Isamaya Industrial Colour Pigments Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Industrial Colour Pigments
Isamaya Industrial Colour Pigments Eyeshadow Palette ($115.00 for 0.61 oz.) has a lot of different finishes and textures, whether intentionally or not, and it was not the most user-friendly palette as a result. To some degree, I felt like the quality wasn’t there for all shades, though, and the lack of consistency between finishes did make it a palette that was harder to use, especially together. The majority of the more intense shimmers worked best with a fingertip or a dampened, flat synthetic brush and blended out with a fluffy brush afterward.
On the other hand, some of the effects were interesting, so perhaps someone who approaches it from a more artistry-like perspective, doesn’t mind using fingertips for application, and is looking for something that they can play around with may find it worthwhile. Part of me sees its potential for artistry, the other part of me just feels like there are issues in quality that can’t be overcome.

Formula Overview

The formula is described as "richly pigmented" that are "supremely blendable." I would best describe the eyeshadow formula as being for those who love makeup artistry because there wasn't a lot of consistency between shades--some applied better with fingertips, some were sheere (and at least with a few, that seemed more likely intentional, but there's no actual statement of such), and just gives me "play" vibes--which means better for someone who wants to play, enjoys different textures and effects, and/or doesn't mind taking more time to "learn" the application methods for the palette.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is described as "richly pigmented" that are "supremely blendable." I would best describe the eyeshadow formula as being for those who love makeup artistry because there wasn't a lot of consistency between shades--some applied better with fingertips, some were sheere (and at least with a few, that seemed more likely intentional, but there's no actual statement of such), and just gives me "play" vibes--which means better for someone who wants to play, enjoys different textures and effects, and/or doesn't mind taking more time to "learn" the application methods for the palette.
To some degree, I felt like the quality wasn't there for all shades, though, and the lack of consistency between finishes did make it a palette that was harder to use, especially together. The majority of the more intense shimmers worked best with a fingertip or a dampened, flat synthetic brush and blended out with a fluffy brush afterward.

Back when I was doing far more editorial looks, I would have been over the MOON for this. But now? With the beginning of sagging in my face and my getting up there in years, I’ll stick with my PML Mothership III or Midnight Sun to go THERE! Also, some of my favorite MAC LE e/s’s can itch that scratch, too!
You’re right on the age part, as I find it harder to enjoy deeper, darker smoky eyes. And since I just duped out Midnight Sun, I thank you for mentioning it as you’re right it’s in the vein of this scheme.
The color story and palette cover are so beautiful. It’s such a shame the quality is all over the place, especially at this price. Pass for me, but I might try to dupe with shadows from my collection.
This is a very tricky kind of palette – on the one hand I like the colour story with all of the green shades in it. On the other hand there are far too many black shades, but most importantly is the quality, or lack thereof, of the eyeshadows themselves. If the brand had stuck to soft shimmers and satins and improved the formulas, this palette would have been a delight and a welcome departure from all of the pink and orange themed palettes we have seen of late, I feel that the brand has tried too hard to be innovative with their formulas, without testing to see if they are user-friendly and it has been detrimental to what could have been a great eye palette.
Concur! Wrote my comment before reading yours and do agree!
I find this palette to be quite interesting in terms of nuance.. some really unique looking shadows that are just that bit different from their dupes. Whether or not this is something I would frequently use is another question, but I do find it quite attractive.
This is the best palette of 2022 for me!
I love the color story: unique and sophisticated, and I find the quality amazing! I get a smoothing effect on my lids, that I don’t achieve with other shimmer formulas, like Sidney Grace, for example.
I get refined looks that look fresh and youthful with this palette and I can decide to go more editorial, if I feel it! It has the experimental quality that has been lacking in recent Pat McGrath releases. It made me enthusiastic again after months of the same things everywhere!
Sad, as the color scheme fit the name and those who like grungy colors would really like this palette. I feel like a purple (some other blue-purple color) is missing and that having Diesel (which I really like though I have this color a few places in my collection) and Leather seems like over kill (though I can see they are not the same. In the end, at this price point, too many dupes and this rating, no way would I consider it. But, it’s color scheme I haven’t seen much and like. I think I try to dupe it all and then I’ll be happy for not considering it!
Motor and Whip look like amazingly complex one and done smoky eye options, which I don’t have exact dupes for, but so much of the rest is such garbage! Also there are essentially three black shades. Why? The shade with blue black undertone is not needed, but there is not a single matte taupe or medium brown shade to make a cohesive look. I don’t understand the thought behind these choices. It’s a fun looking novelty palette, but once you try wearing it a few times the novelty feeling will wear off quickly and will be replaced with annoyance and regret of the money poorly spent.
This is one of the palettes I’ve used multiple days in a row. I like that the textures are different, they are dry and that is one of the few shimmers I can wear alone without creasing quickly.
I use my fingers to apply shimmers so I can see how this isn’t appealing to those that only use brushes. It’s really an oily lid friendly palette.
Okay, if it’s good for oily lids, I may be more tempted…
I did a review of this palette on my Instagram. It is definitely a complex palette. I don’t necessarily agree with the ratings after playing with them for a week. If you use a natural fiber brush, you will have much better results and also your fingers. This palette IMO wasn’t designed or intended to have an immediate 0 to 100 color payoff but instead designed as pro artists have worked for years and that is to BUILD Up a look. It is easy to build up a look and there are a lot of complexities to these colors. for example, you can use either of the blacks OVER a shadow to deepen them with it overpowering it or you losing the color that is underneath. This palette with its textures and finishes is where I wish Pat McGrath had gone, but she didn’t. My only criticism is that so many colors in the same color family. It made me more of a fan and made me understand how she was tapped as Creative Director for Byredo and Burberry and consultant with YSL and Tom Ford Beauty. I’m looking forward to seeing what she does next.
Hi Margina,
I used natural brushes as well as my fingertips, as well as later tried with synthetic brushes.
Note, the brand says this, verbatim, “Featuring 14 richly-pigmented eyeshadow shades.”
I just spent the afternoon trying to dupe this palette and it was HARD! What a shame on the quality or difficulty of using the shadows plus the price! This would have been one worth purchasing for the unique color scheme. I’ve only four left to dupe, colors that I would have thought easy to dupe, but yet I’m close , but not close enough (meaning 80% or more away from what I see on the swatches and your description): Sweat, Flesh, Fetish and Belt. If anyone finds other dupes for these than what’s here, pleeeease update the database with your suggestion or share here. Thanks!
Hmmmm, the more I look at it, the more it makes me think of Huda Obsession series that looked like snakes and khaki.
Sorry the Jaguar one, ha!
Jane; Yes, I definitely see that one too, now that you mention it! Thank goodness, and thank you for reminding me, that I have the Jaguar palette!
Note that when I checked to see if they had any dupes, it really didn’t, but still it puts me in the mind of it.
It’s interesting, and I love two out of three blacks, Whip and Diesel, I also love the look and colour of Machine.
I’d not buy the palette though as I really don’t enjoy using my fingertips to apply eyeshadow, and I seem to prefer no brainer palettes so I don’t have to think of how to apply each and every shade, just use the brushes. Me being lazy, perhaps.
All that said, It is refreshing to see a palette with no pinks much as I do love to use pink eyeshadow, I’m personally tired of copper and gold though I guess this can be because I rarely use these colours as they often lean too warm.
A $100+ palette that can’t get pale skin-toned shimmers right is a big, hard no from me. If you have the audacity to price your products in the luxury tier, especially for a first release, the quality has to be there. When Pat McGrath launched the first three Motherships, there was no question that the products performed as advertised. The stan-y nature of some comments I have seen are also a big turnoff. All in all, I am not at all interested in seeing what’s next from this brand since it sounds more like a cult of personality thing rather than performance of the products.
If anyone wants to try to try a similar looking formula without the high price point, this is really reminding me of the Blk Opal palettes. These are also made in Italy, which was surprising for a drug store price point.
An F rating on a shade in a 100+ USD palette is inexcusable. That being said, thank you for reviewing this. The packaging is so gaudy and blase, but I love the color story. I now know I can safely pass.
I’m enjoying using this palette a lot! I don’t mind using my fingers and do so frequently when applying eye shadows. I was able to do quick sexy smokey eye looks and cute neutral leaning looks. Will be rocking this palette for the holidays!
The most expensive eyeshadow pallets I owned are from PMG and they are consistently one-swipe pigmented. I do understand the sentiment of wanting a more natural low-key look from lighter colors, but cannot really wish for a pallet full of not really pigmented dark colors with a high price tag. PMG might has too many gold and pink, but the price tags at least are mostly for the quality, not her namr alone. So I will stick to PMG with no doubt.
