Breakdown of MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow – Part 1
The first six shades of MAC Electric Cool Eyeshadow ($18.50 for 0.07 oz.) that we’re going to go through are: Blacklit (black with multi-dimensional pearl), Brilliantly Lit (bright acid yellow green), Coil (copper bronze), Dynamo (mid-tone coral), Electroplate (cool gunmetal grey), and Fashion Circuit (bright kelly green). Please read my review for how these feel, wear, etc.
- Blacklit is a black with multi-colored shimmer–there was silver, teal, and blue that I spotted. It’s semi-opaque. This one did fade and didn’t apply as evenly as I’d like. Buxom Black Lab is nearly the same, but the black is less buildable, though it seems to pack more shimmer/sparkle. Chanel Mirifique is very similar but sparklier and much, much more pigmented. Lancome The New Black is similar but powder. Bobbi Brown Black Sparkle is also similar but a bluer black.
- Brilliantly Lit is a yellowy chartreuse with a soft shimmer finish. This was one of the more opaque shades, and it also applied more evenly than others. Buxom Shiz Tzu is much greener. NARS Rated R is just slightly greener. MAC Double Feature 2 is also a bit greener. MAC Bitter is similar but a smidgen greener.
- Coil is a medium-dark red-toned bronze with lighter bronze shimmer and a soft sheen. This was also one of the more opaque shades–it was one of the easier shades to work with and didn’t have any fading issues either. Buxom Golden Retriever is a dead-ringer for the color but it has a less metallic sheen. Milani Caramel Brown is a bit lighter. Clarins Enchanted Summer is very similar. MAC Havana is darker. Dior Aurora is slightly softer. There are a fair amount of similar shades to this type of brown.
- Dynamo is an orange-coral with a soft pink sheen. It has fairly good color payoff, but I did have problems with getting it to really show up well on the lid and wasn’t the nicest shade to blend. Guerlain by Emilio Pucci is darker, richer. Inglot #361 is pinker.
- Electroplate is a purplish-gray taupe with soft champagne sparkle and a semi-metallic finish. The color payoff was decent but less opaque on the lid during application. Buxom Pug is nearly the same, perhaps less purple-tinted. Chanel Illusoire is darker, has more of a blackened base. Make Up For Ever #2 is browner. MAC Dynamic Duo 3 is darker, less shimmery. MAC Keep Your Cool is darker, browner. Urban Decay Mushroom is a smidgen grayer. Giorgio Armani #4 is browner.
- Fashion Circuit is a green-based teal with silver sparkle and a slightly metallic sheen. The color payoff is good, but this one was a fader. Buxom Saint Bernard is greener. NYX Seafoam Green is a smidgen greener. Maybelline Edgy Emerald is barely bluer. NARS Misfit is much, much darker. MAC Aquadisiac is just a hair lighter. Urban Decay Minx is similar but has glitter. MAC Surf USA is richer, more intense. Make Up For Ever #168 is a touch greener and more frosted.

Dynamo looks cool!
Fashion Circuit, Dynamo (this one is SO gorgeous!!!), and Electric Plate are the ones I’m eyeing. Still not sure about the texture, but I’m willing to give it a go!
I like Electroplate and Dynamo the best from this group, but I’m a little bit cautious because Electroplate looks like an interesting color in the swatch but not applied to the eye in your review/test, and I really like the color of Dynamo but I would use it very blended or as a wash, and when you say “it wasn’t the nicest shade to blend” my hopes sank. My two favorites so far have been KO’d.

I like some of these and am not crazy about the colours of a few of them. And it seems so odd that some seem to fill the pan while others are pulled from the sides a bit or a lot. What a strange variety in what is supposed to be the same product formula (I think). But I realize that all the shades I like are versions of shadows I already have. It alarms me to say it, but I think I’ve reached “eye shadow saturation point”.

@Mariella I think it a sight of dry out consider most cream/gel product dose this as well. 😉 See these swatches make the me realize I DO have dupes of Fashion Circuit and Dynamo i was eyeing to round out my Yaby Pearl Paint palette. Fashion Circuit there is not a shade in my Yaby but if I mix a blue and a green I do get this shade.

@temptalia Ah okay, I was under the impression when I saw the promo’s that they were a solid shadow so your pictures confused me LOL!

I said I would take a pass, but I am curiously drawn to Brilliantly Lit.. the chartreuse colour. I have a Vince tank top in this colour and a matching Makowsky handbag I picked up on eBay for less than $50 buckerooos. I wear the tank under this fabulous crochet ‘over coat’.. I don’t know how else to describe it. Anyhow, lots of compliments whenever I wear so I thought it would look kinda cool to just have a hint of this colour in my makeup..perhaps on the inner third of my lid. This could also be something I pick up for next to nothing on eBay when the initial frenzy has worn off.. 🙂

Wow, I really like the bright colors in this collection, especially Fashion Circuit. I don’t usually spend that much on eyeshadows, but I may have to get one or two of these!
This is what I absolutely hate about MAC, we’ve seen all of these colours and shades before. Just because they put them in different collections and give them fancy new names does not change that fact. Dynamo however, would make a gorgeous blush.

Oh No- Electroplate is like the Bad Boy my momma warned me about… I know I should just say No but he’s so complicated…and sorta unusual and I think maybe I can make him work when other girls couldn’t … I need to stop these kind of relationships!
They all look awful in the pan as far as quality and texture goes… Or is that just me? I like the colors, though, but I’m not blown away by them.
Seems like MAC rushed through yet another LE release of a product they hadn’t quite gotten right. Saves me money…thanks for sharing!
I got dynamo, electroplate, and fashion circuit and I really love them! I wanted to get Brilliantly lit but when I swatched it was looking more golden yellow than like lime yellow (if that makes sense?). But maybe it was the lighting in the store…
@BIs4beauty Oh, I agree – it is more of a green-tinted yellow than a yellow-tinted green. Very yellowy indeed. There’s some green in it, definitely, but more yellow than green!
