MAC Good Taste Mineralize Rich Lipstick

MAC Good Taste Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “fuchsia pink.” It’s a brightened, fuchsia-pink with cool, blue undertones and a soft sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage, and the consistency was lightly creamy and easy to apply. The color wore well for four and a half hours. Tom Ford Beauty Incorrigible (08) (LE, $49.00) is lighter. MAC Heavenly Hybrid (LE, $16.00) is mor emuted. Charlotte Tilbury Velvet Underground (P) is brighter. MAC Pink Poodle (DC, $16.00) is more matte. Revlon Fuchsia Shock (P, $7.99) is similar. Milani Hot Pink Rage (P, $5.49) is lighter, more matte. MAC Lickable (P, $16.00) is darker, less blue-based. See comparison swatches.

MAC Pure Pout Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “dirty cool beige.” It’s a neutral-to-warm-toned, pinky-beige with a soft, almost frosted, sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, and it applied evenly for the most part. The color lasted two and a half hours on me. Tom Ford Beauty Summer Fling (04) (LE, $49.00) is pinker. YSL Nude Beige (1) (P, $34.00) is much lighter. Too Faced Taffy (P, $21.00) is a little lighter. Revlon Pink Lemonade (P, $7.49) is a touch lighter. MAC Pure Zen (LE, $16.00) is darker. Chanel Jersey Rose (P, $34.00) is slightly darker. See comparison swatches.

MAC So Good Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep magenta.” It’s a medium-dark, pinky-red with cool, blue undertones and a luminous shine. It had mostly opaque pigmentation, but it wasn’t a heavy, full coverage cream result–a very slight translucency that kept it from looking heavy. The color wore well for five hours and left a slight stain behind. Too Faced Jelly Bean (P, $21.00) is very similar. Guerlain Illusion (660) (LE, $35.00) is more shimmery. Urban Decay Jilted (P, $22.00) is more shimmery. Guerlain Gigi (P, $49.50) is brighter. Guerlain Champs-Elysees (P, $35.00) is similar. See comparison swatches.

Good Taste its lovely, and on you. Pure out has an almost weird look to it…is it the frost? Is this color combined with a frosty finish hard for many to wear? It seems…oddly unnatural …given that it’s a more natural looking idea makeup wise. I struggle with nudes and have super pigmented lips (so maybe they just aren’t for me) but viewing this one it seems tougher to wear than a more creamy formula. Am I imagining things?
Thanks for posting!

Hi Allison!

I start here – http://www.temptalia.com/swatch-gallery

I have a pretty good visual memory, so a lot of times I remember the product as I see it and all its attributes. When things are really similar, or I’m not quite certain, that’s when I go looking for the actual product to double check! (I hesitate to say 100% dupes without confirming in person.)

I like all of these. Pure pout is weird but I might be able to pull it off. I say that because it’s nude and like a cool yellow neutral based lippie. Pink Lemonade is actually very close in color but possibly not in coverage. I’d loved Gigi when I saw it, but not the price so this might be a good alternative.

I honestly love all of these colors, especially Pure Pout. I just wish I didn’t want to buy every single nude-colored lipstick on the market. I think I have an addiction 🙂

So Good and Good Taste are gorgeous on you! As far as Good Taste goes, which do you prefer out of that,Jilted, and Jelly Bean? And which is the most hydrating? I “need” a magenta lipstick and now can’t decided which one.

Christine Avatar

Jilted, because it’s hydrating and wears well, but Jelly Bean is the most comfortable to wear. It doesn’t feather on me, but that would be the one most prone to feathering/bleeding of the three I would say, just because it has such an emollient consistency.

Tara Avatar

Okay.. both Revolution and La Creme wear well, long, and are comfortable on my lips. Still haven’t made my first MAC purchase. Thanks so much, Christine! I rarely buy higher brand (not drugstore) makeup without consulting you first!

Loving Good Taste and So Good! They look wonderful on you and I am confident they will look great on me as well. I really like the Mineralize Rich lipsticks, and the several I have I purchased based off your reviews! Your swatches are SO useful since the closest little tiny MAC counter is 150+ miles, and usually when I am there I want everything!!

Will definitely add in Fairytale to my next on-line Sephora order too!

Thanks so much!!

I love all of these looks! Is the teal color on your eyes on your waterline or along the lower lashes? I’d love a tutorial on how you did this because I feel like it could have easily gone very 80s, but you made it look GORGEOUS and modern!

Love all the brights on you as usual, Good Taste in particular..so pretty. I’m finding Pure Pout interesting and just picked it up since it is not the typical warm nude that MAC usually puts out there.

Hi Christine!
So I’ve noticed a couple of times that an product that you list as similar to another product is actually not similar, however appears that way on the lips due to differences in pigmentation of the product, etc. For example, Revlon Pink Lemonade is listed as “a touch lighter” than MAC Pure Pout, when in my experience Pink Lemonade is a sheer pale yellow pink (perhaps a paler, sheerer MAC Hue) and Pure Pout is a light-medium browned pink (comparable to MAC Patisserie). I went to the Dupe List to compare your lip swatches of the two, and simply looking at the color of your lips, the comparison of Pink Lemonade being “a touch lighter” than Pure Pout is seemingly correct. But a comparison of the products themselves proves otherwise.
This isn’t meant to be harsh or overly critical, I just wanted to provide you with this observation in the hopes that it will lead to more accurate dupes in the future. 🙂
As a side note, 95% of the time your comparisons are spot-on and are tremendously helpful for those looking for cheaper alternatives or to see whether they already have similar colors in their collection.
Thank you so much for all the hard work you do to give us an endless flow of honest reviews and helpful tips and tricks, in addition to providing readers with such a lovely beauty community. I have been a loyal reader for years and plan to continue reading your blog for many years to come 🙂

Hi Kat,

On me, swatched, Pink Lemonade is lighter, slightly brighter/warmer than Pure Pout (I’m talking about skin swatches), when swatched compared to Pure Pout. If you click “see comparison swatches,” you can see all the products on skin as well as lips. When I compare lip products, I am looking at the swatches and looking at the texture/finish/opacity to see how that may affect the outcome – much as when I look at blushes, I look at both heavy and sheered out swatches. I always weight the skin swatch higher than as applied (because there are differences in how it may appear sheered out due to skin tone, lip color, under tones, etc. as well as finish). Based on having and swatching both, that was my assessment of their similarity! I appreciate your feedback, so I wanted to explain how I look at similar shades and assess them and that I very much take into account the two shades – swatched and applied to lips – when looking for dupes.

Thanks so much for your feedback – I’m really sorry to disappoint you!

Christine Avatar

Also! That being said – not everyone will agree with the dupes I suggest, and that’s OK and normal. If you think 95% are spot-on, then that’s really the best I can hope for! We are bound to disagree at least a few times! 🙂 On this one, I disagree, but I welcome you to ask for clarity on any others you might feel aren’t dupes, as I’m always happy to look at the relationship again.

Thanks again!
