Guerlain Rouge G Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, & Swatches (Part 1)
Guerlain Gabrielle Rouge G Lipstick
Guerlain Rouge G Lipstick ($51.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a long-wearing, moisturizing lipstick with a moderately creamy consistency that glides on easily and leaves a lightly glossy, luminous finish behind. Most shades are mostly opaque to fully opaque, though a few are less pigmented. I find the formula to be consistent overall, but there are a few that I like less than others. I reviewed the majority the range four or five years ago, and of course, any newly released shades since, but I thought it was time for an update for the shades still available today. I’ve been working on this for sometime now when time allows, so I’m SO excited to post finally! 🙂 I went through Guerlain’s list on their own website, and I also checked a few retailers’ websites for available shades, and here’s part one!
>> You can find Rouge Gs at Sephora, Nordstrom, Saks, Neiman Marcus <<

Gabrielle is described as a “pearly pale pink.” It’s a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a light golden champagne shimmer with a glossy, luminous finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage, but the lighter color paired with the creamier consistency makes this one slightly streaky applied. It wears well for four hours on me while being hydrating. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gemma is described as a “rosy mauve.” It’s a medium, rosy pink with subtle, cool undertones and a warmer, golden pearl. The finish is lightly glossy with a fair amount of shy. The consistency is lightweight, hydrating, and glides on easily but doesn’t settle into lip lines or look streaky on. It had mostly opaque color coverage and lasted for five hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Georgia is described as a “rosy pink.” It’s a medium, yellow-toned pink with warm undertones and a glossy sheen. It had full color coverage, while the formula was comfortable to wear, moisturizing, and lasted for five hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Geraldine is brightened, medium pink with cool undertones and a glossy finish. It had mostly opaque color coverage that lasted for five and a half hours. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Girly is described as a “bright coral pink.” It’s a bright, medium-dark coral-pink with warm, reddish undertones and a glossy finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that covered evenly and smoothly while wearing for six and a half hours on me. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gigi is fuchsia-red with cool undertones and a glossy finish. It had rich color payoff that covered well and lasted for six and a half hours, while it left a stain behind. It was nicely hydrating and comfortable to wear. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Gladys is medium-dark fuchsia-red with cool, pink undertones and lighter pink pearly shimmer. It had rich, full color coverage that went on beautifully with even, smooth color. It’s the kind of formula that makes lips look fuller and healthier than they really are. The color lasted six and a half hours on me and was hydrating while worn. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Thank you for doing this! One of these is on my shopping list, but I don’t think the colors on the Sephora website are as accurate as yours, so I hesitated to buy online.
Happy to help, Lisa!
Looks like Guerlain did a wonderful job with these! I rrrreally like Georgia.
It’s a great formula! 🙂
So excited to see updated reviews with the newer rating system! Thank you very much for going through these again. 🙂 I’m just now getting into Guerlain Rouge Gs, so I’m loving these reviews.
Retested to boot 🙂
This is very great review, thank you very much. I am a fan of Guerlain too and looking forward for the next part.
No problem, Kitima! 🙂
Wow. One day when there’s nothing on my list (haha, yeah right) I’m going to get Gladys. Thank you for these posts!
Haha! Well, at least a lot of them are permanent 🙂
Pretty and very wearable colors!
Very true!
Christine, so excited to see you redoing these swatches! Gemma is one of my favourite lipsticks of all time! It is so hard to get a slightly mauve pick lipstick. Most are too mauve and so too purple or too baby pink. I lost it at a restaurant so I might pick it up again!
Geraldine is a new one I think – I really love the look of the swatch!
I also have Girly, I must use it more often.
It is an interesting shade – there is just something about the way the base color and gold shimmer work together!
Yeah uh, thanks for putting at least 5 lipsticks on my wish list LOL
OK seriously, thanks for making so much effort in rephotographing the entire range! I can’t wait to see the rest of them. I have yet to be disappointed by a Rouge G (although admittedly Gabrielle is probably not my favorite ever)!
I’m hoping to go back and redo some of the more popular and/or unique LE/DC shades (Gigolo and Giulette come to mind) if I have time, but that’s not as much a priority since you know, no longer available – more for referencing for future dupes, though.
i didn’t know gigolo was dc! i’m glad i have it. i had garconne too, but somehow lost it! how one looses a huge, expensive rouge g in a fabulous color is beyond me:( admittedly, rouge g’s aren’t my favorite though because i find them hard to apply straight from the bullet, maybe its just the nature of the two i have/had. i have a light pink that was le that has no problem applying, but it doesn’t wear nicely on me.
I definitely couldn’t find Gigolo at the retailers I checked or Guerlain at least (it is possible it isn’t DC’d in other countries, though). Gigolo was a good shade, unfortunately! 🙁
Oh dear..im going to regret reading this post…my wallet is going to cry.my first n only rouge G was no 66Gracia…i love everything abt its formula except the weight of the bullet..its stylish but so heavy. Looking fwd to trying more shades..esp Gemma from this series.
LOL! And three more parts to go!
This post made me reflect on my fleeting attention span and how my permanent collection Rouge G’s have been getting no love. It hasn’t been intentional, but Givenchy Le Rouge and NARS Audacious formulas are on heavy rotation with me and have essentially taken over the spot previously occupied by Rouge G and even TF.
You are spoiled for choice, I see 😉 All good formulas. Do you prefer the Le Rouge/Audacious formulas or are they in closer reach? Finding a Rouge G is always annoying, since they make me feel blind as a bat with their tiny text.
I have to say the Audacious formula really truly works well for me with incredible lasting power. Since I have had no luck over the years with NARS lip products in general, this comes as a very welcome surprise. That being said, there is absolutely nothing to sniff at as far as the Guerlain formula goes and I’m a huge fan. I have to work at rotation of my stash..my biggest issue and your post reminded me of that fact. How the heck do you do it? A standout for Guerlain G for me would be this fall’s Rose Grenat with the limited packaging. It’s one of my favourite picks for the season. 😀
Honestly, for me, Guerlain Rouge G remains a big #1 in my book, so when I have the opportunity to wear whatever I want, it is often the formula I reach for. In the event that I re-wear, it’s more often what is closest and/or newest that I really liked!
But if we suspend reality, my best advice is to do a monthly rotation (depending on how many new things one acquires) and pull out a few go-to shades from fave formulas. Though I’ll wear coral in winter and red in spring, I know that I am also more apt to rock a berry or plum lip with cooler temps out there, so I’d select maybe my top 3-5 plums. Something like that – some way to mix old favorites with recent acquisitions.
I bought Gina late last week off your review and I love it. I didn’t have a red because I feel they look crazy on me. The orange in this red really works. I love it- and it’s quite moisturizing! I couldn’t believe I’d like something similiarly to Tom Ford lippies! I’m looking at Gabrielle or Georgia to be a pink/nude on me. Do you think Gabrielle is a bit more “pinky nude”?
Happy to hear you’re loving Gina, Faith! 🙂
Are you looking for like… a pink-beige/rosy brown or more like a light pink?
I think a Pink/Beige. I have several rosey brown ones- I wanted something lighter.
Gabrielle could definitely work. Georgia is less in the beige family to me, just a light pink. If you want “true pink” in that sense, go Georgia. Galiane is another one I’d recommend, but it might be a little browner for your liking.
Your eyeshadow look is so beautiful. I’m totally copying that tomorrow. I also think I’ll be tracking down Gemma lipstick, as a nicer version of NARS Catfight.
Thank you so much, Zainab! 🙂
Updated swatches? Yaaaaaaay~~ *throws confetti*
If only I could do it for all!
Not enough time in a day/swatching space is indeed a problem.
Gabrielle, Gemma and Georgia! All 3 gorgeous and so wearable! I will own a guerlain lipstick one day…I think Gamma will be #1!
Gemma is really cool, too – harder to dupe 🙂
Not a one isn’t gorgeous or gorgeous on you!
I still cringe at that price point but can’t deny how lovely they are!
And I remember when they were only $45!
Ha! Those were the days right?
Oh thank you! I love Guerlain swatch porn! I need to go through my collection and see which of these I still need to buy. Gladys and Gemma are gorgeous.
Sure thing! 🙂
Gemma looks so goof but $51?? That’s a lot!
The worst part about the formula is the price!
As a pale brunette, Gabrielle is a perfect MLBB shade for me. It does need to be reapplied once or twice during the workday, though.
Happy to hear you’re loving it, Em! 🙂
Thank you for posting this! I have been thinking about (finally) pulling the trigger and splurging on a Rouge G, and this is incredibly helpful.
What shades are you considering, Emi?
I love all of these. Fantastic pinks.
They do pink well! 🙂
Hi Christine,
Thanks a lot for the post. Like if you knew I was about to choose my first Rouge G!
I am considering getting something I would wear often, and knowing myself, it could be a lighter plum with cool or neutral undertones. Do you have any recommnedations? My skin tone is very light olive with a lot of yellow, but cool tones still fit me better, I find.
I will hugely appreciate your tip, thanks!
Maybe Gracia? Otherwise Gemma 🙂
Gracia speaks to me 🙂 I will seriously consider making the investment on some special occassion. Thanks, Christine!
Oh, dear. Those are pretty and expensive. What deadly combo. I would like to buy at least one for my mother but she eats a lot of Lipstick so I don’t know if it’s long wearing enough at that price.
Maybe a deeper shade if you were to go this formula, rather than a lighter one!
So, when I’ve finished flailing, and mopping up my keyboard from where I sprayed it with excited tea when I opened up Temptalia and saw all the lipsticks…
…i think i need all of these. :-O I can really see why one would specifically collect them, too. So many beautiful lipsticks make my heart happy 🙂
If pressed to choose one (the horror!), I would probably have to go for Gemma though.
…but I don’t wanna choose one… Where was that Lottery ticket again….? 😉
I do make it a (bad) habit to buy any future shades, just… because… I must.
These are gorgeous! I just wish they weren’t so far out of my price range… *sighs longingly*
Maybe one of the dupes will work for ya 🙂
I’m so happy you are updating the Rouge G’s. We all appreciate your dedication to your wonderful blog, and all of your hard work!
Gladys looks positively luscious! I’d love to sport a sexy shade like Gladys in a Rouge G, but I would get much more use out of a daily wear shade like Gemma, so that’s probably first on my wishlist. All of the pinks are pretty.
Looking forward to perusing the rest of these posts. Thank you 🙂
Gemma is a really fun shade – I like the contrast of warmer shimmer with the cooler base.
I like that too! I think that’s partly why I feel so drawn to it. It’s harder to find shades like that.
First off what an ambitious undertaking so thanks! Second of all, I hate they cost so much because I’d love to get 2/3 of this list and this is just the first part of 4. Being broke sucks!
I wish they weren’t so pricey (or they sold refills).
Oo, oh my! This is real porn! Please send me any extras! Hahaha.. Soooooo extraordinary….. Yum. Why reach for sonething everyday thst tears up your lips, right? La la la…. Thank you so much for your wonderful continuity in reviewing everything, always! Such a pleasure! You’re the best! These kind of reviews are the most helpful! Loving them all <3
Happy to share, Lotus 🙂
As far as I’m concerned Guerlain can do no wrong when it comes to lipstick. I have far too many of their lip products but I have no regrets! Still, with the new KissKiss release and these new reviews making me interested in other colours I’d previously passed on I think I have many more lipstick purchases ahead of me. 😛
They do know how to do a fantastic lipstick 😀
Gemma was my first Rouge G lipstick. I remember that I was quite a bit angry with myself for spending so much money. I thought something like: “How crazy! Don’t do that again, you fool!” Well, obviously it didn’t work. :/ Partly thanks to your great reviews I ended up buying eight more Rouge G’s. 😀 But they are so great and stunning!
Eight more!! 🙂 Very nice. Yeah, I tell myself stuff like “don’t do that again!”that all the time, too. It doesn’t usually work, LOL!
Which is your very favorite? Is it Gemma?
My all new favorite is Gladys. 🙂 It really makes my blue eyes pop. Gemma is gorgeous, of course. I hope it won’t be discontinued too soon (ideally never, which I know is unrealistic).
