Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Palette Swatches
Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Palette ($67.00 for 0.56 oz.) is a new, holiday palette release that went up for sale last week through the brand but launches today online (and in stores) at Sephora. It includes 18 eyeshadows across a mix of finishes. Unlike past 18-pan palette releases from the brand, this one is housed in a thicker, plastic component.
Note: One shade includes plastic glitter (I didn’t see any warning about the shade on the palette), Nebula, but the other shimmery shades are all finer sparkle/shimmer.
I would get a lot of use out of most of these shades, but I can dupe them. Pretty color scheme, but easy pass. (And I strongly dislike the packaging art.)
I agree about the packaging. I would probably cover the top with something else.
You are so awesome for posting this Christine. I’m actually feeling stress about the Big S sale and quibbling over every.single.item I’ve placed on my buy list. This palette in particular is giving me grief. The colour story is certainly excellent for my skintone, but the swatches do not have me as enthused as I was originally. I think I have many dupes and vortex look dicey with nebula and ultraviolet almost looking identical and those shimmer shades look splotchy (I can usually work around that), and truly not particularly unique. Mercury and Haze look awesome and I find Libra very pretty. I don’t think that’s enough enthusiasm to take the plunge even though 20% off.
I like the colors in this palette, but I can definitely dupe most of them. (I think I can find a lot of these shades in the Colourpop Little pony palette that I own)
I like the packaging, except the picture on the cover… For the price, its a pass for me personally.
Thank you for mentioning that Pony palette! You’re right, it does look similar and I already own it and never think to use it.
While I absolutely love the color story here (it’s so whimsical and ethereal!), I’m going to wait on it. Nebula has far finer, rounder PET in it, and probably much easier to remove at the end of the day, too. It looks similar in theme to ABH x Carli Bybel. Might be a theme for 2020.
On the fence about this palette. It looks pretty but I’m sure I similar colors already. I do love Huda’s eye shadows though. And love the look Christine did using it.
This reminds me of the Lorac brunch-themed palette that I’ve regretted not purchasing for years now. Gorgeous.
There is something aesthetically pleasing about the shades and arrangement of this palette. I could definitely see myself getting a lot of use out of it. I have a lot of dupes in my stash but it is nice to have them in one palette. Norvina products are iffy so I wouldn’t buy this without knowing how it is going to review so if I miss it for the sale then c’est la vie.
On first glance I wasn’t interested in this palette but your eye look is gorgeous! I’m surprised how much dimension you got in. Still, I’m not sure I could bring myself to drop nearly $70 on a palette…
Hot Mess doesn’t look as deep as I was hoping it would, Vortex doesn’t really either in the swatch but if it’s what you used in your outer V I think it looks deep enough for me. I think that’s the one thing this palette is lacking, depth. A deep brown would have really served this color scheme. It’s not that big a deal, it’s not like I don’t have plenty in other palettes and singles.
I’m so thankful for these swatches! The palette initially drew me in with that lovely green, Mercury. It’s lovely, but it’s suspiciously close to CP Antimatter…and the other colors I like I have duped many times over. The pastel mint and orange don’t speak to me at all. It looks adorable overall, but a palette like this ultimately does me no favors. It’s all light to mid depths, so I’d get frustrated really quickly at the lack of deeper tones. Oh well. At least it’s pretty to look at.
This palette looks beautiful! I would get a lot of use out if it, and I don’t have dupes for several of the shades. I might ask for it for Christmas…
Whilst this palette is not for me, there are some really gorgeous shades here. The swatches look pretty good too.
This palette really caught my eye. It’s prolly the green and purple together. I love that combo but I need to quit being drawn to green eye shadow it never looks too good on me with the exception of olive.
I have used the nude palette a lot..I love muted colors for everyday and also liked the desert one. Her price is a bit much and she certainly has some stand out pieces I use daily but something turns me off a bit on the brand but can’t put my finger on it.
Maybe the self promotion? I’ll be buying it tomorrow on sale.
Beautiful eye look Christine..as if I didn’t already want it!!
I really like the look of this palette and the color story . I think it would go great with some of my other palettes and shadows . But there are so many releases that I’m not sure which one’s I’ll pick up . Lovely eye look by the way.
Ok… I’m surprised I want this palette more now. It has shades that are similar to the NATASHA DENONA
Sunrise Eyeshadow Palette but the rest of the other shades in that palette that do not really interest me. I was also eyeing the Huda Light Nude palette and again there are similar families in this one as well…. 🙂
Pretty palette and definitely for my skin tone. $67 is wayyyyy too much for shades I mostly already own so it’s a pass for me.
I have to add a few comments about Huda Kattan herself. A couple of days ago she announced loudly on social media that her palette was SOLD OUT and was ‘celebrating’ and thanking her fans for ‘making it happen’. I checked sephora.com and indeed it was marked as sold out, I was really surprised since the palette is not anything earth-shattering or innovative plus it’s not great for darker skin tones. And now today the palette is magically back in stock at Sephora. We all know you can’t manufacture and distribute palettes that quickly…. it seems to me she’s pulling this stunt to take away attention from the multiple launches of other social media influencers that are currently happening (I did order the new Tati palette which is way more reasonable in price than this one) Anyway, Huda’s social media games and her overpriced makeup just don’t sit well with me.
The palette just launched yesterday at Sephora – do you think you saw coming soon because it wasn’t even for sale on Sephora until the 31st! It’s sold out on their ecomm site, but I would imagine that most of the stock they run goes to retailers.
What is with the names? The theme is mercury in retrograde but “hot mess” and “frazzled”? Huda ran out of ideas. (I understand the linkage of the shade names but… for shade names? How’d that go over for Too Faced?)
The formula changed again. Just pointing it out – no idea what it means in use.
It doesn’t match her previous 9-pan or 18-pan palettes. (The shimmer formulas vary (within this palette) which usually means more time spent which we all hope means better quality.)
