MAC Alluring Aquatic Lipglasses Reviews, Photos, Swatches

MAC Clear Water Lipglass
MAC Clear Water Lipglass

MAC’s Alluring Aquatic collection contains five, limited edition shades of Lipglass. The formula on these is medium-thick, moderately tacky (only one is thicker and tackier, noted below), and vanilla-scented. They perform and feel similarly to past iterations of Lipglass. All of them have shimmer except one, and for the most part, they’re so shimmery that they’re the type of gloss that looks more impressive in person, as the light reflects off of the shine and shimmer. You’ll find these online on May 15th, in-stores on May 22nd for North America, and “May 2014” for international locations.

MAC Clear Water Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “sheer nude with multidimensional pearl.” It’s a sheer beige with silver, white, and iridescent cool pink shimmer and sparkle. The underlying base “color” is definitely sheer, but it adds a fair amount of shimmer, which gives it more of an impact applied. It wears three hours on me, and it could be used alone or to add shimmer over any lip color. MAC Oh My Darling (LE, $15.00) is more beige. MAC Boundless Beige (P, $19.50) is also more beige. MAC Like Venus (P, $20.00) has more pink shimmers. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Modern Lure Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep violet with pink pearl.” It’s a cool-toned, medium-dark berry-red with a smattering of cool-toned, fuchsia pink shimmer. This is one of the less shimmery shades, so the sparkle effect is subtle. It had semi-opaque color coverage, and it applied fairly evenly and only lightly settled into lip lines. In general, it applied better than a lot of other semi-opaque berry glosses I’ve tried, but it’s not perfect. It is nice for layering over pinks and plums as well. This shade wore well for four hours on me. Maybelline Caviar Couture (050) (P, $8.99) is brighter. MAC Lust for Life (LE, $15.00) is brighter, warmer. MAC Rebel (LE, $15.00) is cooler-toned. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Peachstock Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “creamy true nude.” It’s a light-medium, muted peach with a cream finish. This shade has been released previously, and the formula has changed slightly–it is thinner, so it didn’t settle as noticeably into lip lines and was easire to apply. The color lasted for three and a half hours on me. Maybelline Sandy Sensation (115) (LE) is lighter. MAC Innocent (LE, $20.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Calypso Beat (LE, $20.00) is darker. MAC Liquid Passion (LE, $15.00) is warmer. MAC Myth (LE, $15.00) is a touch lighter. MAC Illicit (LE, $15.00) is a bit darker. MAC Fashion Whim (LE, $20.00) is similar. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Seducing Sound Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “mid-tone plum bronze.” It’s a warm-toned, plummy brown with bronze and plum shimmer. This one is very shimmery with semi-opaque color coverage and even more shimmer coverage. It wears for four hours, and it the consistency was thinner than the average Lipglass. MAC Underdressed (LE, $15.00) is darker. MAC Liqueur (LE, $15.00) is redder. Bobbi Brown Bronzed Heather (P, $24.00) is lighter. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

MAC Water Deities Lipglass ($16.50 for 0.17 fl. oz.) is described as a “light bronzy pink.” It’s a a light, coppery-brown with champagne and bronze shimmer. It had semi-sheer to semi-opaque color coverage; the actual “color” of the base seems semi-sheer, but there is a lot of shimmer in it, so the shimmer makes it seem like it has more coverage. This shade wore well for four hours on me. NARS Orgasm (P, $26.00) is pinker. MAC Flare for Fantasy (LE, $20.00) is also pinker. NARS Bimini (P, $26.00) is sheerer, finer shimmer, lighter. Tom Ford Beauty Pink Lust (LE, $30.00) is less glossy. MAC Double Happiness (LE, $20.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Pretty swatches. Are there no water droplets on these caps, Christine? I really want to get something with the full-on pretty packaging.

Christine Avatar

Still textured slightly, but the water droplets are much flatter on the Lipglass tops. Almost like the water was smeared on, rather than with really distinct droplets. You know, if that makes ANY sense, lol!

If you want full on droplets, I’d recommend blushes, eyeshadows, or lipsticks. The Bronzing Powder (Refined/Golden) has them, too, and I think the Extra Dimension Bronzers will as well (but I don’t have those to confirm).

Thanks for the thorough response! These summer collections get me every time. I LOVED Temperature Rising last year and now this one has me swooning. = )

Totally agree! I always reach for a MAC Lipglass despite owning much higher end brands. I enjoy the scent and its tackiness, which makes it something like a “half lipstick.”

I guess I’m not in a shopping mood because none of this collection is wowing me. But the packaging!!!! I love it! Amazingly adorable concept. So…I might have buy an item or two. I’ll wait until your round up before deciding…and see what you liked best….

I somehow like how all except Peachstock look. Even Clear Water is pretty. Might get Water Deities, though it seems similar to last year’s Soft Serenade…

Seducing sound here i come!!

Finally a collection that I really like! I got email from mac about it and I cant wait to have some pretty things!!!!!!! PERFECT packaging!!!

I was waiting for your reviews!!!

Jules Avatar

And is cheaper and presumably doesn’t have that weird stickiness I’ve felt with Dazzleglass but not Lipglass! Yay.

I’m definitely getting Seducing Sound. I’m very pale (nw10) and don’t normally look good in pale nude colors, but I’m interested in Clear Water and Water Deities. I like the sparkle in Clear Water, but does it let your lip color show through, or does the heavy shimmer make lips look paler? Does Water Deities have enough of a bronze color and pigment so it doesn’t look pale and frosty? I’d be into Clear Water if it was clear enough, and Water Deities if it was dark enough to warm me up. I can’t tell if either (or both) will wash me out :/

Michaela Avatar

I’m not normally into sparkly lipglosses, or lipglosses in general, but I would easily pick up the ones from this collection! It would have been cool if they had done a blue/seafoam-ish color!

Lizzi Avatar

This is the coolest packaging I’ve seen from MAC in a good while. I want to get a few pieces just to have a bit of the packaging for my collection. But none of it will be lipglosses. I have no business buying a lipgloss. Maybe 2 of the lipsticks, an eyeshadow, and maybe a blush. But I’m saving my MAC money for the Osburne collection. 😉

Jules Avatar

I love the color of Modern Lure! What a shame it settles into lines so much. Maybe I’ll just layer a tiny bit of Revlon Adorned gloss over MAC Rebel lipstick and see if I get something similar…

I like these a lot more than the Playland lipglasses. Might pick up one of the sparkly nudes – I love Oh Baby by MAC so I think Seducing Sound would definitely be worth trying out as a variation. Do you know how Clear Water looks over a bright lipstick?

Lotus Avatar

Clear Water & Water Deities are my favorites, especially Clear Water, but they all picked up a natural luminosity in your face, which is greatly appealing. Thanks for the review! I may not be able to resist at least one… Still curious about the rest of the collection… That packaging, though! o_O 🙂 xoxo! On to the blush/bronzes! 😀 <3

Adhishree Avatar

That packaging though! SO GORGEOUS. I think it’s one of the best MAC LE packaging! and the lipglasses are so pretty. especially clear water.

Mariana Avatar

How do MAC’s shimmery lipglasses compare to Bobbi Brown’s High Shimmer lip gloss Christine? I really like how Modern Lure looks, but the only shimmery lip gloss I’ve ever loved are Bobbi’s. Are they similar in any way?

Jade Avatar

I really like Clear Water and Water Deities (just like everyone else lol!), though Clear Water may be too cool – I have that problem with Bobbi Brown Firefly, though it’s freaking awesome.

Natalia Avatar

The packaging is beautiful IMHO! Will definitely get something from this collection 🙂

As I can see, Peachstock is a dupe for Liquid Passion, which is my all time favorite MAC lipglass for summer, so I’ll definitely be getting it!

Ashley Avatar

Thank you for the beautiful swatches!! I always look forward to your reviews.
I wanted to know how Clear Water Lipglass compares to Glamour Daze Lipglass in Impossibly Sweet?

Thank you again!! Xo
