Guerlain #21, 22, 23 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors (2018) Reviews, Photos, Swatches
#21
Guerlain #21 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a bright, pinky-red with cool undertones and a cream finish. It was richly pigmented with a creamy, smooth consistency that glided across my lips easily. The texture was lightweight, thin without being clingy, and comfortable to wear. The color lasted well for almost six hours on me and was hydrating over time.

Formula Overview
$36.00/0.12 oz. - $300.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" with a hydrating base that includes things like jojoba and mango butter as well as hyaluronic acid (and gugul resin) to "help to smooth and plum up lips." I would describe the formula as somewhere between semi-opaque and opaque, often buildable, with a luminous sheen that seems like there's very, very fine pearl but less distinctive shimmer (except for the shades that are actually shimmery).
I find that the magic of the formula is in its finish--it's shiny, luminous, and absolutely smoothing on the lips without compromising wear (four to six hours, sometimes longer). The formula is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. They have a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The updated shade range seems to have a stronger emphasis on mid-tones in coral and red and less beiges than before.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors have been updated but mostly with respect to packaging and the shade range, as the formula itself has not been changed (per the brand). The lipsticks are now available as refills for $32.00 each, and then one can pick from an assortment of cases ($15.00 each), though each refill comes with a small, plastic cap that keeps the refill from drying out while waiting to be sold. The refill cap seems like it would be sufficient to keep the lipstick long-term, but I can't say from experience. I have not tested each shade for wear, but the shades I have tested, initial swatches and applications, and the like make the formula seem the same as before.
The old Rouge G cases do not fit on the new refills as the case doesn't stay on without a magnet (it just slides right off). I don't yet have any of the cases as they weren't available to me to purchase yet, but I plan to pick one or two up merely to see how they feel (probably the Original, to see if there was any weight change, and then something new).
A big upside to the refillable packaging is that they're actually significantly less expensive buying them piecemeal than buying it all-in-one. The original Rouge Gs were last sold at $58.00 for 0.12 oz., and now, the all-in-one price is effectively $47.00 for 0.12 oz. -- that's a nearly a 19% reduction in price.

Guerlain #22 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a soft, medium red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a lightly glossy, cream finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly and never tugged on my lips. The lipstick had a smooth, lightly emollient consistency that wasn’t too creamy nor too dense, so it managed to smooth out my lip lines while still adhering well to them. It wore well for five hours on me and was moisturizing while worn.

#23
Guerlain #23 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deepened, plummy red with warm undertones and a glossy finish. The texture had more slip to it than most of the Rouge G shades, though it wasn’t actually thick, heavy, or overly slippery in practice; it still adhered fairly well and certainly stayed out of lip lines for the most part despite not having full coverage in a single layer (often an area where glossy, deeper shades fail). The color applied evenly and lasted for five and a half hours on me, while the formula felt hydrating.

These all look stunning on you but I think #21 is especially spectacular! 😀
3 more gorgeous shades. I am waiting to get the two I ordered the other night. I did end up getting both 03 and 06, I think, Christine. They were both just so beautiful on you I couldn’t resist. I picked up the medium pink “faux” snake skin case. These are all just so beautiful. I like the idea of an interchangeable case so that it cuts down on packaging.
#23 is KILLING me. So gorgeous and rich! But it only earned an A-, which, considering that it is by Guerlain, I was hoping for a very solid A. Still may buy it next winter, though. *Maybe*
I bought 23, it’s a solid a+ for me! It is my very favorite so far out of the 5 I bought
#23 is one of the shades I had on my “maybe” list, but #21 might be better for my skin tone. Looking forward to seeing more shades. All three are beautiful and I’m glad they’re rating so high.
Love the 23 shade, really pretty. All of these are gorgeous.
Love the formulation, some of my favorite lipsticks. BUT, the gorgeous tube has oxidized – literally blotches of green rust. They are a few years old, so I don’t know that there is anything I can do. The lipsticks still seem fresh and I wear them, but this is really a disappointment. Has this happened to anyone else?
If they are discolored, then I would toss them.
I love both #21 and #22 – my kinds of red.
