MAC Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadows Reviews & Swatches
Cop a Pose
MAC Cop a Pose Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with subtle, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had good pigmentation both dry as well as wet, but the wet application yielded full color coverage and a slightly smoother, shinier finish. There was slight fallout when initially placed onto the lid with a dry brush. The eyeshadow had a smooth, firmer texture but didn’t feel stiff and picked up easily with a brush. It stayed on well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably and had slight fallout over time.

Formula Overview
$21.00/0.046 oz. - $456.52 Per Ounce
The wet/dry formula is supposed to have "stay-true colour" with "uncompromised colour clarity" and "colour intensity" that is "long-wearing" and "non-creasing." There are only four shades in the initial launch (hopefully, we'll see more shades in the future or some made permanent), but they were pigmented both wet and dry, blendable, and had good adhesion with minimal to light fallout.
The pigmentation was always more intense, slightly richer, and the texture smoother and less prone to fallout when applied with a wet brush, but the formula was easily used dry, too, if preferred. The texture was smooth to the touch, dense and firmer but not stiff to work with; they had a slight dryness to them that I find present in these gel-powder hybrid type products (as well as baked/mineralized products) that doesn't interfere with the application, adhesion, or wear.
The formula was consistent, generally, with the original Extra Dimension formula--just shinier, more sparkly, and a bit more vibrant.

Vio-lit
MAC Violit Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep violet purple with cool undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had finer sparkles compared to the other shades and had a shinier finish as a result, especially once blended out or when applied with a wet brush. The pigmentation was nearly opaque even with a dry application but looked less vibrant compared to the pan color as well as compared to the shade used with a wet brush. The texture was smooth, dense and firmer but not stiff to use, and blended out easily on my lids. It lasted well for almost nine hours before fading a bit, and there was a little bit of fallout over time.

Gold Metalist
MAC Gold Metalist Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark orange-leaning gold with strong, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation applied with a dry brush, and there was a little bit of fallout during application. With a wet brush, it had opaque color coverage and no fallout during application. The consistency felt smooth to the touch, firmer but not stiff–dry that I find common to these types of formulas (gel-powder hybrid/baked). It wore well for eight and a half hours with a touch of fallout over time.

Lunar Metal
MAC Lunar Metal Extra Dimension Foil Eye Shadow ($21.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a muted, blackened teal with cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The dry application yielded good color payoff but had to be built up for full opacity with a soft, blendable consistency and just a touch of fallout. The wet application resulted in opaque pigmentation in a single layer that adhered more smoothly and didn’t have any noticeable fallout. The texture was smooth, not at all powdery (a little “dry” in a way but not in a meaningful or negative way), and was easy to work with. It stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours on me before fading noticeably, and there was a minimal amount of fallout over time.

I’m loving all 4 shades! Sadly, I do have dupes for the 2 I love most, Vio-lit and Cop A Pose. But when has that ever stopped me?
Lunar Metal would be perfect for summer, I think. Especially for times when I want to rock a smokey teal eye that doesn’t frighten young children!
The purple and teal are stunning. Thinking they would look really amazing on their own blown out in a simple smoky eye.
I really love MAC’s ED shadows and Lunar Metal is giving me palpitations! I so wish they’d repromote Soul Serenade and Modern Pewter (neither was included when they repromoted some of the very best ED shadows). Still…that Lunar Metal shade looks phenomenal!
I’ve been waiting for Modern Pewter for years! Bought others and skipped that one and regretted it!
It was already sold out when I went to buy it! Like you, I’ve been lamenting not getting it. How I wish they’d re-release it (a few years ago, they did make a bunch permanent but not Modern Pewter or Soul Serenade. And now, they’ve even discontinued a few of the ones they made permanent.
Really liking the purple and teal. I have a Butter London glazen eye gloss that I think may be a nice dupe for the purple but I need to pull it out and see. I’ve been looking forward to these swatches, thanks Christine!
None of my Butter London Glazens look anything like that! (and I love them all!) Please let me know if you have something that looks like that!
These are so pretty!! I can’t get over it!!
These are beautiful shades – all of them are so vibrant, I love the gold, bronze and gorgeous blue/teal shade the best.
Love the purple, teal, and your eye look!! Looks like a work of art!
Lovely. Vio-lit is mesmerizing!
THIS LOOK!! Dang, Christine. Ah-may-zing.
I wonder when they’ll be released in Australia.
Whoa I love the teal ? I guess my moneys going to Mac and not Sephora this year ?♀️
