Kat Von D Backstage Bambi Everlasting Liquid Lipstick ($19.00 for 0.22 fl. oz.) is described as a “vivid hot pink.” It’s a neon, cotton candy pink with strong, blue undertones and an ultra-matte finish. There are certainly similar shades in regards to the color, but this is the most matte of all I’ve come across. Kat Von D Backstage Bambi (P, $21.00) is less blue-based. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pop-arazzi (606) (P, $28.00) is glossier. Melt Cosmetics Stupid Love (P, $19.00) is cooler-toned. MAC Kelly Yum-Yum (LE, $16.00) is less blue-based, less matte. Sephora + Pantone Universe Radiant Rush (LE, $18.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Moscato (P, $28.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Satsuma (LE, $24.00) is glossier. Chanel La Diva (44) (P, $34.00) is less matte. MAC Candy Yum Yum (P, $16.00) is less matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

This shade delivers exceptionally well on all but hydration–the formula feels drying after four hours of wear, and it gets more drying until I take off–but the color coverage is excellent, while it was still wearing quite well even after eight hours. You can easily eat most meals (any meal with higher oil content will break down makeup, though), and I like that it doesn’t flake away or fade unevenly. It’s the type of formula that goes on as a creamy, liquid lipstick but then dries down fully to a totally flat, matte finish. You have to work fairly quickly when you are applying it, and you want a thin, even layer to get a really smooth application. It will leave a stain that lingers for hours after. It’s not as comfortable to wear as a more emollient, traditional lipstick, but it doesn’t feel totally like cling-wrap on the lips either. I wish it was more “not drying,” but the trade-off of rich, truly long-wearing color might be worth it for some.

Yeah, YouShop worked when it was first introduced but I went to use it again a few months ago and Sephora was like, NO, so that was disappointing. I’ve never tried Ship it to, most of those forwarding companies are pretty expensive :/

I have to get some of these. The finish is just amazing to a matte lover like me. And you could also use them as a base. Layer Candy Yum Yum over this and your lipstick will last the whole weekend!

Actually, I’ll have to contradict that. I don’t have this exact brand but I have many other lipsticks of this type(liquid to matte) with all kinds of different characteristics(some of those lipsticks seem to be dead on to the KVD ones) and from my experiences I can tell that when you apply anything creamy/glossy on top of your perfectly matte lipstick, it will eventually soak the bottom layer in and it will break down unevenly and after you rub your lips you end up in…yes, a disturbing, thick layered, patchy, blotchy, nasty feeling and etc. and etc. mess on your lips.

I always do all kinds of crazy “i’ll put this on that and then mix with this” experiments and the liquid to matte+something on top has never turned out well. It might seem fine at first(depend on the products) but after some time the same thing happens to all. In the best key scenario you will just end up having a regular creamy lipstick finish as the bottom one will soak in and sort of attach itself to the outer layer resulting in the mix having the wear time/power of a regular lipstick.

Maybe it could work for longer periods if you applied something very dry on top, but I really would take some make-up wipes and a lipstick to re-apply with me as all the magic of these liquid to matte lipsticks wear time is them being completely dry on your lips.

I’ve layered cream lipsticks and glosses over liquid-matte formulas and never had a mess–it actually helps stave off that parched feeling in my lips. I just have to be sure not to rub my lips together. Of course, it ruins the ultra-matte finish, and I can’t say for *sure* that it actually makes it last any longer (I was just jokin’).

I’ve tried layering it like that and it works quite well, and CYY is pretty matte itself so it’s not that different of a finish on top of these.

I’ve layered a Bite lipstick over an Hourglass stain and never get that patchy issue. I think it depends on the base ingredients and how they work together. I have put plain old Chapstick over stains before and haven’t had any issue. I think waxy doesn’t break down things like oily does. But that has been my experience, I did try to put something over L.U.V today. One of the Korres Lip Butters, and no, that didn’t work out well. I could have worn it if I didn’t rub my lips together. But I do that out of habit sometimes.

I love this! So insanely bright! I don’t know that I could pull it off, though. I think you accidentally filed it under a MAC tag, though. 🙂

I would love it if you would review some of Sephora’s Cream Rouge Stains(?) They get amazing reviews. When I was in the store today, I swatched the whole line, and they have the *exact* smell and initial finish/consistency of the KVD Liquid Lipsticks! And because they are owned by the same company, they might be incredible dupes, though the shade range is completely different.
