MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick
MAC Boyfriend Stealer Lipstick ($17.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “blackened plum [with a Cremesheen finish].” Chanel L'Impatiente (DC, $45.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Guerlain Bee (DC, $58.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Bite Beauty Bordeaux (DC, $28.00) is lighter, more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). MAC Berry Black Friday (LE, $20.00) is lighter (85% similar). MAC Dramatic Encounter (LE, $19.00) is warmer, darker (80% similar). Dior Fashion Night (881) (P, $35.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Rebel (P, $19.00) is brighter (80% similar). Urban Decay Apocalypse (DC, $22.00)(90% similar). Thierry Mugler Dream (-, $28.00)(90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
This was released as a limited edition a fair amount of time again (I’m trying to review some of the “orphans” I have in my folder), but it is still available for purchase. It had semi-sheer coverage that went on unevenly, and the texture seemed to bunch up and look crumbly–there were ragged bits of color that made the finish look bumpy. It wore for three hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Too bad this didn’t perform better. It’s a really pretty color!
Agreed!
That looks awful up close, what a dud. 🙁
Right? 🙁
I really like this one. Because it is as a Cremesheen formula it is a very versatile colour. I apply it over my berry, plum and even pink lip colours to alter and create a deeper look. Great in the winter when brights just don’t seem to work.
Great idea, Chelsea!
Even though it’s not the best it might be a good one for people who want to baby step into vampy shades.
Possibly!
What a shame about those bumpy bits! Because otherwise, this is a beautiful color. It could have been a winner if it didn’t have bizarre texture issues. Sadly, my first use of Melted Villian looked not much better before Rachel R give me the kneading the tube info! I am actually wearing it in my updated, and yes “antiqued”, avatar!
I get so frustrated when lipsticks do that 🙁
Meh. I feel like MAC has such a variance in quality when it comes to their collections. I’m bummed to see that this shade isn’t that great.
They definitely have hits and misses!
Pretty color, hate the name
I can see why!
I love the color, but it’s so matchy and gummy/sticky looking. Hard pass for me.
*patchy
I love the concept as well — wish they executed it better!
Oh man. I almost bought this a few weeks ago and I’m glad I didn’t.
Phew! 😀
It’s a shame this performed so poorly.
There really isn’t much in the dupe gallery that is close to this.
Why are purples so difficult!?
I wish I knew why 🙁
Beautiful colour – but sad to see a C rating. Oh dear.
I wish it was better!
Yeah, this is definitely a safe skip.
Sadly so! 🙁
Hmm, I like the shade but don’t like the ‘bits’ that collect on the lips – not the most attractive of looks. It’s Cremesheen anyway which spreads on me.
And a deeper shade like this is probably even worse than the usual Cremesheen for feathering 🙁
I was so tempted to get this when it came out in the Archie’s Girls collection until I saw how sheer it was in swatches. I usually like Cremesheens but not in vampy colors. This would have been a pretty lipstick if it was a matte or satin with a better formula
Vampy colors can be hard to do right in a sheerer formula!
The texture looks scary!
It was sooo streaky!
The color is so pretty, shame it didn’t work out very well!
I agree, Kayle!
Oh that’s just sad. If it were opaque OR evenly translucent, that’d make it usable.
If only…
I wish there were better dupes; I really like this color — a lot! But a C? For MAC prices? No.
Seems like ColourPop ought to have something similar. Maybe LBB?
I bet they do!
Oh yeah, patchy, boo.
So sad!
I’m not sure if maybe they changed the formula or if maybe I just build mine up a little more than you have in this swatch? But I have the Archie’s Girls packaging of this one, and I love it! It applies on me quite opaque and evenly with a little bit of building but nothing crazy. It doesn’t wear nearly as long as my matte finishes but I don’t expect that from a cremesheen so I’m okay with it! Maybe I just got lucky! Always love and value your reviews, Christine!
Happy you like yours, Stephanie 🙂
I really love the color but that rating just won’t do. I have Givenchy’s Noir and, applied over certain lipsticks, it creates a shade that’s really similar… so I don’t feel like I need this one.
I hear you 🙁
i have this from the Archie’s Girls collection. it became my go-to because i prefer dark lip colours and since it’s sheer it’s a quick application, i don’t have to be precise like with a matte. But honestly I wouldn’t buy it now. it was only worth it with the cute Veronica packaging.
Well, I am glad you were able to enjoy the one you got 🙂
Is this maybe also similar to MAC Musky Amethyst? I know that one was more metallic and with a frost finish, but it still looks similar to me.
This is darker, less warm-toned, I would say 🙂
I have this one but from the Archie’s girls collection. This looks better if a lip liner is used. I use it with Mac’s lip liner in Nightmoth and it seems to work well!
Thanks for the tip, Amirah!
