MAC Dazzle Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches (Part 2)

MAC Dazzle Lipstick
Dazzle Lipstick: Naughty You, Smash Hit, Snazzy, Sweet Bits, Troublemaker, Wham, Win-Win

MAC Dazzle Lipstick for the Glitter Lovers

Check out part one for details on the formula!

Dazzle Lipstick ($14.00 U.S. / $16.50 CDN)

  • Naughty You is a semi-opaque brightened medium pink with fuchsia glitter.  It’s a brighter, less cool-toned version of Troublemaker.  The application went on pretty even, and the glitter seemed to stay in place for the most part.
  • Smash Hit is a sheer beige-gold with darkened gold glitter. It’s a warmer version of Liquid Lurex.  Since it’s rather sheer, the glittery bits are more noticeable and thus look gritty rather than smooth (but again, it doesn’t feel gritty).  I’d use this layered underneath a lipgloss.
  • Snazzy is a semi-opaque, red plum with fuchsia-purple glitter.  This is one of the most pigmented shades of the thirteen dazzle lipsticks.  It has a nice level of color coverage and is also the most wearable, because it’s glittery without being metallic.
  • Sweet Bits is a semi-sheer grayish lilac with multi-color glitter. It’s kind of like Vex eyeshadow in lipstick form.  I find this color a little hard to wear on its own, so it’s definitely more of a layering shade.  It also has a tendency to look gritty (but it doesn’t feel that way) and has a decent amount of slip-slide with the glitter, so it may look uneven.
  • Troublemaker is a semi-opaque, darkened red-pink with fuchsia glitter. It’s a darker, more opaque version of Naughty You.  I had a lot of slipping with this shade–I definitely had to be careful not to press my lips together or else the color and glitter seemed to smear around and look uneven.
  • Wham is a red-brown with gold and copper glitter.  This one also had a fair amount of slipping when I pressed my lips together–so be careful should you choose this shade.
  • Win-Win is a light baby pink with blue undertones and lilac glitter.  It’s very cool-toned and almost veers on a lilac pink or a milky pink.  It’s very sheer, so it’s better layered with another product than alone, if only because it looks more obvious that you’re wearing glitter with it by itself.

  • Product: 25/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: I like the concept, just because it is fun and different from other lipsticks I have. I did find that some of the glitter can slip-slide and end up looking rather uneven on lips if you’re not careful about application. It’s not a big deal, because you just have to make yourself conscious of it.

I have “Naughty You” and I freakin’ love it!
It reminds me of maybe a little less vibrant, but with the same type of effect as “Preppy” Lipgelee from the Lilly P. Collection. And since it is a lipstick, it would get on my teeth and last longer, so it’s pure gold for me!

I also have Baby’s on fire, which is nice, but it just looks like a glitter frost and was expecting it to be a bit more ruby red than a bronze-red-pink that it goes on , on my lips.

Hey Christine, are you going to do a review on the Tom Ford Collection lipsticks, The Lipstick Queen’s lipsticks, or Besame’s lipsticks?

Petra Avatar

I agree! And I’m loving Win-Win too. Weird, because I’m ususally not drawn to these sheer-cool toned shades, but I actually think they look amazing against Your lip colour and warm skin tone…

JillyB Avatar

I bought Snazzy and Wham. Just trying them on at home, I liked the color and feel of both. I’ve worn Snazzy but haven’t worn Wham yet so I can’t say anything about the glitter. I really liked the colors though.

Loquita Avatar

Cuter than I expected on, but I would like some of the colors *much* better without the chunky glitter, esp. Wham Dazzle and Snazzy Dazzle…but since that defeats the entire concept, it looks like it’ll be a pass on these for me!

Fiaspice Avatar

I got Snazzy and I love it. I was a bit scared to buy before seeing lip swatch because hand swatch can be decieving. But it was perfect in the end.

Kathy Avatar

SO much nicer than I expected! They’re sparkly, but still very wearable! Some of the color payoff on these is impressive too.

Hm, do you think that I could get these through B2M? I know that I can get regular lipsticks at MAC counters, but I’m just wondering if these count too.

Karla Avatar

I love glitter, i got 5, wham (my fave), naughty you, liquid lurex, troublemaker, infused with glam & i also got the eyes brushes, but only cuz i fell in love with the brush roll that has the mac ribbon <3
now i want snazzy cuz i like how it looks on you Chris, this Nordie`s lippy collection has really, really excited me!

Mindy Avatar

It’s odd, they look a bit weird at first but on you they look awesome! It’s the specky part that throws me off but then I see how it looks with your whole look and all of a sudden they look okay again lol

kali Avatar

Thanks so much for posting lip swatches Christine. I was at MAC early last month swatching these and was torn because while they looked really pretty, they also didn’t at the same time (makes no sense.) The MUA asked if I wanted to put the try out a few shades (so I could decide to do presales or not) but I refused. Each lipstick had been through WWIII -they were beaten down, smooshed, and covered in dirt, dust, and hairs.

I walked away without ordering any but still obsessed over how they “might be great” and that I’d missed out on something fantastic. After seeing all your lip swatches though, I feel so relieved. I don’t feel like I’m missing out and the money will be going to Fabulous Felines and Venomous Villains.

Christine Avatar

There’s just something about the shades for me – it’s like they are a little muted or dusty or something. I don’t know. I wasn’t like OMG! and hey, I don’t mind a lil’ glitter. I think you could grab one or two… or you could pass and not worry about it.

They’ll be at regular MAC stores, too, on August 5th–so you have time. 🙂

OH! and there are a couple of Dazzles coming out with Fabulous Felines.

Lorna Avatar

i like glitter but for some reason i thought these looked so fake on. i don’t mind lots of glitter in lipgloss because i expect them to be shiny and glittery but in lipstick not so much. i think it’s more because i think of lipstick as imparting pigment and not shimmer to the lips.

i have to give MAC credit though for making these not feel gritty which was something i was afraid of.

this was a skip for me.

Q Avatar

Holy cow, Christine! You *need* Wham. You have amazing lips and you’re gorgeous anyway, but that lipstick just shines on you. <3

I kind of want all of these, but I can't wear half the colors and I'll have to see how they look first, but they look fun and you wear them well — just like everything. (So jealous of your coloring and cheekbones!)

Oooh — did you get any of the Rock & Republic stuff from HL this week? Seriously good deals with the coupon and the ebates rebate… Free blush = win!

Alejandra Avatar

Christine What are you wearing on your face an eyes if I may ask?
You are absolutely beautiful woman!Your skin looks really radiant and healthy.
My little sister(she’s 6) is like “Those lipsticks are SO cool”:D

Donna Avatar

I have use many different brands of lip sticks but have not tried Mac brand yet. I definitely am going to purchase some of the colors that are advertised above. Thank you ladies for showing off the different colors.

Sarah M Avatar

Oh my! Every single one of those lipsticks (in part 1 & 2) look sooo stunning on you. I love them. I usually don’t go crazy over lipsticks but I can see myself owning & wearing all of these. Arghhh! I’m going to miss being able to afford food. LOL. 😀

Lea Avatar

They look a bit like kids’ cosmetics, but I guess it’s good for those people who want glitter in their lipsticks without wearing lipgloss. Not quite my cup of tea and I don’t think the collection will come out here in Germany for some time. We’re always so behind on MAC collections.

shakz Avatar

OMG christine, i dunno what it is about these lipsticks (maybe the shimmer?) but they make your face look sooooo luminous. love win win tho awesome!!!! i need it lol

Miss Dee Canada Avatar

I love a little bit of shimmer in lipsticks, but when there is so much glitter in them I just hate the way that they feel. So chalky and gritty. I will be passing these up!

(PS they are already at the Bay counters in Canada)

Katherine Avatar

I pre-ordered these from Nordies and took them back. Absolutely, totally disliked them. They are the worst glitter fest I’ve ever seen in my life! I normally love most items MAC releases, but these and the Superglass release were both the worst ever! (and I actually like shimmer/glitter and love the Dazzleglass glosses)

monica Avatar

i cannot stand glitter/shimmer in my lipsticks. so i’ll definetely be skipping these. but to everyone else…enjoy. these are kinda different and it’s nice to see a bit of a change in a mac collection.

Rissy Avatar

Omg yay! Something I can actually resist from MAC I feel so proud. 🙂 no dazzleglasses ordazzle lippies for me, I rather go grab some of their perm items. 😀

serene Avatar

This batch looks gorgeous on you compared to the other batch that you posted together.

P.S. Don’t line your upper lid if it makes your eyes irritated… it isn’t worth it just to please a few idiots.

Really appreciate your hard work swatching and testing and reviewing!

Michelle Avatar

I am not a frost finish lipstick, so i knew this would not go over well with me, but i gave it a shot at nordstroms preview, and I felt 12 years old all over again.

Angela Jackson Avatar

I love Mac Dazzle lipsticks. I have “win win”,Its the best. I wear it alone, with a little lip moisturizer, or any type of lip softner, that prevent your lips from being chapped and looking old and rough. It’s almoct as good as the Dazzleglass lipgloss. I have got to get the shade, Liquid Lurex and sweet Bits.It makes your lips look attractive, and very beautiful. Mac Dazzle lipstick is new and up to date. Not like the other old, and boring lipsticks. This lipstick is new and hot!
