L'Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
L’Oreal Paris Beach Colour Riche Eyeshadow
L’Oreal Colour Riche Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.12 oz.) is supposed to be “soft, velvety” in texture with “intense pigments for exquisite color richness” and “lasts all day.” The texture is incredibly soft; to the point where I’m not sure these would travel as well as your average powder eyeshadow. The lighter, more matte shades are very white-based and can look chalky on my skin tone but should work better on fairer skin tones or coupled with a smoothing primer. Most of the shades were fairly pigmented and blendable on the lid with good adhesion without a primer with a few exceptions. Unsurprisingly, neutrals were more consistently higher-performing than the bolder/more colorful shades. I did run into wear issues, as all the shades I tried either faded and/or creased within six hours of wear, so I would recommend a primer with these. Initially, they reminded me of formulas like Make Up For Ever Artist Shadow, Kat Von D Metal Crush, etc., but while these have a similar velvety, smooth feel, they are looser once you touch your brush to them.
L’Oreal Paris Beach Colour Riche Eyeshadow ($5.99 for 0.12 oz.) is a very light, warmer white with a matte finish. It had good color payoff that applied fairly well and blended out with ease, but it made my lids look a bit drier than than they did without eyeshadow. This shade lasted for six hours before fading. These seme like good value. I’m eyeing pain au chocolat and café au lait (and imagine I’m in Paris 🙂 )
They are a good value!
Thanks so much for your review! I can’t tell you how many times I passed these by at the DS but couldn’t pull the trigger. I was hoping to grab a few on sale for travel/touch ups, but was worried they wouldn’t travel well. I might still try if there’s a unique color.
No problem, Katherine! Sorry it took so long!
None of them broke on me, but it literally seems like the product is in the plastic compact without a metal pan or anything.. and some of the powder fill levels were a bit above. I feel like it could break in chunks.
I might pick up Quartz Fume for all over shade for me. I wanted to like Pain au Chocolat thou…
Let me know what you think of the formula should you try it, Aj!
All very wearable colors, great for everyday. I don’t think I’ve ever tried L’Oréal eyeshadow…
I haven’t tried any in what feels like awhile, until these!
I’ve been putting a dent in my Paris Beach shade…. it looks well worn now with divots in the surface. lol
Sunset Seine and Quartz Fume are 2 of the 5 shades they don’t sell in Canada…. 🙁 I still want them.
Nice! Do you have any issues with wear for the formula? I want to like it more than I do, because the texture is nice for the most part, but the wear makes me sad!
I did have issue without a primer with these shades fading. But I never wear my shadows without a primer when not testing products out, so these shades last all day with a primer for me and my hooded eyes. But I use also a good primer which helps!
Happy to hear! 🙂
I have Sunset Seine and like it a lot. I’ve been waiting for your review so I could decide if I need another one. I think I’ll go with Pain Au Chocolat.
Awesome to hear you’ve been enjoying Sunset Seine!
L’Oreal owns UD now, right? Very interesting that there are no UD dupes. All in all, quite decent. For a monochromatic style look, your eye is lovely. We get so used to colorful looks. It’s time to appreciate something more subtle. Sounds as if these were much easier to work with than Alice 2. The only drawback I see is that they would not depot. This is a classic set and eminently wearable.
They seemed more subdued/less frosty compared to possible UD shades!
I passed on these several times in favor of palettes (I hate having a bunch of singles floating around!), but thought about depotting them. Since that is not an option, I’ll definitely will be skipping… I’ve been a fan of L’Oreal shadows for decades, and took a chance on all 3 of the large palettes, and found them to be a better option for my needs. The Noir palette is a bit tricky, but the Nudes ate great!
I haven’t dug into them to really see, but they don’t seem to be depottable. I could be wrong since I didn’t do a full investigation 😉
That weartime, though…Drats! Although I do always wear primer, so that would help, I suppose. The other thing being that I already have dupes for many of these shades reviewed, except one that caught my eye by surprise. Cafe` Au Lait. But with MAC Pro pans costing just as much, I think perhaps Copperplate may be a better value due to it having a more secure pot.
Primer should help! 🙂
I have Sunset Seine! Oddly enough, it feels more like a cream than a powder, so I have to be vigilant about putting on primer beforehand. I couldn’t resist the color (even though I have several shadows like it); it goes marvelously with my blue/gray eyes.
Yes, these definitely feel like a cream-powder hybrid!
I’m personally loving these! Managed to get them on sale, so about $3.25 each…wear time hasn’t been an issue for me, except meet me in Paris. But mademoiselle pink, noir ce noir & pain au Chocolat last about 8-9 hours, I’d say? For reference, my lids are normal to slightly oily, and I usually use my fingers to apply–I find they smooth out better that way. Pain au Chocolat has become my standard one and done go to for lighter makeup days! On my fair, cool complexion, it looks cooler toned–still a light taupe, but I pull out more of the silvery pink tones in it.
What was the issue you had with Meet Me in Paris, Julie?
Fading! Surprisingly, I haven’t had any creasing issues, which I can be prone to, since my eyes are heavily hooded. But Meet Me in Paris faded after about 5-6 hours on me, while the other 3 colors I wore were still going strong.
Interesting how one did that but not the others. Just goes to show you that things can vary from shade to shade quite a bit!
These look great, but the wear time concerns me. Even over primer, I’m not sure if they’d last on oily lids.
Totally understand! It sounds like readers who have commented on wear have been OK so far with primer! Ginny D mentioned she had very oily lids and had excellent wear with NARS’ primer!
Thank you for the info. That’s good to know.
I was so excited about these coming to the US. They have been out in the UK For some time. I was pretty impressed with these, except For the creasing issue that you mentioned. I use eyeshadow primer religiously anyway, so the creasing wasnt an issue for me. The pigmentation and texture are fabulous, especially For drugstore. They are really stepping up their game!
Yes, the wear time is solvable with primer at least 🙂 Not always the case for some of the more shorter-wearing products (for me) but true in this instance.
I wear Little Beige Dress every day as a transition color and it never fades or creases. I always wear my eyeshadows w a primer so I cannot say for what it is like w/o. I definitely would give these an A rating. A good drugstore gem!
That’s great to hear, Erica!
I have very oily eyelids and I’ve only tried 3, 2 neutral ones and the blue one. I was a bit disappointed in the blue one in that I needed to use a base to really make it pop but Pain au Chocolat and Little Beige Dress have become some of my go-tos and I found excellent wear-time even without my trusty Nars Smudgeproof (or it’s dupe, Nyx Waterproof). These other swatches make me want to pick up more!
Great to hear that the ones you’ve tried hold up with primer on your oily lids, Ginny!
The quality seems great for the price. I can myself putting together a “Parisienne” look.
Very true!
The Quartz Fume and Pain Au Chocolat colours are beautiful. Even the mattes were decent compared to what some brands put out. For the price, the results were quite reasonable.
The mattes are very blendable, too!
I love Mademoiselle Pink and Quartz Fume. I often use Paris Beach on the browbone and blend it out. I use my Milani Primer and they last all day (from about five in the morning till about 8 at night).
Awesome to hear!
I picked up Pain au Chocolat. What type of brush did you use to apply these? I tried a natural hair brush but it didn’t pick up the color well. Their website recommends using your finger, so I tried that, but I’m not really comfortable doing that regularly. I was thinking a sponge tip applicator might work better, but was curious as to how others are applying these.
I used MAC’s 239 with no issues myself, but maybe try a flat synthetic brush?
I use my finger or a sponge applicator and basically just pat them on where I want and then use an Eco Tools blender to blend everything out. It does work for me. As far as the brow I just lightly tap it on lightly with my finger.
I have been eyeing these, but hesitated to grab them – the texture of the shadows before use, or the pattern on the top i guess, makes them all look a bit shimmery. Until I saw your swatches I wasn’t sure if any were mattes! I’ll try a few now tho. For the price, with a primer, I’d give em a go!
I think about half or more are mattes! 🙂
I wonder if Café au Lait would be a good contouring shade for the fair-skinned out there. 🙂 I think I’ll have to try it!
Let me know if it works, Elina!
Pain au Chocolat will look amazing for a single color eyeshadow look! xo
I found that L’oreal Color Riche eyeshadow in Little Beige Dress is an almost perfect dupe for Urban Decay’s eye shadow in Stark. I didn’t realize it until after I bought LBD and swatched that I looked at my other eyeshadow palettes and found Stark in the Naked 2 Basics and in the Gwen Stefani palette. So if you like UD Stark then go buy L’oreal Little Beige dress.
