MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)
MAC Highly Charged Electric Cool Eyeshadow
Breakdown of MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow – Part 2
The last six shades of MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($18.50 for 0.07 oz.) that we’re going to go through are: Highly Charged (rich purple with pink pearl), Infra-violet (mid-tone pink violet with blue pearl), Love Power (soft shimmering rose), Pure Flash (pale champagne), Superwatt (light shimmering taupe), and Switch to Blue (rich cobalt). Please read my review for how these feel, wear, etc.
- Highly Charged is a subtly red-toned medium-dark purple with a soft shimmer-sheen. It has so-so color payoff and some fading issues when worn. All of these only faded to a point, they didn’t disappear, but they weren’t as vibrant on as they were in the pan. Buxom Schnauzer is more of an eggplant purple. MAC Drawn to Drama is more blue-based. L’Oreal Perpetual Purple is brighter by a small amount. MAC Plush is softer, more red-toned. Make Up For Ever #142 is very similar in color though more matte in finish.
- Infra-violet is a vibrant fuchsia-magenta with a violet iridescence. It has decent color payoff, and it actually performs better on the lid in terms of pigmentation–it has some very slight fading over time. Make Up For Ever #89 is more magenta. Both Urban Decay Fishnet and MAC Stars ‘n Rockets are less pink, more purple. Bare Escentuals Boudoir is very similar though has less iridescence.
- Love Power is a pale pink with subtle yellow undertones and a highly metallic finish. This had beautiful color payoff when I swatched it, but I couldn’t get it to apply evenly at all. It was the worst on the lid out of all twelve. MAC Young Venus is paler, icier. Dior Garden Roses is similar but blue-based. MAC Taupeless is similar but frostier. MAC Seedy Pearl is cooler-toned. Inglot #431 is more metallic.
- Pure Flash is a soft peach with warm undertones and a frost-metallic shimmer-sheen. It’s semi-opaque in color. This would be a great brightening shade on light to medium complexions. Buxom Collie looks exactly the same in color, but it has a more metallic finish (less sparkle, more sheen). NARS Ramatuelle is similar, possibly lighter. Tarina Tarantino Delightful is more metallic.
- Superwatt is a subtly gray-tinged medium-dark brown with a frosted, metallic finish. It had good color payoff and applied easily to the lid without needing a lot of packing or manipulating. Buxom Mutt is warmer, more golden. Urban Decay Rehab is slightly darker. MAC Street Cool is darker. Urban Decay Midnight Rodeo is a bit warmer, browner. Inglot #402 is very similar, perhaps a touch darker.
- Switch to Blue is a medium-dark blue with softer blue shimmer and a satiny sheen. It’s mostly opaque but there is some underlying sheerness. Buxom Bulldog looks very similar, perhaps very slightly purple-tinted. Tarina Tarantino Violet Storm is brighter, more cobalt. Inglot #428 is darker, more intense. Make Up For Ever #81 is darker, more navy blue.

@temptalia I will not invest in another #MAC product until they do something orginal, this line is just like #urbandecay.
Pure Flash is way to sheer…. But I thank you for these swatches as I will be putting my money towards some more Lit Cosmetics glitters instead. 🙂
Superwatt is a nice color, not tempted to buy, but still nice.
@IcegirlVentura wowww que sombras mas preciosassss!!!!
I am not particularly interested in any of these but some of the pictures really make me wanna stick my finger inside the product…I don’t know why…I just want to see what the texture is in real life…hahahaha!!!!
I have the same strange urge. Would it be immature to go to the MAC counter just to stick my finger in these?
@CynthiaCyndaquilRamirez I was at the Nordstrom counter touching this eyeshadows for like an hour. The texture is incredible, is not cream is not powder.
It’s definitely one of those textures that you gotta feel to “get.” Have you felt Buxom Stay-There or Chanel Illusion d’Ombre? Those would be comparable – just in case you have!
Same! I want to poke it and see if it bounces back. 🙂
How does Infra-violet compare to Urban Decay’s Junkshow, from the Anniversary palette?
@duckrodeo Junkshow is like a much more intense, amped up version – it’s wayyy more intense. I’d say a little darker, too, even though it’s also brighter. http://www.temptalia.com/urban-decay-15th-anniversary-eyeshadow-palette-swatches-photos-review-part-1
Infra-Violet is the most interesting color in this collection, imo. I really like its purple sheen.
I think these need a little stopper in them like the GA ETK.
These shades are so, so pretty–but I think I lke the otehr shades better in the last post
I love all the purples. I can’t help it.
Mine came today and I’m so excited to try them out! I went for Superwatt and Infra Violet blindly but I’m so happy with my choices! Infra Violet is just beautiful!
Pure flash and Superwatt are gorgeous! Just my kind of shadows in terms of color.
Okay, so I had a little extra time tonight and tried out Pure Flash. Whoa, you weren’t kidding about the application! Patting is definitely the way you have to do it. When I tried to sweep or blend it, I got the same clumping results you mentioned. However, it does wear beautifully as a wash – really brightened up my eyes! It does lean slightly on the sheer side, but not in a bad way. Even with the underlying warm tones, it works on my cool-toned skin. I echo your sentiment about it not being a perfect formula, but I can definitely see myself getting some wear of this. While I’m not sure if I’ll pick up any of the other shades, I’m definitely content with what I purchased. At the least, I don’t feel like I wasted my money. 😛
Right? Like there’s something about it that’s gorgeous and pretty, there are some annoying flaws in the application… but I think for some, it’s not a big deal or worth it – I just want people to know what they’re getting into, lol!
Pure Flash is a good one for a wash 🙂 Very pretty!
These are such pretty colors but the product in the pot looks horrible. Some of them look like dried up old clay stuffed into the pot.
So getting this entire line!
Do you have any idea when the Feline Eye Kohl will be repromoted again? I’ve been dying to get my hands on it! Thanks!
@yjenn76 No, sorry!
@yjenn76 It’s permanent and listed on the MAC website.
I will advise those having trouble putting on the shadows to try it with a flat brush like a concealer brush for more opaque color. its a strange texture i know, but digging into the product will create the clumping you’ll see on the lid. If you are having trouble applying the product, feel free to ask your MAC artist. Remember, they do get trained to mess with this products beforehand and will be able to give you better tips on applying it the correct way!
