Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, & Swatches (Part 2)
Guerlain Gracy Rouge G Lipstick
Here are the currently available deeper pinks and reds from the Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick ($51.00 for 0.12 oz.) range. The Rouge G formula is a long-wearing, moisturizing lipstick with a moderately creamy consistency that glides on easily and leaves a lightly glossy, luminous finish behind. Most shades are mostly opaque to fully opaque, though a few are less pigmented. I find the formula to be consistent overall, but there are a few that I like less than others. I reviewed the majority the range four or five years ago, and of course, any newly released shades since, but I thought it was time for an update for the shades still available today. 🙂

Gracy is described as a “vibrant pink.” It’s a medium pink with warm undertones–almost more of a coral-pink–with a soft, lightly luminous finish. It had nice color coverage that was pretty much opaque applied. The consistency was lightweight, while the formula was hydrating and lasted for five and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Grenade is described as a “pearly raspberry.” It’s a muted, medium-dark rosy pink with white pearl and a glossy sheen. It’s somewhere between coral, rose, and red, but the muted quality to the color makes it harder to pin to a single family. It had full color coverage and lasted for five hours on me. It was nicely hydrating, while the formula was creamy and glided on easily. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gala is described as a “true red.” It’s a brightened, medium red with subtle cool, pink undertones–about as close to neutral as you can get–with a glossy finish. The color lasted for six hours and left behind a stain. The formula was creamy, easily applied, and yielded full color coverage. I didn’t have any issues with feathering/bleeding. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Garconne is described as a “classic red.” It’s a slightly muted, medium-dark red with strong, blue undertones and a glossy finish. It had fully opaque color payoff in one stroke, and the consistency was soft and creamy, so it never tugged at the lips during application. The color wore well for over six hours and was hydrating the entire time. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding with this shade. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Greta is described as a “dark cherry red.” It’s a medium-dark red with subtle, cool undertones and a luminous finish. It had very rich, opaque color payoff that went on evenly and lasted for hours and hours (six and a half well, but there was a lot left even after eight hours). It was hydrating and comfortable to wear. I didn’t experience any feathering or bleeding with this shade. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Oh yay! Now I can kind of see the difference between Garconne and Gala. I have the former but I have been holding off on the latter because I wasn’t sure if they’re too similar.
Also, how pretty is Grenade? I liked how it looked on your original review that you posted a few years back, but it looks SO great here! Thank you always for all your hard work. <3
Yeah, Gilda is your most orange-red, Gala in the middle, Greta is your bluer red, and then Garconne is your darker, bluer red that isn’t quite as bright as the other three. Whether one needs so many reds… who knows… but their biggest variance is in tone.
Silly Christine, OF COURSE one needs that many reds. 😛
Is there ANY shade that doesn’t look amazing on you? Lol I want to get ever lippy you review SMH
Yellow-y ones 🙂 Pale pinks! Those look bad on me!
Christine these are amazing lipsticks but your eye makeup is outstanding! Your eyes look so intensely brown I love it! What eye liner are your wearing on your water line and eyeshadow if I can ask? I am amazed really lol
I used the coppery eyeshadow in the Guerlain palette damp as an eyeliner closer to the lash line, and then used the lighter gold underneath!
Thanks Christine!
Love your whole look for this series of photos, particularly your eye look. Gorgeous~
Thanks, Wendy! 🙂
Woo, these are making my heart flutter. Is Grenade anything like Hot Tahiti from MAC?
I don’t think I have that shade, unfortunately! From a really, really old post of swatches I did in-store (http://www.temptalia.com/mac-cosmetics-lipstick-swatches-on-skin), it seems like it might be.
Garconne is absolutely beautiful, definitely my fave! All the shades look really lovely on you (: x
Thanks, Madeleine!
Can you tell me if these lipsticks have a scent/fragrance? I’d have to buy them online & I havesensitivities to that sort of thing. Thanks!
Violet scent (floral)!
These are all stunning. Garconne is my favorite.
It is a gorgeous red!
Ugh, more of this Guerlain goodness please! <3 Gracy is so pretty!
It is such a fun shade!
Wow! I just looked through all sets of the Rouge G swatches and everyone looks fantastic on you! No wonder they are your favourites (I know you rate the formula highly too) They really do look stunning, in fact the whole look is beautiful with each lippie. Great job!! Now to pick which ones I need in my life…… hmmm, I may be here a while!
Thanks, Kate! 🙂
I fell in love with all of them, except Granade. Therefore, 4 x $51 = $224. I’m laughing, but my wallet is crying !!!
Poor wallet!
Hey, Christine, just to unwind a little… I noticed that you wrote GarÇonne correctly, with “Ç”. This letter (called “CEDILHA”) is very commom in our grammar/vocabulary here in Brazil, but it doesn’t exist in English grammar and vocabulary, and for this reason it isn’t printed on the English keyboard. In addition to ‘Control C Control V’, how do you write this “strange” letter? (LOL)
Hmm, in the post I didn’t write it using any specialized characters – the last time we used them, we had this major issue where they corrupted our posts 🙁 Had to go through 4,000 posts and fix all these extra symbols that showed up.
Oh, I am sorry, really sorry. My intention was give you joy, but the result was the opposite. For my fault, you remembered bad things. It is my earnest desire that this problem with the posts never happens again.
Oh, no, it is not a problem, lol! Only that that’s why I rarely do accents so if it is showing, my guess is it’s translating!
That’s a relief! I felt sad, but after your reply I will be able to sleep better. Thank you for everything!
!!! Obviously I have classic red lipsticks on the brain at the moment, but my favourite here might actually be Grenade, just because it comes over so unique! Also, a little sparkle never hurt anyone, right? 😉
Grenade is lovely for its muted quality – a bright red is easy to find, but some of those more muted shades are tough to find!
First of all, a huge round of applause and loads of gratitude for doing all these reviews. I’m a MASSIVE guerlain fan and looove their lipsticks. I must have a half dozen of the Rouge g’s including Grenade which is one of my fave’s and am already getting palpitations at the thought of looking at Part 3 of your swatches. Its no good I’ve gotta go look at the rest! Thanks so much Christine for your hard work.
My pleasure, Denise! Enjoy 🙂
How is each one better than the last! Garconne seems to light up your face a bit more than the rest I think.
Thanks, Erin!
I really appreciate you taking the time to do this! With such pricey product, as much as I love them, it’s always helpful to see as many swatches and comparisons as possible and it’s nice to have older but still available shades updated.
Interestingly, my eye was just drawn to Grenade among these swatches, which was my very first Rouge G ever. Still in love.
I figure if anything, it also gives me a chance to pull dupes for these shades for those who don’t want to pay the $51 price tag!
Thank you, Christine! I would love to try this formula some time — beautiful colors plus beautiful performance plus moisturization makes me think it would be worth the splurge once or twice, especially if the color is not too dupe-able. These shades are *soooo* my kind of lip colors. Grenade and Garconne are going on the wish list for sure! To my eye, Grenade’s dupes don’t look exact, and Garconne looks more blue than its dupes to me, which also happens to look good on me. There are several other colors in the line that are also calling to me — Gracy, Greta, and Girly are among them — but the price tag is holding me back!
Definitely give the formula a try first – you gotta love it at this price point for sure. Garconne and Grenade are both great shades to start with 🙂
GORGEOUS! Do you now own all of these, you lucky duck? 🙂
Yes 🙂 LOL, I have all of these for awhile, with the exception of Gina. It’s just time is never enough!
