Feelin' Sedimental
MAC Feelin’ Sedimental Lipstick ($19.50 for 0.1 oz.) is a light peach with moderate, warm undertone with a satiny sheen. It was more balanced between pink and peach, though it may appear peachier on cooler skin tones (as it appears to lean slightly pink against my warmer undertones). The texture was dense but creamy enough to apply without dragging and delivered even, opaque coverage in one layer. For the lightness of the shade, it went on rather well, and the lack of slip on helped keep it from settling more and more into lip lines, though there was a bit of settling initially. It stayed on nicely for four hours and was lightly hydrating over time.

MAC Lipstick comes in a variety of finishes, and the pigmentation and wear tend to be dependent on the finish. The sheer finishes, like Lustres, tend to wear for only a couple of hours and have sheer coverage (as designed) and are non-drying.
Some of the original Matte shades have a stiffer, drier formula, while newer ones have a more velvety, silicone-feel to them, and the latter are creamier, more comfortable to wear, and easier to apply, but most Matte shades are quite pigmented and long-wearing, though some are drying.
The Amplified and Satin finishes tend to have good pigmentation, lightly creamy to moderately creamy consistencies with a bit of shine, and moderate to long wear with deeper, richer shades wearing longer. The Frost and Metallic finishes have the most variance between shades with coverage ranging from semi-sheer to opaque with average wear and non-drying to slightly drying formulas. All MAC lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste.

The Naturalist
MAC The Naturalist Lipstick ($19.50 for 0.1 oz.) is a medium peach with warm, muted orange undertones and a natural sheen. It has a Lustre finish, which is the brand’s sheerer coverage product, so the semi-sheer pigmentation was just as expected. The texture was lightweight, thin, and moderately emollient, so it was comfortable to apply and to wear. The color went on evenly for the most part, and there was just a touch of product in my deeper lip lines but not enough that it was noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It wore well for three hours and was neither drying nor hydrating on me.

Ingredients
On a lightweight funny note, after the whole Jacklyn Hill ordeal I can’t just look at lipsticks the same. Until now I never looked at sweats and dots, slight tip cuts, didn’t noticed anything on lipsticks… now I just see all the small defects. 😆
But that Feelin’ Sedimental is as beautiful as sweaty swim suit model on a beach. 😀 I think I like better pictures of imperfect sweaty lipsticks.
Maybe that’s one good thing to come out of it – we’ll all be a little more cognizant of what we’re using!
Christine, I am almost sad that your post titled “Just what is normal in your lipsticks” is not getting enough attraction from Beauty community. Not that you need any but I think you have offered a really firm, drama-free perspective.
I also think hairs, little plastic pieces or -if there are any- mold is unacceptable and I don’t plan tho purchase JH lipsticks anytime soon esp. when we are living at a time so many good lipstick formulas from any price point (Catrice, Colourpop, UD Vice, CT…) but I just wanted to say: I have Mac Viva Glam and Dita Von Teese Collab lipsticks and they had both arrived sweaty. I had just thought “hmm its fair, I live in Meditterrenean climate (South of Turkey). I think from now on if any brand release a lipstick with less-than-perfect pour…oh boy they will be damned 🙂
Yeah, it’s been a bit of a bummer because there were some very specific things I wrote and stylized them to try to be extremely clear, and I hope some of the further edits I made will help!
Actual hair would be totally concerning (human or animal). When I asked about it, the little plastic pieces seem to be a real pain to deal with sometimes, though obviously there are ways to minimize, minimize, minimize! and that’s one of the things you look for during QC. A formula with mold in it is definitely unacceptable and should be pulled from the shelves.
It is crazy that the launch has gone so sideways because it doesn’t seem like a decent lipstick is that hard to make; logically, botching it doesn’t make sense – it hurts her brand, her future career (presumably this is a next step and a way to move past YouTube), and she’s had issues with quality control in the past (they were collabs, so I’m sure not as much was in her control) – so she had to know she had to come out with a great product out of the gate or else she’d definitely hear about it. Like others, I very much wish the brand put out a stronger statement and at least made it clear that the lipsticks are new/should not have any mold in them etc.
Feelin’ Sedimental looks good on you, but a laughable nightmare on me! Yep, it gives me powdered donut lips. LOL.
The Naturalist is way more wearable for a greater variety of skin depths, I think. Lucky for me, I have Shy Girl and Sansa Stark, so I’m covered.
Liking The naturalist, its peachy, warm, sheer, just perfect for summer.
The Naturalist looks far more ‘natural’ than Feeling Sentimental, which would be far too pale for me.
Something about the name “feeling sedimental” makes me want to buy it soooo bad, which is weird as I usually don’t even notice names. Too bad it’s way too light for my skin. I love these large collections of nude lipsticks. There are never too many!
I thought the name was so good, too!
