MAC Enchanted Eyes/Warm Eyeshadow Palette
MAC Enchanted Eyes/Warm Eyeshadow Palette ($39.50 for 0.15 oz.) includes six eyeshadows in the warm, neutral family. It’s decent, and it seems to come together better in practice than it otherwise may appear in swatches, but you can find so many neutral palettes these days that are better.
Seasonal Spirit is described as a “warm yellow-tan [with a Veluxe Pearl finish].” It’s a light, orange-toned gold with a frosted finish. It had so-so color coverage with a firm but not too stiff texture that blended well on the skin, but there was some fall out and a tendency to sheer out. It wore well for seven and a half hours. Too Faced Nude Beam (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop Crimper (LE, $6.00) is darker (95% similar). NARS Shade IV (LE, $25.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Retrospeck is described as a “beached blonde [with a Lustre finish].” It’s a muted, light-medium gold with warmer, brown undertones and a pearly sheen. This shade is part of the permanent range, and the permanent version is sheerer with chunkier sparkle, but this version seemed smoother and had finer shimmer. It wore for seven and a half hours before fading. ColourPop Bitter Better (PiP, $4.50) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Iris Bronze #2 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Dior Golden Flower #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Glaminatrix New Nude (PiP, $8.04) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Moon on Their Wings (LE, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Sax Appeal is described as a “soft taupe-brown [with a Satin finish].” It’s a light-medium brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color payoff with a firmer consistency that made it hard to get color out of the pan. It stayed on for seven and a half hours on me but was difficult to use. Moodmaker is described as a “rich oak-brown [with a Frost finish].” It’s a medium-dark, bronzy brown with softer, warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation, but the texture was on the drier side, so it looked a little powdery/dry on the lid unless really buffed and worked into the skin (and if you have drier lids, that might not help enough). This eyeshadow lasted for eight hours on me. Guerlain Les Precieux #4 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Urban Decay Chronosphere (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Splendor (DC, $25.00) is lighter (95% similar). MAC Luxury Cachet (LE, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Smashbox Hell Ya (PiP, ) is darker (90% similar). Charcoal Brown is described as a “muted taupe-brown [with a Matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium-dark brown with a hint of gray and warm, reddish undertones paired with a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff with a soft, smooth texture that easily blended on the skin. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. This is part of the permanent range. Bewitchin’ is described as a “warm chestnut-brown [with a Velvet finish].” It’s a dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. MAC Enchanted Eyes/Warm Eyeshadow Palette with Sephora Fairytale Eyeliner
Easy pass. But, this look inspires me to break out the Sephora Fairytale liner. Thank you for reviewing Christine!
My pleasure, Nicole!
Hmm, with all the good neutral palettes out there, it doesn’t look too good and it’s certainly not worth $40…
Exactly, Lulle!
Uh oh, I was really hoping this one would rank at least a B+ so I could have it in my bag as an eye look on-the-go type of neutral palette, due to its compact size and light-to-dark balance. But sadly, not such a great one.
Not sure it would help this little palette that even when I have to get out the door FAST, I still will put primer, mascara and tightline on?
I really think you can do better for this price point! 🙁
This is VERY true! Even that little Lorac trio would probably do fine for that on-the-go purpose.
I like this but will pass as I don’t need it and have 2 of the shadows already. I wish they’d included something in place of Retrospeck. I have it and it’s really not a very good shadow. Nylon or Ricepaper or one of the lovely discontinued highlight shades from the past would have been much better.
They ALWAYS include Retrospeck for the holidays 🙁
Looks like a beautiful palette! XO
The colors they choose do look nice in the pans!
For $40, this is very disappointing. The first 3 shades are probably going to look almost the same on my lids, and that last shade (dark brown) looks pretty sad. I rather pay more and get a UD Naked Palette, which is bigger and better. And the market is so saturated with neutral palettes that MAC could’ve just skipped this kit altogether. I’m starting to think that MAC pays employees based on # of collections they launch !
The original Naked is a lot better!
I’m not impressed.at all. I hope the other holiday palettes’ colors are better.
Same!
I actually really like the looks of it. It appears like it would be very pale girl friendly.
Let me know if you try it, Lauren!
This is an unusual offering – why a neutral palette? As you have said in your comments, there are stacks of these around and much better quality (UD, Lorac etc). And by look at the dupe list, there are lots of these colours around.
As usual your eye look is stunning and I LOVE the green eyeliner.
They seem to do warm/cool/smoky (that was how they used to set-up their holiday palettes), so I’m guessing they stuck with that – but they used to do more than just neutrals in a warm palette.
Definitely a hard pass for me.
Totally understand!
I have these colors in other palettes, I’m sure. B’s and C’s don’t make me want it more than what I already have.
I’m so glad you have dupes that are better!! 🙂
I feel like especially with those 9 pan palettes they came out with this is definitely not worth the price..
It’s definitely not up to snuff!
So generic, and you’d think a $40 palette would perform a bit better. I love your eye look though! I’m inspired to break out the teal liner with some neutral colors.
No excuse for this one to under-perform!
could you give a couple of quick recommendations for better neutral palettes?
thanks!
angie
UD Naked, Viseart Neutral, TF Neutrals
I think I’ll be pass this one! it can be easily duped imo. ~_^ btw Christine do you know when the “Enchanted” collection will be released in MAC stores in Canada? Thanks xx 🙂
Should be the same date as U.S.!
This palette, even though it’s less than stellar, is right up my alley. I’m in love with the packaging and the shades are exactly what I look for. Here’s the final deal-breaker: how was the brush? Is it actually practical or is it one of those that you’d only reach for in dire emergencies? I know the holiday palettes tend to have lackluster brushes but you never know. MAC’s quality has been all over the place in recent releases (the last year especially) so it never hurts to ask!
I’d use it as a last resort, lol!
Love the packaging and the shades in this particular palette are very versatile and easy to wear, but I also find them a little bit boring, oops.
Totally could see that!
Meh. Even if it would be great quality, I’m not interested at all. There are so many great neutral palettes out there that have something-something that this one doesn’t have.
I hear ya!
I liked Retrospeck, not worth though!
You can get that one on its own!
I think I have enough nude palettes, so this is an easy pass.
I think if it had had excellent formulations it could have been a very good palette to take on travels, but it seem to have some not very, but still, problematic shades in it.
Exactly! It needs to be excellent if it’s going to be so dupable!
This is perfect for anyone who wants to stick with neutrals. I’ve been looking for a small palette with more than 4 colors and this just may be perfect for me.
Hope this one works for you, Veronica!
An absolute bummer for the price! *sigh*
Agreed!
Once again Christine you manage to make an iffy palette seem stellar with your eye look. This Enchanted Eyes palette of the three holiday eye shadow palettes was the one I was lusting after, as I am a neutral shadow freak. I was trying to decide between this one of the Macnificent Me palette and that one is the winner. Glad its not quite as abysmal as the lavender version tho. That was horrible.
LOL! At least it’s usable!
Hey Christine,
Can i be lazy and ask how this compares to other mac palette in regards to pricing??
It’s about the same as a quad.
