Broken Halo

MAC Broken Halo Grand Illusion Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a silvery, lavender with cooler undertones and fine pink, lavender, and gold pearl. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied somewhat evenly, but I could tell in the close-up that it applied more heavily in some places than others, though the settling was only minor (and not a surprise given the lightness of the color). The texture felt smooth going on, developed to a moderately tacky consistency, and had a minty, tingling sensation for 25 minutes. It wore well for four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview

$21.00/0.17 oz. - $123.53 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to "wear evenly" with "megawatt colour" and have a "tingly, cooling sensation" that makes lips "fuller." The coverage ranged from shade to shade, though most were fairly pigmented, and some seemed more multidimensional than others (they seemed just shimmery/pearly). Some shades applied evenly while others were more uneven or pulled into lip lines.

The finish had a lot of shine and shimmer, so any unevenness/settling wasn't as apparent in person as it might appear in close-up photos. The consistency was smooth as it applied and developed a lot of tackiness within a minute or so of application, and the tingling lasted noticeably for 20-25 minutes on me. The glosses lasted between four and five hours on me and were comfortable to wear but was mostly non-drying.

They have a sweet, mint scent and subtle tingle and almost seemed to have a slightly sweet taste, but I couldn't tell as I felt like I was breathing in the sweet mint a bit from the scent alone.

Sensory Overload

MAC Sensory Overload Grand Illusion Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a dark, bluish gray with cool pink, lavender, and teal pearl. It had good pigmentation, though it was not quite opaque, and appeared pinker and purpler on the lips than swatched, which was likely partially due to the natural pink tones of my lips coming through along with a lot of the pink pearl as I could see this one shifting to teal and pink as I moved. The consistency was medium in thickness, quite tacky, and smooth. The tingling sensation was apparent for 25 minutes, while the gloss itself lasted for five hours on me.

Peace, Love, Unity, Respect

MAC Peace, Love, Unity, Respect Grand Illusion Liquid Lipcolour ($21.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark, olive green base with lighter, emerald green pearl. It had semi-sheer coverage with a moderate of shimmer, but it applied unevenly and a lot of the shimmer pulled into my lip lines, too. The texture had a moderate amount of tackiness but did not feel thick on the lips. The tingling sensation lasted for around 20 minutes on me for this shade. It gloss stayed on for four hours on me and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.

Broken Halo is ok, but the the other two are just…why? Sensory Overload kind of reminds me of MAC’s On and On, which is a lipstick I regret spending my money on. As for Peace Love Unity Respect, I just can’t see how that could be flattering on anyone. Just my opinion.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I would hate for someone to think they couldn’t wear this color – that is what is so great about makeup, since you can wear whatever you want and it washes right off. Temptalia is the type of community that aims to accept all beauty and to enable everyone to feel good in whatever they want to wear (or not wear) without judgment from others 🙂

The product itself could be a lot better in terms of quality, though!

So sorry if that came off too harsh. That’s why I added “just my opinion” at the end. I should have been more specific and added that it’s not the fact that it’s green glitter that bothers me, but I think the formula just looks very patchy and uneven.

I understand maybe why they did it inspired by jewellery but yeah it’s a little late for Halloween with this one.

Easy pass for me as I’m not a gloss girl anymore for the most part. 😉

Broken Halo and Sensory Overload are gorgeous! If fact, I love Sensory Overload way more than my Bite Peacock, possibly!
As for the green one? NOOOOO. Too patchy, for one thing. Terrible lip shade on me, for another.

I like Sensory Overload but not sure I would ever wear it. I have MAC On and On and use it occasionally as a lip topper. I do like the effect it gives. I don’t think it is a dup for Sensory Overload but gives a similar effect.

I love sensory overload but I have both lavender and peacock pearl so I think I am covered there and for broken halo I have both ponyland and blush pearl which is a stunner!!! I really enjoy this prismatic/holographic like/ duochrome glosses. Hey are just so much fun!! Luckily you just saved me some money!

Very interesting and unusual shades, and for Peace, Love, Unity and Respect (love the concept – but it’s a bit of mouthful) – well that could have been of better quality.

Sensory Overload reminds me of OPI’s Peace, Love, & OPI nail polish. I now have a need to match my nail to my lips!

The makeup industry needs to hire me to do quality control on green lipsticks. Every time I see what should be a beautiful shimmery green and it comes out sheer and patchy, I want to cry.
