Guerlain #02, 03, 06 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors (2018) Reviews, Photos, Swatches
#02
Guerlain #02 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium pink with strong, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied smoothly and evenly across my lips without tugging. The texture was lightweight, thin without being clingy, and lightly emollient so it felt comfortable to wear and had some shine, but it did not slide around while worn. There was a faint amount of product that settled into my deeper lip lines, though it wasn’t apparent from a normal viewing distance. The lipstick lasted well for five hours on me and was hydrating while worn.

Formula Overview
$33.00/0.12 oz. - $275.00 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "intense colour" with a hydrating base that includes things like jojoba and mango butter as well as hyaluronic acid (and gugul resin) to "help to smooth and plum up lips." I would describe the formula as somewhere between semi-opaque and opaque, often buildable, with a luminous sheen that seems like there's very, very fine pearl but less distinctive shimmer (except for the shades that are actually shimmery).
I find that the magic of the formula is in its finish--it's shiny, luminous, and absolutely smoothing on the lips without compromising wear (four to six hours, sometimes longer). The formula is very hydrating and comfortable to wear. They have a sweet, floral scent but no discernible taste to me. The updated shade range seems to have a stronger emphasis on mid-tones in coral and red and less beiges than before.
The Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Colors have been updated but mostly with respect to packaging and the shade range, as the formula itself has not been changed (per the brand). The lipsticks are now available as refills for $32.00 each, and then one can pick from an assortment of cases ($15.00 each), though each refill comes with a small, plastic cap that keeps the refill from drying out while waiting to be sold. The refill cap seems like it would be sufficient to keep the lipstick long-term, but I can't say from experience. I have not tested each shade for wear, but the shades I have tested, initial swatches and applications, and the like make the formula seem the same as before.
The old Rouge G cases do not fit on the new refills as the case doesn't stay on without a magnet (it just slides right off). I don't yet have any of the cases as they weren't available to me to purchase yet, but I plan to pick one or two up merely to see how they feel (probably the Original, to see if there was any weight change, and then something new).
A big upside to the refillable packaging is that they're actually significantly less expensive buying them piecemeal than buying it all-in-one. The original Rouge Gs were last sold at $58.00 for 0.12 oz., and now, the all-in-one price is effectively $47.00 for 0.12 oz. -- that's a nearly a 19% reduction in price.

Guerlain #03 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark, red-plum with warm undertones and a cream finish. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy with enough slip to glide on easily but not feel slippery when worn. It had opaque color payoff that went on evenly and smoothly without emphasizing my lip lines. It wore well for five hours and was nicely moisturizing over time.

Guerlain #06 Rouge G de Guerlain Lip Color (2018) ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium pink with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had good color payoff–just try of full coverage–with a lightly glossy finish that made my lips appear smoother and slightly plumper. The lipstick was lightweight, creamy without being heavy, and easy to work with across my lips. It stayed on well for five hours and was hydrating over time.

They are all beautiful; and, you wear them well, my dear. 🙂
#2 and #6 are calling my name. They go right on my list to check out in-store.
All three are beautiful! I’m going to wait so see all the reviews before I decide which one (or two) to get.
I like all three of these a lot. I am not sure if I can wear 06 as my natural lip color is pretty dark but it is an unusual shade and I really would like to see if it would work. They all seem very spring like to me and I don’t have a ton of spring colors. I tend to go more for fall/winter shades and don’t follow seasonal changes much, if at all. Still these look lovely.
My personal favorite is #06, because when I go over $30, I want a shade that I *know* I really love and that it is one I will wear to down to a nub! This one neatly falls into both descriptors.
Me deciding between # 6, 71 and 77. No. 6 might pull a bit too dark on me. Hm, decisions, decisions…
Same here
Oh these are so pretty on you Christine !
I swatched more of these today ( at Sephora 15% off)
and was so impressed with the finish . I love how Smooth my lips look with these and feel so hydrated .
I ended up with #22 but could have easily walked out with more.
Beautiful shades here – 03 is just divine.
Just received #77 and #41. Have already returned the latter. In the tube it looked it had a good amount of color, but on the lips it looked like I’d never applied it! Keeping #77 for a very subtle, pretty pink color, that works for warm months but it was described as a vibrant pink.
Rouge G and I go way, way back. New issues still have great quality, but lack color depth and I think the range isn’t varied enough. When Guerlain made us wait so many yrs., results should have been better.
Christine, I used your link to go pick up 03 and 06 on Sephora website. I am not recognizing the shades as corresponding to your shades. Shade 06 is described as “rose” which might describe the shade as you show it but shade 03 on Sephora says it is a “light rosewood” which isn’t the shade you are showing. Could there be a mix up? I know that Sephora’s pictures don’t always show an accurate color but don’t want to purchase the wrong shade. Thank you.
Hi Deborah,
Everything is labeled per the boxes that each one had. Guerlain shows the shade as a reddish-brown – definitely dark – http://www.selfridges.com/US/en/cat/guerlain-rouge-g-de-guerlain-lipstick_397-77002296-G042666/?previewAttribute=25
Based on pictures of what rosewood is, I wouldn’t say that “light rosewood” is inaccurate for #03.
Thank you, Christine. I maybe dealing with a monitor that doesn’t show a true color. As I looked again at your picture of 03 on your lips I don’t get any hint of a reddish brown. I think I am going to have to go see them in person when I go to Spokane next. I looked at Selfridges website that you linked and the color on the lips definitely looks like a reddish brown to me so I think it is my monitor. I will pick up the 06 and hold off on the 03. Thank you again.
Would the lipstick be safe if you didn’t buy the separate case? Would it dry up? Or is the case necessary?
My logic is the lipstick refill has to survive for however long in the cardboard box with the plastic cap to be sold to customers… since it’s not like they are made and sold within hours. I wouldn’t buy any caps if I wasn’t a blogger – as a blogger, I bought two to see what they look and feel like now, but that’s all.
Thank you!
