Hourglass Canvas, Cosmic, Horizon Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Glosses Review & Swatches
Canvas
Hourglass Canvas Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss ($30.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a medium, rosy pink with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation in one layer, which adhered decently but there was slight streaking along the edges (and if I pressed my lips together, I could see where I did so) with slight product that sank into my lip lines. It had a moderate shine and was comfortable to wear, and the settling didn’t worsen over time. The texture was lightweight, smooth, and creamy without being thick nor was it sticky. It stayed on well for four hours and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$30.00/0.2 oz. - $150.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "instant hydration and long-lasting volume" without the "sting of traditional lip plumpers." The texture is described as "silky, cushiony lip gloss ... without the sticky feel." Based on the brand's promotional swatches, the cream-based shades offer higher coverage while the sparkly/shimmery shades have less coverage, which was in line with what I experienced with the select shades I tried. There are also two more metallic shades, which seemed to be higher coverage per the brand's swatches as compared to the sparkly glosses that were more semi-sheer to medium.
The texture of the formula is lightweight, smooth, and cream-like with a non-sticky texture that wasn't too thick or too thin. Some shades applied evenly and smoothly, while a few shades showed lines along the edges or if I pressed my lips together, which seemed more likely with the cream finishes with the shimmery shades being more smoothing. They were very comfortable to wear and had solid wear at three to five hours with a hydrating formula. They have a larger, more curved doe-foot style applicator that is less flocked than the standard doe-foot applicator, which did hug the curve of my lips a bit better.
The formula had a sweet, minty scent (I thought I caught taste of mint occasionally but didn't feel confident that I did) and had a cooling sensation on my lips--definitely not "stinging," but it felt "minty fresh."

Cosmic
Hourglass Cosmic Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss ($30.00 for 0.2 oz.) is a light-medium pink with cool undertones and a moderate sparkle. It had sheer coverage but helped smooth out my lip lines, which gave my lips a smoother, plumper appearance overall. The shimmer dispersed well across my lips, and the more gel-cream consistency of the gloss made it so I couldn’t feel the shimmers/sparkles at all. The gloss lasted well for three hours and was moisturizing while worn.

It had semi-opaque color payoff that adhered fairly evenly on my lips, but it emphasized my lip lines and definitely settled into my deeper ones. The gloss had a smooth, lightly creamy texture that was comfortable to wear and non-sticky. It wore nicely for four hours and was hydrating while worn.

Really loving the look of Horizon! I do have Nars Rapture. However, based on my less than pleasant experiences with the Ulta exclusive Nars VLG 6-pack, I may have to try Rapture on top of my MAC Prep & Prime Lip just to see if that helps, even though I never use something in the lipgloss family over that product. In an effort to get back on track with what was supposed to be my “low-buy” year, I’ll try to make this work!
These are really expensive for the ratings, although they are pretty shades.
Meh … not starting any fires in me, though your description of Cosmic is exactly how I think good lip glosses should be described; the value of “sheer” is subjective, but the rest sounds like perfection.: “helped smooth out … lip lines … smoother, plumper appearance … shimmer dispersed well … couldn’t feel the shimmers/sparkles at all … moisturizing while worn.”
I just wish these brands could be super clear about their opacities… feel like there is definitely room for sheer and opaque and everything in-between… but also feel like one might prefer one over the other!
Agreed!
