Give Me Glow Grunge Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Grunge
Give Me Glow Grunge 9-Pan Pressed Pigment Palette ($41.00 for 0.95 oz.) includes two shimmer shades and seven matte shades. It’s a deeper, darker color story that managed to be intense but still more muted in actual color choices. The darker mattes are not as blendable as would be most ideal, but they were workable and were a little more manageable over an eyeshadow primer compared to application over bare skin. All nine shades were very pigmented and lasted for around eight hours on me.

Bonehead
Bonehead is a light beige with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It appeared lighter and grayer when applied compared to how it appeared in the pan. The texture was soft, smooth, and more substantial, so it had a velvety quality to it which ensured it had opaque coverage that wasn’t prone to sheering out. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

The brand offers matte and foiled finish eyeshadows, though the descriptions are largely the same: "highly pigmented," "blendable," and "finely milled." The difference is with the foiled finish eyeshadows, the brand cautions to use less because they're that pigmented and going in with a heavier hand could cause flaking.
The matte eyeshadows are very pigmented with textures that ranged from soft, velvety, and blendable to soft, more substantial but not as silky or as finely-milled that had true-to-pan pigmentation but were not as blendable. The deeper shades tended to be a little harder to diffuse, especially along the edges, for a seamless blend. Ideally, one would use a mid-tone and lighter shade to soften the edge of a darker matte shade rather than counting on the matte to diffuse perfectly on its own.
The upside is that the deepest mattes are really intense--they're rich with lots of depth and have opaque, even coverage; it's just that edge can be harder to navigate. I preferred using smaller, more precise brushes, especially for areas like the deeper crease, to darken and then build up as necessary, and I'd use a lighter hand with shades that were harder to work with. They are also harder to dupe as many brands lack the intensity and depth, so some might be willing to trade-of blendability for intensity and uniqueness.
Some of the matte eyeshadows--often lighter and more mid-tone--were very blendable on their own along with having full coverage. There were a few of the darker and richer mattes that were slightly more effort to soften along the edges but not truly difficult. There was just some inconsistency in the ease of application with the matte finish. They tended to wear between eight and nine hours before fading noticeably.
They come in oversized pans (relative to average size) at 37mm, and they contain double the product (0.10 oz.) the average eyeshadow does (0.05 oz.).

90s is a darker gold with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which adhered well to my skin and blended out nicely along the edges. The texture felt lightly creamy without being too dense or too thick, so it sat well on my lid. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

The difference is with the foiled finish eyeshadows, the brand cautions to use less because they're that pigmented and going in with a heavier hand could cause flaking.
The foiled eyeshadows are incredibly pigmented with a very smooth, creamy consistency that was dense without being too stiff or too firmly-pressed into the pan. I didn't have any issues picking up product with a dry brush, and they also worked well with fingertips or a dampened brush an even more intense, metallic finish that was ultra-shiny.
I found this finish to be more consistent, too, and it was rare to run into major issues with the shades in this finish. There were a few with a touch of fallout or that might have creased a bit faster over time, but by and large, they hit all the high notes for those who love pigmented, metallic eyeshadows. They wore between eight and nine hours, often creasing more than fading on me.

Black Hole Sun is a deep black with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. The texture was slightly drier and more firmly-pressed in the pan compared to most of the brand’s matte shades.
This made it easier to build up if desired as I had better control over how much product I picked up, but it could have been more blendable. It lasted for eight hours before fading visibly.

An interesting palette where the colourful matte shades are complimented by the two neutral shimmery colours (which I liked). I thought that having both a deep brown and a black shade was redundant and perhaps a green shade would have added more variety to the palette.
Green, exactly. It’s not as if green wasn’t used in the ever present plaid flannel shirts back then. Green would have been on point. I like this one, but have mostly SG dupes of the shades I love, like Nirvana, Teenage Dirtbag 😆 and Bonehead. Green is never amiss!
I really like this color story. I won’t be buying it as there are still enough shades that I don’t care for mixed in – but still, this is really good. I like it.
Ah, the 90’s when my babies were little, I was a post-Punk Gothic Mama who even put her little ones in black and other dark colors, much to the chagrin of their Grandparents. So, you know I need this one, right? For nostalgia sake. And because I’m feeling these moody shades lately.
FYI: My friend Jennine and I crashed TRL on MTV and no one ever figured out that we were both older than “27 or older not allowed”! Fun days. 😘
I thought this palette was unfortunately discontinue :/ I regret a bit as it would have been perfect to try the brand with everyday colors. The black and the brown feel a bit alike but it makes sense when used as liner. A deep navy blue would have complement well also.
I wanted to comment this as well! On their website, you can’t find the palette anymore. It’s a bummer because this palette would have been versatile for everyday wear or other occasions. I was thinking about buying single eyeshadows instead because the quality of their eyeshadows does seem amazing. But that would have been more expensive than the palette, which is already at a good price range, in my opinion.
Yes, I went on their site to put this one in my cart for January, but it wasn’t there in any category. Major bummer! This was something I absolutely wanted to get because I used to wear shades like these back in the 90’s.
Makes me harken for the 90’s. I don’t do really deep shades like this anymore, but it’s a great looking palette and fitting of the theme.
One of the first Give Me Glow palettes that I bought. In fact, mine is in plain packaging, a simple white palette with only the brand name. The colors are right up my alley and glad to see it score well. Also was a grunge fan — and worked in the music industry — during that era.
I have this one. I thought the color story was unique.
