t have the same gold shimmer.
- Universal Appeal is a smoky eggplant purple with golden shimmer. It has swirls of yellowy green, dark brown, orange, and purple. When applied dry, it’s very brown and on the sheer side, while when wet, it takes on a purple hue. MAC Azuki Bean is a smidgen darker. theBalm Curvy Cami is purpler.
- Water is a dark but muted blue-green. It has swirls of yellowy chartreuse, chartreuse, mint green, and navy blue. The color payoff is atrocious when used dry, and it’s decent when used wet. Illamasqua Android is much more opaque and intense. Urban Decay Hijack is more opaque and intense. Urban Decay Loaded is more intense, more blackened in base color.
Whenever I have Mineralize Eyeshadows to review, I think it’s important disclose that I generally do not have a lot of success with them. They always look absolutely phenomenal in the pan; they’re amazing products to photograph, but application tends to be disappointing. I know that there are readers who, on the other hand, enjoy these eyeshadows immensely and look forward to the mineralize-themed collections that MAC puts out. The reasons I don’t like these is: lack of color payoff, fall out, and poor wear (fading/creasing, mostly fading). Not all shades perform the same; some are better, some are way worse.
I did three looks, where I used three shades for each one. When I wore Bright Moon, Sky, and Earthly together, they held up so-so over time. There was noticeable fading, slight creasing with Bright Moon after six hours, while Sky was less faded and no real creasing to speak off. Earthly was fairly faded. I had about the same results whether I applied over bare lids or over a primer (NARS Smudgeproof). Sky stains the lid, even when used over a primer.
When I wore Magnetic Attraction, Aurora, and Water in a look, they, too, held up okay but not well. Magnetic Attraction was the best, with only minor fading but no creasing after eight hours. Aurora was looking faded after eight hours, while Water was barely visible–not to mention it was such a pain to apply and to get to show up at all from the very beginning. The texture and feel of Water just didn’t work well; it was a little gritty and dry. The wear didn’t seem to improve with or without a primer; both were in the same state after eight hours. Water also stains the skin, just as a heads up.
The last trio I used included Invicible Light, Neo Nebula, and Universal Appeal. Invincible Light is very prone to fall out, and it can accentuate any texture on the lids, because it doesn’t apply smoothly. I was able to get plenty of color out of it by using it wet, but it did have some of its own problems. Neo Nebula and Universal Appeal were easier to use on the lid. However, the whole look lasted about five hours and had nearly disappeared after eight hours–and the photos are of the shades over primer (and the eye without primer looked the same).
It’s a shame that there were wear issues with these. I thought a lot of these were more blendable this time around than in previous releases. Some shades had decent to good color payoff when dry, as well as wet. None of it lasted a full eight hours, though, and some were nearly gone entirely after eight hours. I don’t know if there are many products that I’m as desperate to fall in love with as MAC’s Mineralize Eyeshadows. They look gorgeous in their pots. They’re absolutely stunning to behold. I know people love them. I want to love them, but I just can’t.

Yeah…that’s a shame. These were so beautiful in the pan, I guess I thought you results would be different. This is precisely why I don’t own any baked eyeshadows anymore–I just don’t like the results I get from them
I really wanted to love Aurora bc that was the name I used in Spanish class in high school. The blue ones are pretty but I can’t get blue to work with my fair skin/hazel eyes/ brown hair:( Water is pretty but I’m worried about payoff. will probably skip this entire collection sadly.
If it weren’t for the fading/wearing away, I’d be all over these!
Thank you! You are so cute and do so much for your readers!
After seeing Magnetic Attraction on, I can’t decide if I should return it and just buy Coppering? Then I get better payoff and almost the exact same color – for less money. Yes it’s less product, but this is a color I love, but hardly wear. I think I just might.
@melissavanost These are only 0.06 oz. and coppering is 0.04 oz. I think (veluxe pearl, right? otherwise it’s 0.05 oz.), and the regular shadows are cheaper, too 😉
@Christine (Temptalia) I think I may have now talked myself into returning my whole order (with maybe the exception of Stratus blush) – we’ll see what that looks like swatched! Thanks for the honest reviews as always. Plus it is veluxe pearl – so 0.05 oz.
Nebula cu Universal are just pretty
Man, you’re right Christine. They’re absolutely beautiful…until you try and put it on your skin! I love the looks you did, but I just don’t have the skill or patience to try and get these to work. I’ll pass. Thank you so much, as always!
Great job, thank you very much ! I’ll buy Bright Moon and Sky, really pretty ! They look gorgeous, but if they don’t wear so long well let’s think it over before purchasing.. I watched your video, great too I can say I know everything about this collection.
I am so glad I have UD’s Shattered, otherwise I would be lemming Sky like crazy. It’s such a lovely colour. Magnetic Attraction, however, is rather magnetic to me. Dammit, MAC.
I really wish these were as pretty as they look but I don’t like baked products. They always seem really dry and while the colours look lovely swirled in the pan, they get a bit muddied when mixed and all the vibrancy of the pan colour is lost. If only they could do swirly pressed shadows 🙁 Thank you for the ridiculously fast reviews as always!
Love them all, dont think I could choose just one:)
Yeah, it’s incredibly annoying how they look like complete little works of art in the pot and then dissolve into this muddy, bland, fading mess when applied. I mean, how amazing does that intense swirl of yellow in Sky look? I only wish the splendor of the plans could translate properly.
I’m taking a pass on these. Initially, I was interested in Earthly, but it is really nothing special. Water looks lovely in the look you did with it, Christine, but I’ve got enough similar greens. Unlike many, I have quite a few mineralized eye shadows that I really like but, as a few others have said, the prettiness in these seems to be in the pan; applied, they’re not unique.
think i’ll have 2 skip these, but i may end up picking up just 1 out of weakness
(they just look sooo pretty, i’m sure i’ll have several moments of weakness when i enter the MAC store). i actually love ME/S, & i think the semi-precious collection last year had better e/s. thank u Christine, for churning out these reviews at super sonic speed. ( huge virtual hug ). ; )
Disappointing but not surprising…. They DO look stunning in the pot!
Magnetic Attraction in particular catches the eye, I’ll try to see it in person.
Yeah, I’ve always thought the same about mineralized eyeshadows. I don’t know what the people who love them do differently: I don’t think even the sales associates at MAC can make these work. Last mineralized shadows I bought was Young Punk from Style Black and even applied with mixing medium over a base, it looks muddy. Never again.
When mixed Sky Mineralize Eyeshadow has a dupe for (or should I say MAC is a dupe for) in the Yaby cosmetics Pearl Paint formula in the shade PP001 Midnight Blue. it’s a 98% dupe because the Midnight Blue is actually more pigmented and buttery then Sky. 😉
I actually really like mineralized eyeshadows, but I expected really vibrant shades after looking at the pots. These are all just kind of frosty pastels for the most part. While some are very pretty, they are too similar to shades I have already, and I hardly wear them as it is.
I love the “Magnetic Attraction, Aurora, Water” look you did and I’m totally going to copy it 😀 so I caved and bought Magnetic Attraction, I already have browns and I know I have a dirty green that looks very similar to Water. Thanks for all the reviews!
I’m not sure I understand the hype surrounding mineralize eye shadows. We’re supposed to love them for their finish, right? I have one mineralize shadow where the two colors are split down the middle, so it’s easy enough to choose one color or the other, but I really hate when companies put out products where you have no choice but to mix colors. It makes me think, ‘Why didn’t you just mix this stuff for us before you put it in the pan, because you know no one is going to be able to pick out one individual color?’
@itscarin ^^ This
@itscarin LoL..exactly! I’m always thinking “Really, what colour is it??”
@itscarin As I stated in a previous comment, I actually really like mineralized eyeshadows, but I agree-the swirls look pretty in the pan, but I like the ones that are “split”. I actually have a MAC mineralized eyeshadow “quad” that has four distinct shades separated in quadrants. I can choose to blend all together, or use 1, 2, or 3, as the sections are big enough to get a brush in.
This is candy for your face
My two faves so far are Bight Moon and Invincible Light =D
I want to love the MAC mineralized eyeshades so badly, but they just aren’t worth the price for how they perform.
Honestly, I have some of the first mineralize eyeshadows they made, and the colors look super similar. Like in the pot it looks really pretty, but then you put it on and it’s kinda meh.
as I suspected.. Suggestion: you could always glue them to a canvas and presto instant art piece for your living room.. careful of the fallout..
Bummer! I was really looking forward to ‘water’ :(Thanks for saving me $ and disappointment! Oh well, off to the drugstore to try out some of those new L’oreal shadows!!
hm some of those swatches look pretty decent though.

Wow good to know thanks so much Christine! This was going to be my MASSIVE haul too! I was preparing to spend a bucket load of cash on Heavenly Creatures but now I’m not so sure =S are they much worse than the usual Mineralize eye shadows like Young Punk, Cinderfella etc? In terms of colour payoff etc? I have a few of the Mineralize and I quite like them 🙂 Thank you so much for reviewing these xoxo
@MiettaReynolds They’re about the same, I’d say!
its funny that very few of them have dupes that are permanent or available…makes me want to buy them 🙁
I can’t stand glitter and too much sparkle/shimmer on my face, but I’m still weirdly tempted to buy Magnetic Attraction looks amazing in the pan and swatched.
Universal Appeal reminds me a little of Jesse’s Girl Plum Frost.
I have to say, I’m really liking water. It’s lack of a really blackened base and the fact that it’s only lightly shimmery/frosty (unlike the dupes though they’re pretty as well) makes it more wearable for everyday for me. Now I still don’t think I’d pay $20 for a single MAC e/s, but still the color…
you created some very pretty looks 😀
the swatch of ”water” is really disappointing….. ”magnetic attraction” and ”silver moon” are nice looking ones I think I’ll get those two
I must’ve gone on the MAC website like five times and picked out the colors I wanted. Each time I would remove all the shades becuase I am so skeptical of mineralized shadows. So thanks Christine for swatching these and saving me money. I knew my instincts were right and you confirmed them. But wouldn’t they have been awesome if they were Metals instead? Yum!
This page is titled Eyesadows and then starts as Creamsheens. Just wanted to let you know!
Christine thanks for the reviews yiu just powered through in the last few days. So, would you say these mes are a flaky eyeshadow texture like some of Milani’s mes are, or are they still more of a traditional familiar eye shadow texture like the Galaxy Glams mes from Too Faced from a few years back?
On a different note, I just tried a wacky technique to utilize the swirl factor in my TF galaxy glams. I used a dampened make-up sponge to stamp the swirl pattern onto my eyelids. It turned out fun, maybe for Halloween. ; ) Could be fun with the more pigmented ones in this batch too, like Magnetic Attraction maybe.
I don’t remember the eyeshadows from Too Faced 🙁
Was hoping Water had lots of bright green that would show up on application, poo!!!
Also, Sky has a STRONG resemble to the top middle shade in the Guerlain Les Aquas pallette!
What I do find interesting about these is how all of the different colors in the pan swatch to one color that doesn’t seem likely to be a result of everything from the pan, LOL. (if that makes sense….!)
Water looked so beautiful…. and then… meh!
Looks pretty! But how do they perform….
I doubt I’d ever buy one of these, because of the price & the quality, but I’d love to see the individual colors swatched separately. I think that’s the coolest thing about marbled shadows, that you can pick up more of the any of the colors if you want.
They are always so visually appealing. I do love to look at them!
I was sooo drawn to the bright colors in Water, but swatched, it looks like poop!
@VictoriaDitrich I know!!! I was at the MAC Pro store on Sunday and I swatched Water. I was like ‘ummm….’. To think I was going to order these on ebay and pay around $500 for almost the whole collection…saved myself sooo much cash! Thank you Christine!!
Finally got around to checking these out today. I definitely agree that these are prettier in the pan than used. Neo Nebula was practically invisible on my NW15 skin used dry and you’re right about the staining.
swatched four hours ago and I just noticed the stain even though the shadow is long gone. Not sexy.
It’s getting easier and easier to resist MAC collections. A good thing, yet kind of sad.
Hey Guys !(: I do agree , it is really light , but for me , a 13 year old , invincible light was perfect for me ! A light shimmer not too much ! (: So I think it really depends how you want it to look (: This was awesome btw !
Hi Christine, thanks so much for these swatches. I’m just wondering how Shimmermoss compares in color to Sky. Are there any other MAC eyeshadows that I could substitute for Sky (to avoid staining) or would I be better going for UD Shattered in terms of payoff/fallout etc? Also I love the Tarina Tarantino Kanzashi Dream Hyperliner. Which would you purchase given the choice, it or the UD Eye Pencil in Electric? Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate your advice.
@Blingittomewilmey I’d say go with Shattered!
Kanzashi hands down!!
Hi Christine,
I bought Neo Nebula, Universal Appeal and Invincible Light as I just love the look you did above. However, I can’t figure how the placement of the colors. I am guessing Invincible Light was used for the inner corner, Universal Appeal for the outer “c”…and Neo Nebula as a highlight. Can you confirm if this is right..looking at it now…I don’t think it is.
@JacquelineScanlan Invincible Light on the inner half of the lid, Neo Nebula on outer half of lid, Universal Appeal in the crease, Burberry Trench to highlight
@Christine (Temptalia) Thanks Christine..appreciate it. Love your site xox
Having now purchased online the Neo Nebula, Invincible Light and the Universal Appeal I have to say I am really disappointed with these. I applied my shadows both wet and dry but found for Invincible Light that mine is a light gold with very little of the pink, my Universal appeal has a lot of the dark color throughout the pan and it is very dark on the eyelid..a flat purple really, and again with Neo Nebula I have a lot of the dark color..so it looks very flat.
I used the Urban Decay primer and found that there was minimal fade after 8 hours, but due to the variations in marbelling this has put me off buying the marbelled mineralize shadows as there is such inconsistency in my opinion.
I am usually a big fan of Macs Mineralized shadows but all of my others are solid colors such as young punk..which is divine when used over a black base.
Ha, Magnetic Attraction looks exactly like what Bad Fairy would translate to as an eyeshadow.
