JD Glow Galaxy Shadows (x15) & Illuminators (x6) | Swatches
JD Glow has been on my radar of brands I’ve been following on social/watching to review in the future, and as a lot of the beauty community has looked to highlight and support Black-owned beauty brands recently, it was time to dive into this brand! I bought 15 of the JD Glow Galaxy Shadows ($7.50 for 0.095 oz.), which is definitely the product I hear most about. I also bought six pressed JD Glow Illuminators ($16.50 for 0.28 oz.). They also have metallic, shimmer, and matte eyeshadows, but a lot of them were sold out when I placed my order (I’m sure they’ll restock soon!).
Please make sure you click on any item that interests you to view full photos, including additional swatches.
Wow the entire 3rd and 4th row of shadows are really beautiful, especially bora bora, peacock, and fairy acid. And the illuminators look nice too.
Awesome! Klarity Kosmetics is another amazing Black-owned hand-made indie brand I can recommend – they quality is great. Ace Beaute, which you swatched before, is also Black-owned.
Whoa!! ?
These are off-the-chart kind of gorgeous! Fairy Acid, Unexpected, Bestie, N-Sane, Starluster and Prismatic are my favorite eyeshadows. And I just LOVE that Serenity highlighter! Periodt is a very interesting icy looking one that I may end up wanting, too.
I gave up trying to order from them a long time ago. I can’t keep up with their restocks and everything I see that I want to buy is sold out.
Have had my eye on their collections for a while now, especially some of their blue / purple eyeshadows but waiting to pull the plug. I tend to only purchase brands that you have reviewed because I really trust your opinion. One thing I have read in reviews that has deterred me is the claim that these shadows do not have a long shelf life and people have complained about them “going off” in a short period of time. Would be very curious to hear your opinions and experiences with these in terms of their longevity!
Have you heard of Clionadh, Give Me Glow, and Terra Moons? Do you think you would ever review them?
Yes, I’ve heard of them! It’s hard to say if I would review anything without having the product in-hand and actually having tested products AND knowing my workflow at that moment. There are a fair number of products I’ve photographed, swatched, posted, tested, AND then not had time to write out a review for!
Thanks Christine! 🙂 I can imagine you are super busy especially with all of the frequent launches so I was just curious. I have never purchased from an indie brand – bigger brands like MAC or Nars have an established track record in their favor that smaller companies may not have time to establish but definitely helps earn my trust in the brand. I have been thinking about Sydney Grace eyeshadows ever since you featured them but still debate making a decision
If you are dipping your toes in, I’d definitely pick an indie brand that has a shorter turnaround – this means they basically have stocked items and then ship out within a week or so. JD Glow shipped out within a day or two of my order, and I know Sydney Grace has been quick to ship my orders in the past as well (one of the things I liked about them). Fyrinnae is usually a week or so, but they have been around for a very, very long time so they are extremely well-vetted!
Clionadh is a VERY long turnaround time (even longer with COVID-19), even though I’ve heard so many great things!
Give Me Glow has a pretty fast turn around, but Terra Moons takes ~1 month to get an item. I like both the brands. Give Me Glow is more similar to JD Glow, the pans are the same large size and their shimmers are foiled metallics.
I’ve had my JD Glow shadows for about 2 years now and I haven’t had any problems with mine! And you should definitely pull the plug on trying an indie brand or two–actually, I think JD Glow was the first indie brand I ever tried and I really haven’t looked back since! Sydney Grace makes some of the best mattes on the market, indie or mainstream. Clionadh’s shadows are awesome but they take a very long time to process. Devinah is a brand I’d recommend if you want to try something with a quick turnaround time! They always announce their next restocks via instagram or their email list, and their Galaxy Dust & Candy Cakes are some of my favorites in my collection. 🙂
Sydney Grace is fantastic! In the past, they have had a Christmas in July sale (and take the Temptalia discount in addition to their sale prices), so that might be a good time to start. I’ve also tried Terra Moon. They do have a longer turn around time, but I found them to be honest about it. They said right up front that it would be a few weeks and then it turned out to be sightly less than that. Terra Moon’s website is extremely easy to use and helpful. They describe the colors and then tell you if they recommend a primer with them and if they are safe for eyes, lips, or face (or all three). Overall, I was very happy with the eyeshadows and highlighters I ordered and have plans to pick up some more colors.
I have all of the galaxy shadows and have had some of them for a very long time and not one has gone bad for me. Unexpected is very creamy, feels different than the rest and that one I’ve had the longest and it feels like it did when I purchased it.
I’m happy to see you are reviewing JD Glow! They have some really great eyeshadows. I especially like the really sparkly ones; my favs are Unexpected, 365, Good Gawd (this one is very interesting), Watermark, & Anomaly. They also have some metallic “pastels” that are gorgeous. Their mattes are awesome, too!
I’ve checked their website a few times the last couple days but everything I want just remains out of stock 🙁
I was surprised at how much was in stock when I placed my order (it was only last week), so hopefully, restocks are coming!
365 is one absolutely spectacular greenish-gold glittery duochrome eyeshadow. The swatches here do no justice to it. If you ever seen the green-gold from Natasha Denona Gold palette, well this one is several levels higher. It’s like the difference between mediocre and supreme. I also highly recommend Peacock, Unexpected and Borabora
Yes, also Peachy Keen has teal-blue reflects that are not captured here.
Please make sure you’re clicking each shade to view all the photos! Only one swatch is shown 🙂
Thanks for telling us this! I found some really surprising shades after clicking on them!
I ordered from them and already want more…so gorgeous! N-SANE…the swatch doesn’t do it justice at all. And I have a glittery shade called Ruelet, too, which is beautiful.
(Not to say that the swatches aren’t wonderful…they are! Just I was so amazed by them in person vs online…even on their website.)
IDK if it is just the photography but Prismatic looks downright radioactive! A lot of these look lovely, so i am excited for reviews.
I’m so glad you’ll be covering JD Glow. They are a brand I really want to try. I was very interested in the Galaxy Shadows, but the shades I wanted were sold out.
Unexpected was unexpectedly gorgeous haha, but so are a lot of these. I’m excited to see them on the lid and the illuminators are stirring too.
By the way, kept this out of my other comment because it may be a typo, but is it “peridot” or in fact “periodt”?
It is Periodt 🙂 It’s slang! There’s a photo of the label when you click on the product!
Man, I learned two new things. How’s that for bang for comment buck?
Excellent. At least on my device, the shadows are all so uniform in level of shimmer and basically intensity. This is rare, totally rare with brands. The depth and intensity are all over the place, usually by design, but still…. It looks as if these would be very easy to lay down and blend.
Thank you! I’ve been so interested in this brand but quality photos and reviews are hard to come by, so I look forward to yours! I placed an order the other day to finally dip my toe in the water and am pretty excited.
I love seeing swatches and reading reviews of indie brands. I’ve been getting bored with most of the mainstream brands, and it’s nice to support a smaller business.
I have all of the galaxy shadows from jd glow and absolutely ADORE them except for fairy acid. I’m wearing a matte red shadow with unexpected all over it today, and it is stunning.
I have all of the shadows that jd glow makes outside of the matte shadows. My favorites from this bunch are unexpected, prismatic, peachy keen, good gawd, 365, n-sane, opal, and Bora bora. I also have sin which is fabulous. I also have many of the highlighters and love them all. The one I don’t like is fairy acid.
These swatches look really good!
I am really interested in the metallon line!
The JD Glow eyeshadows you have been reviewing look fantastic, I especially love the blue shades. The sparkling peacock look you put together is absolutely gorgeous. I was disappointed to see how many shades aren’t on their website or are out of stock, but I’ll definitely be checking back in the future.
I really value your reviews and I rarely purchase without checking out Temptalia first. I have never purchased from Pat MacGrath or Natasha Denona, but I am curious how you feel the JD Glow eyeshadows compare to them overall.
Hey Stephanie!
They’re being rated on similar criteria (high pigmentation, wear well on their own, etc.), so an A for a JD Glow eyeshadow would be the same quality as an A for PMG or ND!
