Guerlain My First Lipstick (001) La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour
Guerlain My First Lipstick (001) La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour ($32.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a light, warm pink with subtle shimmer and shine. It is sheer, and it stayed sheer, regardless of applying one, two, or three layers, so it isn’t like the majority of the range (and given the name, it’s not a surprise, but unfortunately, brands don’t usually distinguish one-off shades that deviate from the formula description, so it’s being held to the same standards as the rest of the line). It lasted for a mere hour before needing reapplication. The formula was slightly hydrating after wearing it three times in a row. MAC Peach Blossom (P, $19.00) is more pigmented, cooler (85% similar). MAC Only You (LE, $19.00) is more pigmented, warmer (90% similar). Surratt Beauty Perfectionniste (P, $34.00) is darker, more pigmented (90% similar). MAC Nippon (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC I'm In (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Forbidden Pink (22) (P, $57.00) is darker, more pigmented, less glossy (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Marguerite (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Greta (LE, $36.00) is more shimmery, cooler (85% similar). Marc Jacobs Beauty Have We Met? (108) (P, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Wet 'n' Wild A Short Affair (P, $0.99) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Chanel Camelia Blanc (327) (LE, $40.00) is less shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC Hug Me (P, $19.00) is lighter, more pigmented, warmer (85% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Sophia (LE, $36.00) is warmer (85% similar). NARS Orgasm (P, $28.00) is less pigmented (85% similar). Guerlain Pinktie (002) La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour ($32.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a bright, medium pink with cool, blue undertones and a fine, pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color coverage after two layers, which applied fairly evenly but seemed to emphasize the texture of my lips, rather than soften it (which is what a lot of Guerlain’s lipsticks do!) as a result of the consistency being thinner and a little clingy. It wasn’t drying, but this shade didn’t feel hydrating to me either. The color lasted for two and a half hours. MAC Lustering (P, $19.00) is more pigmented, cooler (90% similar). MAC Pink Pearl Pop (P, $19.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Gucci Beauty Wife vs. Secretary (602) (P, $42.00) is less shimmery, less pigmented, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Mighty (116) (P, $37.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Juice Bar (LE, $7.00) is lighter (90% similar). Urban Decay Sheer Ladyflower (DC, $22.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Guerlain Black Perfecto (007) La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour ($32.00 for 0.09 oz.) is a muted, blackened plum with subtle, warm undertones and a fine, pink pearl sheen. It might appear deep and near-black in the tube, but it is more of a darkening shade on the lips. It had sheer coverage after two layers, and a third layer didn’t intensify or darken much more than two layers, so it’s more like My First Lipstick in that respect and less like the majority of the range. It wore well for two hours and was very lightly hydrating. Guerlain Mauve Gloves (068) (P, $32.00) is darker, more pigmented (85% similar). ColourPop Promenade (LE, $7.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Urban Decay Sheer Shame (DC, $18.00) is darker, more pigmented (85% similar). MAC Sweetie (P, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW |
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noire Lip Colour ($32.00 for 0.09 oz.) is supposed to be a “buildable, lightweight lipstick” with an “ultra-luminous” finish. They are deliberately scented to smell like La Petite Robe Noire, which is a sweet, fruity and floral fragrance–the scent is noticeable both in the tube and applied, though I do not notice it after about about an hour or so of wear (if you are sensitive to scent, I would consider trying these in person or purchasing with the ability to return). There was a somewhat soapy, sweet taste (it contains Stevioside, used as a sweetener) at times, particularly if I ate/drank with the lipstick on.
The coverage varied from semi-sheer to semi-opaque with a more stained-like appearance, as it wasn’t too slippery and had a natural sheen. Some of the shades run together, but they tend to look more varied once they are on the lips (and depending on the coloring of your natural lips, this may or may not be as apparent, particularly with pinker or redder lips). The sheerer nature of these makes it harder to know how they will look on against a mere swatch on the skin, and even from the tube-to-swatch comparison, they can look different.
They have a balm-like feel on the lips, and they tend to feel softer and melted as I applied them, but they weren’t too emollient or too thin or too thick. The formula wore between two and six hours on me with some of the richer, deeper shades lasted the longest, and it was lightly hydrating. As they’re a buildable formula (Guerlain describes it as one, two, and three-layer coverage), all swatches I did were using two layers. A couple of side notes: 1) the label is on the cap only, so if you take off multiple caps, it is possible to inadvertently put the wrong cap on the wrong shade, and 2) they can be less-than-ideal for storing, if you typically have yours vertical, as the flat-side has the label on it.

Even though Black Perfecto isn’t remotely black, it’s kind of pretty — of course, I have, and love, Sheer Shame 🙂
Pinktie actually reminds me of the first lipstick my mother bought for me, when I was about 13, I think — without my input, or even interest — I really had no interest in wearing pink lipstick at age 13 in 1969 — I think it was from Avon, and had the most awful perfume-y scent. I think that, and the fact that pale pink lipstick looks awful on me, while being the only color lipstick that high school aged girls wore at the time, turned me off lipstick for years. Eye shadow, mascara, nail polish — that was it for me, for years.
Isn’t it interesting how something like that can turn you away from lipstick? Glad you have since come around 😉
LOL, not really until I was in my mid-50s!
Black Perfecto is surprisingly pretty though it looks scary in the tube!
It’s a lot subtler than you’d think!
$32 (37 in Canada) for “My First Lipstick” – hell, a young girl would have to do a heck of a lot of babysitting to afford that one lipstick (and a not very good one at that!).
It is a little funny – someone would be very lucky to have Guerlain as their first lipstick (whatever the shade), but it’s unlikely the first for most!
I’m always amazed by how brands can make the color of the bullet so intense, then it swatches super sheer or clear
It’s like the neon gloss Chanel does that looks almost clear on!
I’m really shocked at how little color Black Perfecto leaves on the lips. I thought it would at least give a berry stain.
Same here!
Remember the children’s story ” The Emperor’s New Clothes”? These bring that tale to mind! Fancy, pricey LIP BALMS ala Bonnie Bell “first lipsticks”! ?
Some of them have a good opacity level, I think, but a few didn’t build up much at all!
Oh dear – an absolute fizz. The colours are average – nothing really special and the rating is poor. Lots of better and inexpensive options around for these colours.
Agreed!
I think My First Lipstick is a cute name, but seems really silly to apply to one in this line, from this brand!
I’m with you there!
Aw, shame about My First Lipstick, it looked so pretty and promising!
It’s a shame it’s so unlike the others!
I’m glad these aren’t so nice because I’ve loved all the others so far!
lol!
I just wanted to inform you that Black Perfecto is rather sheer because it is supposed to be worn upon an other of the la petite robe noire lipsticks to darken it 😉
Where is that written on retailers websites? I didn’t see a call out that certain shades differed from their 1, 2, 3-layer opacities 🙂
On the french Guerlain website, black perfecto is described as a top coat: http://www.guerlain.com/fr/fr-fr/maquillage/la-petite-robe-noire/la-petite-robe-noire-le-top-coat
And that’s how it is sold on the Guerlain counters 😉
Thanks for sharing! 🙂 Unfortunately, I can’t really read French that well, but I’ll try to translate it later today. I did double-check the U.S. site, and I don’t see it listed there as a top coat but maybe I’m blind and am missing it. Though I would imagine that while it can be used to darken shades (which makes sense), I don’t know why it would still have similar opacity – as in darkening more or less rather than only one level of coverage since it is the same formula.
