MAC Double-Gleam Extra Dimension Skinfinish Review, Photos, Swatches
Double-Gleam
MAC Double-Gleam Extra Dimension Skinfinish ($33.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a light gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen.
The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula now features four, permanent shades–yay! (Finally!) According to MAC, it’s a highlighter that “lasts up to ten hours” with “prismatic reflections.” Double-Gleam was richly pigmented but could easily be sheered out or used with a less dense brush for a more moderate glow. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable, so it was easy to apply and work with on the face to highlight on cheekbones, down the bridge of the nose, and so forth. The shimmer in Double-Gleam seemed finer and smoother compared to past iterations in this formula, and I think it ended up being more forgiving on the skin overall. It has a much stronger sheen to it, so when worn at full coverage, it did emphasize my skin’s natural texture slightly. The highlighter started to fade after eight hours on me.

The Extra Dimension Skinfinish formula is supposed to give “the perfect glow to the skin” with a “creamy powder formula” that wears for “10 hours.” It’s a powder highlighter that I’d describe as a moderate to intense highlighter, and they come in varying hues with some that might work as highlighting blushes/bronzers are on some skin tones and true highlighters on other skin tones. In general, the formula is very pigmented, blendable, and wears around eight to nine hours on me.

Yay! Not a huge fan of this particular hue, but I am very excited for the lineup in general. And glad to hear that the formula is good. I’m so happy (like everyone else) that these are perm so I can take my sweet time!
I’m glad they made some permanent!
Interesting. Your swatches clearly pull gold (as you describe) but mine pull silver! I used it this morning and on my skin, it also pulls silver. They literally look like two completely different products.
That is interesting!
looked more silver on me, too! 🙂
That’s lovely!
It is!
You look so pretty Christine! I immediately knew your lipstick was by TooFaced since it’s so similar to the one that’s been on my holiday wishlist. TooFaced does duochrome shimmer lip products so well, and you wear it well.
Thank you, Tam!
One word: WOW!
I love how this one looks! It’s how I had hoped CP Lunch Money would have looked on me; pure GLOW.
It is nice!
Beautiful shade!! I’m in love
Agreed!
Oh so glad you are reviewing these! I held off b/c I have so many highlighters already, and these are permanent. I have multiple dupes for this one, but interested in the gold one, Beaming Blush, will watch for your review on that one.
Hopefully I will have it at some point! Unfortunately, my order went to the wrong state and nobody can correct it until it goes “out of transit,” and a reorder was unsuccessful and everything was cancelled. I’m so sorry, Katherine!
Oh no, what a mess! No need to apologize, not your fault. Hope MAC fixes soon.
I think this one is especially pretty on you, Christine!
Thank you, Fran!
I’m liking these more then I thought!
Woohoo!
As, now I see. Double gleam, double paste. Do not apologize. You’ve outdone yourself this season.
I know for sure I wrote it out, because I remember catching that when I posted the template of the post in (since they’re the same formula/price).
How pretty is that! Permanent you say. Good. It will be really interesting to swatch it and see it in person. It’s on the wishlist for now. Good feature, the wishlist!
YEP! Can you believe it?? I couldn’t, LOL!
I was going to reorder my MAC Lightscapade. I think I’ll try this instead this time 🙂
Oooh, this might be a good alternative to it! 🙂
Did you notice a shift?
I didn’t notice any color shift – it gets lighter/darker as light reflects off of it like any metallic finish would.
Oh wow, this should be the one for me as BECCA Moonstone is darker and I like that one.
Definitely need to try it in store later.
It’s surprisingly light but not WHITE! either!
Again not something I’d wear probably, but it looks nice on you. You have such good skin, you can get away with any color and any finish 🙂
Thank you!
How does it compare to becca moonstone?? Which one is more intense on the face??
Becca is more metallic!
I love the look but mine has an off smell very faint but almost musty. Is it just mine ?
I didn’t notice any scent!
How does double gleam compare to mac chez chez lame?? I already own chez chez lame and want to see if double gleam is worth the buy because it looks pretty!!
It seems similar, but I would say that Chez Chez Lame is darker and warmer.
