Fenty Beauty Penny4UThots Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter ($36.00 for 0.28 oz.) is a medium-dark, red-toned brown with subtle, warm undertones and big, chunks of flat glitter. This was some of the chunkiest glitter I’ve seen in a non-body-glitter kind of product. It looked like big flecks of dirt on my skin (see the second face photo, which has specks of copper on my cheek) and didn’t seem to reflect light at all–it wasn’t sparkling or glittery in photos nor in person. The texture was smooth to the touch, firmer but not stiff to work with, and the underlying powder applied evenly and blended out nicely. If one just wiped away the larger glitter chunks after applying, the rest of it sat well on my skin. The powder stayed on well for nine hours before fading, though some of the glitter traveled over time.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have a "creamy texture" with a "mega-reflective, foil-like finish" that can be used on the "face, eyes, collarbone [or] anywhere you crave a touch of light." The brand described them as "buildable, color-rich luminizers," which seems to indicate the finish is more buildable than the base (as they're touted as "color-rich" in other marketing pieces).
The majority of the shades have mostly opaque to opaque pigmentation and have a denser, firmer texture (not stiff, though) that lends itself to lighter-hand application for sheerer coverage if preferred. Most of the shades were pearly to metallic with slight, finer sparkle and didn't emphasize my skin's natural texture.
They lasted between eight and nine hours on me with minimal fading over time. As eyeshadows, they performed decently, but a couple of shades had larger flecks of sparkle, which seemed to look more obvious when I tried blending them out as an eyeshadow.

Those big chunks of flat glitter are really strange. They do nothing to enhance the product. Pretty shade, though, otherwise.
If I could get past the name, and I cannot, those huge chunks of glitter are a major turnoff. I don’t mind microglitter, but those flakes are way too large and make no sense.
It’s such an offensive name for a shade. And it’s too bad, because the color itself is beautiful.
I must be completely out of the loop, because I presumed the name was simply “internet slang/shorthand” for the word “thoughts”… Even when I Googled the word, it showed up as an accepted alternative, informal, somewhat archaic spelling for “thoughts”…
The name is slang for that ho over there (THOT). It was coined years ago. I personally don’t know folks who are offended or even care about the word ??♀️. Nice color but I can’t with the big chunks of glitter.

Yes, it came up in my search; however, so did the alternative definition. Given the fact there’s a phrase in the common vernacular, “penny for your thoughts”, it seems this was just a “hip” way of spelling that out, since the color resembles a penny…
Thot literally stands for “that hoe over there.” Fenty has been dropping the ball on names lately.
But “A penny for you that hoe over there(s)” makes zero sense. “A penny for your thoughts” with a heavy barbadian accent does.
I agree with your take on the name — it’s an obvious reference to “penny for your thoughts” and quite a stretch to work in the urban dictionary definition. I think people are trying too hard to find something to be offended about.
Interesting! I see it as a tongue-in-cheek pun of an old slang term, that she is using as a term of affection to a friend. My friends and I have referred to each other affectionately as “ho.” Sort of like, I don’t care what society calls me for going out and dressing like I want to dress? And because it’s a term and way of speaking that I wouldn’t employ around certain friends who might not be apart of the subculture that recognizes the term “thot”, I see Fenty using it here as a sign of intimacy — like, “you’re in the hip group that gets my playful teasing.”
That being said, I also HATE glitter in a cheek product, haha!
I’m just wondering, how does a product that is described as having big chunks of glitter that looks like dirt that you have to brush away qualify as an A-? I’m not being sarcastic, I hope I’m not coming across that way, I really don’t understand why this gets such a high grade with that description.
Well, that’s not the only purpose or ingredient in the product — it’s a great product except for a few stray bits of glitter, so there’s no reason why one part of the product would make it failure? It’s not a dominant part of the product that it interferes with the rest of the product’s application, usage, wear etc. The actual powder portion applied beautifully, blended out well, lasted nicely on my skin, etc. If it didn’t have the glitter, it would have been 10/10, 10/10, 10/10, 9.5/10, 5/5 – so the rating was impacted for the glitter not sitting as well on skin and not dispersing as well as it could have.
For the same reason why fallout from an eyeshadow doesn’t make it that eyeshadow an automatic failure – if you have to brush away fallout from an eyeshadow, that doesn’t mean the entire eyeshadow is terrible! That means there is fallout and you, as the buyer, have decide whether that’s something you care about, whether you’re willing to apply eyes before foundation, etc.
I wouldn’t fancy great chunks of brown glitter on my face – apart from being annoying, they don’t add value to the product.

I think this color is a bit too dark for my liking even though i am in the deeper end of the Fenty range. The name, i’m not sure is an issue? When Nars first was started, all of their names were racy. Orgasm, Super Orgasm, Deep Throat, (those are some that i can say without being out and out sensored and they have been naming things that for 30+ years) ect…. even Too Faced has some names that are downright sexual slang and they have been around for 20 years. So why are people taking offense with Fenty? I dont think Penny4uthots is half as bad as Deep Throat. If you dont know, Deep Throat was the the first huge porno movie in the 70’s. It actually was one of the first to rake in over $1,000,000. The idea that Nars had was that this represented female power which is a huge concept in the Nars brand. Trust me, i own almost everything that Nars has put out, except for the Orgasm line because it really is not great on woc as they say it is… but i’ve been a great supporter of Nars because of the quality and the vision of the line and not the shock value of the names. That and because I first learned of them the same way most if us 90 girls learned of them: they made Sarah Jessica Parkers favorite lip pot Chelsea Girls on season 1 of Sex and The City. I’m still pissed that they were discontinued in. 2010. So Nars can label anything whatever he wants because i know he is a visionary. But i’m not going to give him a pass and not give Riri one since what she named that wasnt offensive. If i was in the caring way, i would think wearing a blush named after a movie about oral sex should be more offensive than funny word play.
That’s just it, though. I refuse to give Nars or any other brand, including RiRi’s, a pass when it comes to naming products with sexually degrading or otherwise vulgar names. I don’t need to see a blush in my stash named Deep Throat (and a few others that are even worse), nor something that seems to insinuate that one’s fans/customers are “THOTS”. Orgasm is vulgar, but not in a way that degrades or insults women. There are brands with even worse names than these, however.
