MAC Aim to Please Velvetease Lip Pencil
MAC Aim to Please Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “dirty mauvey brown.” It’s a muted, medium-dark reddish-plum with warm undertones and a soft, matte finish. It had mostly opaque color payoff with a smooth, even application. It was neither drying nor hydrating and lasted for four hours on me. MAC Anything Goes Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “rosey fuchsia.” It’s a bright, medium red with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, but the natural lip color is definitely going to influence the shade. This shade was on the drying side after three hours of wear, while it lasted for closer to five in total. MAC Pomegranate (LE, $25.00) is darker (90% similar). NARS Luxembourg (PiP, $25.00) is darker (95% similar). Clinique Cherry Pop (P, $19.50) is darker, brighter (90% similar). MAC Damn Glamorous (LE, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Frolic Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “midtone peachy pink.” It’s a light-medium, pinky-peach with warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. There is very fine pearl that gives the finish a subtle sheen at some angles. It had semi-opaque color coverage with a glide-on texture that didn’t tug, but it seemed to emphasize every imperfection on the lips. The color lasted for three hours and settled into lip lines over time. It was lightly drying.
FORMULA SUMMARY | MAC Velvetease Lip Pencil ($20.00 for 0.05 oz.) is supposed to have “the vivid colour impact of a lipstick” with a “smooth” and “matte finish.” The pencil has a really soft, smooth texture that is thin and glides on without tugging or skipping, but it is noticeably thin on the lips, which I find can be unforgiving if you have any dryness or flakiness on your lips. The wear is between three and five hours with lighter shades disappearing more quickly and deeper shades lasting a little longer and/or staining. They are slightly drying to just not drying (but none are hydrating). Overall, they are comfortable to wear, but a few shades tend to look patchy as they wear down on me. They are twist-up, jumbo-sized lip pencils, so they don’t require sharpening (no waste!). Keep in mind, twist-up jumbo pencils like this one often contain less product than a traditional lipstick (which usually contain 0.10 to 0.15 oz.).

I was surprised to not see NARS’ Dolce Vita among the Aim to Please dupes. Do you think they’re similar, Christine? I find Aim to Please gorgeous but I already own Dolce Vita, so my wallet would be safe from that shade at least lol
The images for the Sheer Lipstick were showing on the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (they were on the same post, and when I import the products, same names mean it takes all the images), and I was an idiot and didn’t catch that (I normally make note of it to manually remove the wrong images). They should be fixed now.
Here is the comparison: http://www.temptalia.com/side-by-side?sbs_1_search=MAC+Aim+to+Please&sbs_1=215477&sbs_2_search=NARS+Dolce+Vita&sbs_2=111496
I’m raring to try this because of it’s dupability(is that even a word?) to Dolce Vita! I looove Dolce Vita, but its longevity on me is just crap. My pencil now is just a nub.
I like ’em all! Aim To Please stands out for me though. So it definitely managed to live up to its name for me 🙂
That one seems to be the favorite of the set!
I like Aim to Please, but the formula doesn’t sound as good as BITE. At $ 20 for .05 oz, these are better deal than the BITE Matte Lip Crayons ( $24 for .05 oz) but expensive compared to the BITE High Pigment Lip Pencils ( $20 for .09 oz), and all are twist up pencils. The most expensive is the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($26 for .086 oz) AND you have to sharpen it.
Bite’s is better, IMO!
Anything Goes is a good one for me color wise!
Yay!
I really like how aim to please looks on you, do you think it’s similar to brick- o-la lipstick by Mac?
I think Brick-o-la is a little pinker, but they are somewhat similar. If Brick-o-la runs warmer on you, then it might be even closer!
Anything Goes is a very pretty shade. I think I’d pass on this formula, though.
It’s not bad, but it’s also not amazing. It leaves me feeling rather neutral, which isn’t good either, lol!
Frolic on you reminds me of how MAC Ravishing looks on me! I really like that one, but with just .05 at $20, I don’t think so. Unless it’s some totally unusual and difficult to dupe shade, I don’t think I’ll be getting any of these due to the rather over-inflated price for this paltry amount of product.
Ravishing seems more comfortable, I think!
As pretty as these colours are, I can tell that they would be a bit to a lot dehydrating on the lips over time. Hmmm.
I wish these were better!
I love the look of Aim to Please, but I already own the first four dupes haha
The colors are nice! How would you compare the formula to the NARS Velvet Matte pencils?
I’m a bit torn on these. I was able to test them in store last Thursday and they are a lot more sheer than I was expecting the two shades I was interested in are Frolic and Aim to Please.
Do these pencils have the signature MAC vanilla scent? I’m hoping they do. 🙂
They had a slight scent to me!
