Guerlain #91, 92, 93 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors Reviews & Swatches
#91
Guerlain #91 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a slightly muted, medium red with subtle, cool undertones and fine, ruby red pearl paired with a naturally shiny finish. It had good pigmentation with a smooth, lightly creamy texture that had noticeable slip when being applied but it didn’t slide around when worn. The formula sat well on my lips and smoothed out my lip lines and did not settle into them over time. It wore well for five and a half hours and was nicely hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.12 oz. - $300.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" with a hydrating base that includes things like jojoba and mango butter as well as hyaluronic acid (and gugul resin) to "help to smooth and plum up lips." I would describe the formula as somewhere between semi-opaque and opaque, often buildable, with a luminous sheen that seems like there's very, very fine pearl but less distinctive shimmer (except for the shades that are actually shimmery).
I find that the magic of the formula is in its finish--it's shiny, luminous, and absolutely smoothing on the lips without compromising wear (four to six hours, sometimes longer). The formula is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. They have a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The updated shade range seems to have a stronger emphasis on mid-tones in coral and red and less beiges than before.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors have been updated but mostly with respect to packaging and the shade range, as the formula itself has not been changed (per the brand). The lipsticks are now available as refills for $32.00 each, and then one can pick from an assortment of cases ($15.00 each), though each refill comes with a small, plastic cap that keeps the refill from drying out while waiting to be sold. The refill cap seems like it would be sufficient to keep the lipstick long-term, but I can't say from experience. I have not tested each shade for wear, but the shades I have tested, initial swatches and applications, and the like make the formula seem the same as before.
The old Rouge G cases do not fit on the new refills as the case doesn't stay on without a magnet (it just slides right off). I don't yet have any of the cases as they weren't available to me to purchase yet, but I plan to pick one or two up merely to see how they feel (probably the Original, to see if there was any weight change, and then something new).
A big upside to the refillable packaging is that they're actually significantly less expensive buying them piecemeal than buying it all-in-one. The original Rouge Gs were last sold at $58.00 for 0.12 oz., and now, the all-in-one price is effectively $47.00 for 0.12 oz. -- that's a nearly a 19% reduction in price.

#92
Guerlain #92 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, peachy beige with warm undertones and a fine, pearly sheen. It had semi-sheer color coverage that applied fairly evenly, but there was a bit of product that crept into my deeper lip lines. The consistency was lightweight, lightly emollient but a little more slippery compared to other shades in the Rouge G. The color stayed on nicely for four hours and was moisturizing over time.

#93
Guerlain #93 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and fine, lighter orange and copper pearl paired with a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly in a fluid stroke, but it lacked some of the emollient quality that I expect of the Rouge G range and didn’t smooth out my lip lines as much as other shades have. The texture was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and was lightly creamy so it did not tug on my lips during application. This shade lasted well for five hours and was hydrating while worn.

I really love #93 for the fact that it has just enough “coolness” to it that even I could pull it off. However, very strangely, UD Wildfire is showing up as a dupe. I do have that shade. I suppose if I add a sparkly coppery-gold gloss, it really would dupe it!
I love you, #91, but I can’t justify buying anymore reds for awhile. 🙁
I really, really like the red. I have such a hard time wearing bold colors but I feel like the pearl in it would somehow make it more wearable for me.
#92 gave me a major flashback. Cut the sparkle a bit, and make it more opaque, and it’s what we wore in the 70s, when we felt too young to wear red l/s. Well, with that contemporary mind set, it would not be pink, if you were wearing red (brought up match-matchy, after all…), and the nudes/naturals had not hit yet. My fave was a dupe by Dior, called Tomorrow’s Beige. Not real sure when I started red, but have certainly never looked back. These are ok, but not up to Rouge G standards.
91 and 93 are really beautiful. Love the shades.
91 is lovely!
#91 is my absolute favorite color of red. I do like 92 also. Probably wouldn’t accept less than an A for this brand though.
Christine do you happen to know anything about when the new cases are launching for the holidays? I saw an ‘Electric Gold’ one available through Sephora but I’ve seen pictures of one that looks to be crystals embedded that I’ve not found any info about?
Sorry, I didn’t purchase any of the cases, and Guerlain doesn’t provide any info to me any more, otherwise I’d try to reach out on your behalf.
That’s ok, thanks for the reply! I’ll keep my eyes peeled on the retailers sites to see if it shows up.
